💥Power BI: Append Data From Multiple Sources To One Table 🗃

  • In this video, Matt showcases how to bring in two different data sources that contain similar data and append/combine them into one table. This is useful to the user so you don’t have to go to the original datasource and duplicate data to get what you need all in one table. Also, addressed is the scenario of what if I have different names for my columns or extra columns in one dataset compared to the other. Matt uses some play educational data, but hopefully you will see how to apply this to your business scenario.

Nice. Helpful and complete. Good pace and level of detail. I now have greater confidence that I can append files with different formats easily.

In a grad class and had to purchase the book that supposedly taught me this, after hours of trying you solved my issue in less than 10 minutes. THANK YOU!!! I wish you were my professor lol.

Great explanation on what happens with appending files having same and different column headers.
Thanks for explaining append and append as new query succinctly Matt.

Very useful. I was using an Excel spreadsheet as a data source and hit up against the 1 million row limit. Append appears to be a solution that will allow me to begin a new table that is linked to a new Excel file and then append it to the original and so not have to change the connections to my related visuals.

Good luck with maintain these excels. It's good solution for one time report. Better is agree and keep same format across all files and upload all files in one process in Dataflow/Query. And it's even better because you'll get 1 extra column with source file name. So you will know exact from what file came data you looking at.

Excellent explanation! I wish the cursor was more visible or attented-to. Otherwise, the presentation and the content is what I needed.

Did you ever create a video for appending files automatically from a folder? This sounds really cool! :)
    BTW I've liked and subscribed!

Thanks for the video. I have two identical datasets: one is a historical data and saved as a csv file and the other one is from an API which gets refreshed everyday. I have built all my dashboards based on the API. Now if I follow your steps and append the historical one with the API one, does the data that’s coming from API in the appended table still gets updated or it overwrites the historical one as well? I need to keep the historical data fixed and refresh the API data daily.

How can we append similar records from different Excel records into one before procedding to next step. e.g. we have an identical table but in several different workbook or worksheet but for different classess which is used by different teachers, how they can all be added for anylize into a one master table or worksheet/workbook?

can i do this with different data sources? for example Oracle and SQL Server?

    • @davida6146
      @davida6146 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm pretty sure you can, since I've used different data sources (different file types) and they work fine together... not sure exactly how different it would be for sources from two different RDBMS

By appending, we've lost the data of what class the student is in. Is there a way to keep that data without just adding another column of "teacher" before the append?

1 doubt :- what if after apending I only want to load the appended table and not the other tables. I tried deleting them after apending but it gives refrence error /. Can you please help ?

I have scrapped data into power Bi , It has been loaded in to 3 diff. tables named 2021, 2022, 2023 , now i want to append them into one single table having all the rows.
I used the append as a new query feature and gave the name of Master Data to the new table in power query editor.
now I want to load only the master data and not the other 3 tables into power bi , How can I do that ?
