  • This catastrophic mile-wide EF5 carved a 132-mile path of death and devastation across northwest Alabama on the afternoon of April 27, 2011. The hardest hit areas included Hackleburg, Phil Campbell, Oak Grove, Mount Hope, Langtown, Tanner, and Capshaw. 72 people were killed by this tornado and hundreds were injured, making it the deadliest of the day and in Alabama state history. Countless homes and businesses would be completely destroyed or swept away, amounting to $1.29 billion in damages.

    Quick note: The tornado didn’t dissipate until it was a few miles into Tennessee near Huntland. Just wanted to say that.
