The race is not extinct, rather alive and thriving culturally.

The Palawa people ( Tasmanian Aboriginal People)are not extinct. They were almost totally decimated by British Colonisation. They are actively rebuilding their language, traditions, customs and practices after much has been lost from genocide, disease, forced adoption and government integration policies.

That man understands what it's like to be an archivist. It's not for the current generation to decide what future man will find of interest and use. So keep it safe, and make copies.

Wonder if the tapes still exist? They could transfer them to a modern digital medium.

Lest we forget that Brittain is the reason that these tribes are extinct, and their language almost dead.

Just to say technically Tasmanian Aboriginal people are not extinct, however most of the old nations (and their cultures) have due to genocide.
Also the audio quality is not good enough to make biased judgements.

The British Colonial power completely wiped out the indigenous people of Tasmania, which they failed to mention.

I'm not sure that the cylinders being in fragments and then being pieced back together helped with the sound quality alot. A great deal many artifacts have been accidentally or purposefully destroyed over the last 2 centuries. You should read 'The Last of the Tasmanians by John Bonwick written in 1870 about the Tasmanian genocide. It's held in record at multiple libraries across the world. When Raphael Lemkin was researching and formulating the concept of genocide after WWII, he used that book as a case study. It's pretty disturbing stuff to read. It's a 'forgotten' holocaust.

99 percent of all living species on this earth have gone extinct
Countless primitive tribes have gone extinct throughout history for many reasons
      It’s normal
