  • Food Banks Canada CEO Kirsten Beardsley said amid high levels of inflation, the charitable organization is seeing its "highest level of food bank use in Canadian history." She calls the current use of food banks "unsustainable."
Sharon Palmer, executive director of the Barrie, Ont., Food Bank, said her organization has seen its food donations maintain previous levels, but has fallen short in financial donations.
“Financial donations are also really important because that’s what we use to buy the perishable items like meat, milk, margarine, eggs and those are highly valued items for the clients,” Palmer said.

I used to donate to food banks all the time, on a very regular basis and it was something I was proud of. I no longer do since a lot of the people I see going to food banks are international students just looking for free hand outs. That is NOT who I want my donated food going to. The system is broken.

@@shauncameron8390 "Inequality is a natural consequence of freedom" - That's an evidence-free assumption on your part. Unless you have the scientific studies to back it up, do you?
Because the overwhelming evidence I've seen points to quite the opposite conclusion. Anthropologists have found that over 90% of human history we lived egalitarian, no money, markets or economic classes. That's a more 'natural' order of things if you take it by scale and how much of human history we lived in that orientation.
But if you want to fast forward to modern day, you'll find that the more unequal a society or region, the less freedom, the lower the health and wellness and safety of the people is, overall. USA, 'land of the free' has the least free people - the most people in prison, even more than China or Russia.
Countries that rank consistently high on health and happiness indexes include Denmark, Finland and Iceland - they are very free in many ways, great social support networks for free healthcare, education, quality public transportation, ecologically more friendly energy systems and neighbourhood design, more equal ratio of income between the rich and the poor - higher taxes, but that doesn't create awful happiness rankings, does it?
Capitalism is the Crisis, that's evident to anyone who has seriously looked at the data. What do you propose comes next after capitalism? Or do you plant to ride out capitalist economics to the bitter end, even if other viable alternatives present themselves?

I line up 2xs a month for a good hour or 2 and I can’t receive a single loaf of bread. It’s gotten so busy that there’s not enough to give out anymore. I’m grateful for what I receive but after an hour and a half to walk out with 5- 6 items that’s supposed to last 2 weeks just isn’t enough. I’m so fed up with Canada and BC as a whole. A lot of comments about rich people using food banks… driving up in high price cars… this is not fraud guys, this is not heeding God’s principles on managing your money.. Buying huge mansions and pricey vehicles then running into hard times ie loss of job , illness, … if you have pricey cars and homes, you should have savings for the “rainy days”… not take from the real poor.

70% of Canadians own their homes.... I'm reading in Russia that more than 50% of the population rents or lives with family, so it sounds like Putin is telling you you will rent and be happy.
