I grew up in Norfolk (born in Portsmouth) off Ocean View and Bay View...and the number of times my parents and I crossed that bridge and tunnel, I lost count. What I always remember, though, is when you got to Hampton, coming eastbound on 64, you'd get hit with that unmistakable smell of salt water...and I knew I was home. :)
I was away from the Peninsula for a long time snd the first thing i did when i came back? I dtove the entire wsy around the 64s and finished by driving the HRBT at night.
I remember going through this tunnel a many a time back in the 60's. We would visit my grandparents from the outer banks and my grandfather would always give my sister and I a 50 cent piece and sometimes my father would borrow it from one of us sisters to pay the toll to get back to Hampton. I have such happy memories of this tunnel and will always cherish the memory Thank you for the trip back in time ❤
Typically, if you aren't doing at least 80mph (not kidding) on 64 from Williamsburg east, you will get ran over....and no one has ever done 55mph in the tunnel....ever. :)
Almost never make it through the tunnel traffic without having to piss midway through and having to exit off and go inside the tropical cafe off I-64 every damn time lmao. Then I have to wait through it again

New Bridge and New Tunnel On I-64.
Lived right there off Ocean View, beach house, and traveled the tunnel so many times. I do miss it and Norfolk
I have driven across this many times years ago in the early 80's when I was stationed in Norfolk.
Ain’t nothin to it, but to do it! 😃 I’m from Norfolk. Drove over the HRBT hundreds of times. 🍰

I get the feeling this is fake because of the lack of traffic.
No fake. You can watch the video 👍
@@maximumdr Sarcasm, it's rare that I experience that part of 64 without congestion.
7 months ago during covid time traffic was calm and I guess early morning and weekend
