Got the Sigma, love it! Btw, can you do more of this videos? Like Sigma 16mm/23mm/30mm vs Viltrox 13/23mm/33mm? What you think about my setup, as a beginner, in terms of lenses for aps-c: Tamron 17-70mm, Sigma 56mm and Viltrox 13mm (will receive it next week).
Definitely a fair comparison I’ve owned both and 💯 agree when it comes to being more versatile the sigma definitely wins with that smaller package and close focusing distance but portrait to portrait I definitely prefer the overall look of the viltrox 75mm
I like the comparison format. Great information seeing the side by side. Just picked up the Viltrox for the a6400 and now I’m watching daily to see when the 27mm 1.2 e mount hits the market. Amazing lens!
@@mohsin_sait Stabilization wasn’t really an issue. The image quality was pretty amazing but I ended up returning the lens after about a month because the 112.5mm equivalent on the a6400 was just too limiting. I may end up getting the 27mm. Seems like it would be more versatile.
My viltrox 75 lens was defective. It wouldn’t connect to my computer for a firmware update. I sent it back and I’ll try again down the road. I’d love a 70-200 2.8 equivalent to come out for Sony apsc.
Very well made review! I bought the Sigma 56mm just because the 75mm is a bit too tight for my taste. I'm also waiting for the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 for Sony E mount aps-c wich i find very interesting... nice video!
Thank you for the video. I actually own both. Bought the Sigma at a great price used and then figured I’d try the Viltrox since on full frame I shoot both 85mm and 135mm so I own both focal lengths as well. Used them on my A6700. Now, if you can get one compare the Sigma 23/1.4 DC DN Contemporary and the soon to be released Viltrox 27/1.2 which are two I’m keenly interested in as well. Wonder the ratings will be the same. Take care.
Great video, Curtis, thank you! I am fortunate enough to own both lenses, they're both phenominal. For me, it comes down to the background compression to make the best composition for any given shot. Just as an example - at 7:21 on your video, I prefer the Sigma just because it seems to tie the subject to the background better while still remaining beautiful, whereas the Viltrox seems to isolate the subject too much here for what I perceive as the intented message. This is just one example - the outcome could be opposite in another situation. As for weight between the two - when I'm in the thick of shooting moving subjects, I don't notice at all if a lens is heavy or light, my concentration is elsewhere. Will definitely keep both, can't pick a favorite.
Love your content, I was blown away by the Stunning Color grading at 6:42, am looking forward for a step by step editing tutorial in Lightroom for each of them, otherwise, keep it up ♥
While I would have thought I really didn't have an interest in either of these lenses I will say seeing the image comparisons is really cool. If that Viltrox was the price of the Sigma I would definitely consider getting one even if I don't really want that tight of a prime. For what I tend to shoot I just don't see myself to using that tight of primes but man some of those pics off the Viltrox were sweet especially with that background compression.
Sigma 30mm vs 23mm vs Viltrox 27mm would be a good little shootout, similar applications but seeing how they work in challenging scenarios would be good
Beautiful pointing out the advantages of both lenses. In my case, the Sigma also won, the weight and dimensions of this little thing are simply unrivaled. I would prefer the Viltrox 56mm Mark II F/1.4 version with the quality of the 75mm one, which would outperform the current Sigma 56 while maintaining similar dimensions and weight ;)
Thanks for the detailed comparison! Arrived at the same conclusion as you. For versatility and wider-range of use cases, I'll be grabbing the Sigma! I think the Viltrox can follow later on in life, when there's more discretionary income.
I currently own the sigma 18-50 f2.8. Would you be of the opinion that the 75mm viltrox might be a better purchase for someone in my position? The jump from 50 to 56mm seems quite insignificant in my opinion.
Great video. I have the Sigma 70-200 F2.8 on my a6700 but looking for something smaller. I love the build quality of the Sigma and after this comparison I am still stuck. I’m leaning towards the Sigma since the 56mm will give me a little more room to play with and will likely go with a 23mm at some point.

We need a Viltrox 16mm F1.2 to compete the Sigma and the Sony.
I had this lens and got fungus after 2 months, lens with weather shield but it gets moldy easily, bad focus, I really regret why I didn't choose sigma which is more popular and the autofocus is amazing
I recently bought Sony a6400 camera I’m confused with lenses ! I’m a beginner please can anyone suggest me a best all rounder lens for Sony a6400(both video and photo) I just want nice pictures and good videos.
. @CurtisPadley Yeah i know but the 85 f1.8 is cheaper than the Viltrox and it's native Sony , so i'm wondering if it outperforms the Viltrox on APSC. The f1.2 ons APSc is like an F2.2 on FF so i'm curious if this will have beter bokeh and sharpness and low light performance... it allway's better to get FF glass in case you ever want to upgrade to FF, if this fits the needs at that focal lenght.
@@nielsvangucht1410 As I mentioned it wouldn't be fair to compare an APS-C lens to a Fullframe lens. What I recommend is if you're buying a Fullframe camera. Purchase Fullframe lenses. Pairing a Fullframe camera with APS-C makes no sense from my point of view. Mainly becuase you'll have to go into a crop mode which means you won't be utilising the Fullframe sensor. Which in addition means you'll be getting less megapixels. At which point you might as well brought an APS-C camera. Hope that helps ✌️

