And here I was watching the sketch and thinking how incredibly David S. Pumpinks looks like Tom Hanks.
Who is David Pumpkins? "Oddball David S. Fremin hosted a Halloween TV special from 1979-1986 titled "Spookjigs" that featured a strange array of absurdist drama, incoherent ghost storytelling, and surrealist magic tricks. David always included guest appearances of his two sons, David (junior), and Alexian towards the end of each show. On the ill-fated final show televised in on Halloween of 1986, when David asked for his sons to come on stage, he was alerted offstage that both his sons had been killed in a car accident on their way to the studio that evening. As the show was always filmed live, David insisted during a break that the program finish. He grabbed two plastic skeletons, placed them on either side of himself, and explained to the live audience the sudden death of his sons that very night. He spoke to the skeletons for the remainder of the show, to the audience's horror and bewilderment. During the final minutes of the show, a studio hand had fallen through a stair railing, severing her neck, though she survived the incident. The producer of the show died a week later in a car accident on the same road the sons were killed, and Rolling Stones reported other strange violent occurrences during the filming of the show or shortly after. David Fremin never filmed another show. He asked for the Spookjigs stage and his entire bizarre emporium to be dismantled and sold the next day. The show's entire physical assets were sold and accounted for, except the plastic skeletons. David claims he never took them home."

The first time you watch it, you ask "what the bleep is this?"
The second time you watch it you start to realize "there is literally no point to this sketch."
The third time you watch it you start to understand "there is no point to this sketch and that's the point."

If they are wise, SNL will no revisit this sketch. The enigma and strangeness of the entire scenario would be ruined if they went back to the. The joke lives and dies based on the fact that no one knows what's going on. Pumpkins is its own thing and should remain so.
