Kathy Rebuilds Hi Kathy, So sad about Caneel Bay. If you go to Hawks Nest and look over at Gibney Beach you will see where the house was. My husband and I are going back this year. Love St John!
Oppenheimer’s ashes were scattered in the bay around Carvel Rock, as were his wife’s. Beyond the fence toward the Gibney side of the beach are the Gibney cottages. Rentals. Charming. The real Gibney house is hidden, tucked away at the far end of Gibney Beach in the lush jungle of foliage. A very very old beautiful palatial house with verandas and a lawn and garden. Something you would never expect to see in there. After your eyes adjust from the bright light of the sun to the deep darkness of the shade you may be able to peer in and see it. Most people miss it. Hidden in plain sight. Eleanor Gibney is a lovely woman, keeping records of St John her whole life for the historical society. She is proactive for everything good going on there. Don’t mess with her privacy.Be respectful of the Gibney side of the beach. Oppenheimer’s daughter was Toni, not Tori.

(From the Bhagavad) It was called the Trinity Test and it took place in New Mexico. I wonder if somebody who is so smart can ever turn their minds off. Clearly that quote suggests he understood the consequences of the whole thing.
Donnas Pink Poodles Eight languages and an IQ of 195, wow! Yet, what I read about his life it seemed at times he was vexed by persons who treated him as a villain on one hand and a hero on the other. I don't believe he had a very easy life. I think he had periods of happy times and even joy, but from what I read his life was full of all means of distress. That's just my thoughts.
Sad, he never received a Noble Prize for his genius.