This is definitely an interesting and legitimate comparison. Curtis’s replies assumes using an aps-c lens on FF body, obviously you’re describing the opposite scenario. There is no reason why one wouldn’t use FF glass on aps-c, but there are reasons for why you would.
It also depends on what body you use! If you are using a IBIS body (i e. A6500, a6600 or the a6700) then i guess the sigma 18-50mm f2.8.... if you use a non IBIS body camera (i e. a6000, a6100, a6300 or the a6400).. then i would go with the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 VC due to its built in stabilization.
Sigma IQ is much better IMO. It looks a lot more contrasty and gives the image more dimension. Viltox image looks flat and washed out. Noticed this from the very start of the video.

Im thinking of getting the a6700 with the viltrox and the sigma 18-50 but not sure yet....maybe another 1-2 months of research 🤣
Happy New Year, Curtis! Key points covered, although different focal lengths clouds comparison, IMO. Parallel review of particulars, with commentary about your versatility preferences would have been more even handed. Seldom do we see a similar vid compariing such basically different lenses on YT. BTW, now that you are approaching 50K subs, isn’t it time you brought in a model in place of yourself😊? Did you ever use that film Praktica SLR? Cheers!
Thanks mate! Happy New Year! 🎉 Whilst yes the focal lengths are a key differences, I think that's what opens up a topic worth exploring. Understanding which one would be best for a photographers or videographer individual use case. Hence why my conclusion was I prefer the look of the Viltrox but the versatility of the Sigma. Don't know any models at the current time in my local area plus I'm easier to work with! 😂 Thanks Paul 🤙🏻
@@CurtisPadley Appreciate the reply! Really love your vids! I’m a tech guy so it’s kinda a norm that things got outdated in a year or two. Now I’ve learned that it’s not the case for cameras/lenses😉 The other lens I’m using is the Sony kit lens 18-135 oss. Capable enough for my needs, so I’m mounting it almost all the time. Only when I need to shoot portraits or shoot under low light will I switched to the viltrox.
Quite easily if you watch the video again you’ll see how I compared the two lens. Plus the sigma is the cheaper you might have missed that, hope that helps! Have a good day! ✌️
@CurtisPadley I saw your review. The comparison of focal lengths with their respective aperture sizes is good, but what got me was the comparison of the more expensive lens from Viltrox to the cheaper lens from Sigma. Personally, for me, it makes more sense to compare the Viltrox 56mm and Sigma 56mm to see which one has better image quality (if we want to see which company's lens produces better quality images). Choosing the same focal length and aperture seems fair for both brands. But this review shows a different comparison, which is also good; no hate there! 👍🏼

Thanks Paul 🤙🏻
Viltrox lens cap on the sigma lens 😂😂
Just tapped into photography and bought the viltrox for portraits only.
Sigma is a fairly old lens so I didn’t really want to buy it😂
Best lens for Portraits! Sigma is old for sure but still a solid performer. The age shouldn't put anyone of buying it 🤙🏻
@@CurtisPadley Appreciate the reply! Really love your vids!
I’m a tech guy so it’s kinda a norm that things got outdated in a year or two. Now I’ve learned that it’s not the case for cameras/lenses😉
The other lens I’m using is the Sony kit lens 18-135 oss. Capable enough for my needs, so I’m mounting it almost all the time. Only when I need to shoot portraits or shoot under low light will I switched to the viltrox.
Man, how can you compare the expensive lens of Viltrox to the cheaper lens of Sigma? For the same focal length and aperture, Viltrox is way cheaper.
@@deepanshurai4863 Fair points you raise, this video really came about because people asked me to compare the two. As there were people unsure if they should buy a viltrox 75mm f1.2 or a sigma 56mm f1.4.
So I created this video to demonstrate the difference and how one might be better than the other. Looking at the pros and cons of both.
I hope that answers your question buddy! 😃✌️
❤
I prefer sigma😂
There is no competition between this lenses. They have a far different focal lenght.
I think this video outlines that there is aspects worth comparing. I hope this video helps guides people into seeing which primes lens would suit their needs best. Thank you for your comment
For portrait purpose, they are absolutely comparable, even with the focal length diff,
This is just blatantly untrue. Did you even watch the video?
