Great to hear this man ..I first heard him play in Lisdoonvarna around 1960...he has that lovely sense of melody and a reasonable tempo which now seems to be rare...he plays a tune tunefully!
Yes your correct, as I passed comment a few weeks ago on a box player who been around from awhile and should've known better, I said he was showboating when he had no call to.🌏
The Wind That Shakes The Barley of Scottish origin was a great favourite of the great Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman who electrified audiences with his dazzling performances
Happy New Year from a very good friend from Ireland, County Limerick, in the 1950s's - Eileen - formerly of Ansonia, Connecticut. I watch you on youTube and listen to your music to this day. You never lost that touch! Best wishes for a glorious 2013!
@JDMacify Come on, we wanna hear bobby speak. He would have been happy just to belt out a few tunes. But the interviewer got him to say a few words before he played. I thought it was nice.
uh, that`s a 2 row irish button accordion. probably made in italy , where most quality accordions are made . some places call it a box , technically , it`s a diatonic accordion . also common but not as common as the b/c accordion is the c#/d accordion.[ for irish music ]
Bobby usually plays a B/C accordion (across the two rows), but this one is in D/D# (played along the straight row) which is what he played with the Kilfenora Ceili Band before he went off to America in the 1950s.
it's not a melodeon its an accordion but same thing they called it a 2 row melodeon then called it the accordion but its in B/C as are most irish accordions as thats the standard sometimes you get the odd one out but very rarely
D/D# is what it is, the system Bobby originally played before he went off to America, and before Paddy O'Brien showed everybody what could be done on a B/C when his three 78rpm discs were released in 1955. I've played on the very same D/D# grey Paolo that Bobby used with the Kilfenora in the early '50s, a mutual friend in Lisdoonvarna used to have it.
Fabelous player remember him playing on the radio when I was young we were all in love with his music
I'm listening again..I'm hooked on this music.Making a fruit cake and beating the sugar and butter along with the tune !
What a wonderful gentleman✅🇮🇪
