No i do not want my niche interest becoming known and then watered down and made uninteresting by the outside world, gatekeeping is necessary to keep any subculture interesting
The perks of using google to record the audio to automatically search it up 😂 yea it probably doesn’t get it right all the time but it’s a optional way to bypass the gatekeepers who refuse to share the slappers in music
I just don't get why gatekeeping is even necessary. Like, there were plenty of songs I've listened to that I've never heard before, and because those songs sound really good to my ears, when I ask for a song's name, all I get is some bullshit response.
Gatekeeping don’t make no sense to me. I’m the one that’s hyping up my favorite artists excessively. I’m the one that’s pestering my friends to listen 💀 TikTok may be cringe, but I cannot lie and say it ain’t extra engagement
thank u about the fans holding their faves back shi i will never understand that😭i promise your favorite rapper isnt mad bad bitches wanna twerk to his music
@@FRANK_AZAR It keeps out people who are only in the hobby to advance their political agenda, to be in the hobby as an excuse to smoke/drink/do whatever, theater kids, toxic idiots and people who simply don't belong in the hobby.
Living in California, I can see why people gatekeep food-everything that’s “popping” out here has a massive line all the time, which kind of sucks. And it brings the quality of the food down. I can’t tell you how many brunch spots out here routinely have like 1-2hr waits, just because they’re popping on TikTok. I don’t agree with doing it, but I kind of get it.
Dont gatekeep just remove yourself from the communities. I love opium artists music but the fanbase is so intolerable and corny interacting with any of them will have you losing brain cells
Lol, gatekeeping ain't gonna be around for long with the way AI is developing.😂😂 Take a picture of drop it in any good AI search engine and y'all find it
You answered ur own question when you said why people gatekeep. There is people who create waves and people who ride them. Gate keeping is essentially trying to create your own wave without anyone else riding it. I was having a good year getting my grades/money up so I decided to buy a nice pair of shoes. I bought some Givenchy sneakers for $675. I show them off to people but when they ask how much they cost I say “I don’t like to talk about it.” I say that because a.) to be funny b.) I don’t want people to think I’m dumb for paying 675 for a pair of shoes c.) I’m trying to gatekeep
It pains me that bape and supreme is associated with hypebeast. It hurts to the core. that’s something us skaters should have hate kept all of our skate brand to ourselves.
I don’t really care for the most part but if a song sounds good and I vibe with ya why gatekeep it? I’m saying to you that you have good taste but then discourage me to listen to it again.
Sounds more like spoonfeeding then gatekeeping if I might be honest. Spoonfeeding is to counter people asking the same question over and over again, people will answer your question but if the same question pops up again and again. People will just stop caring to give the answer, instead it's up to the person to find the answer. Look it like someone teaching you how to fish instead of giving you the fish, if you know how to get the information for the song or movie then you never will have the same problem. Also I am all in for gatekeeping, fuck the masses.
Gatekeeping is necessary. Everyone nowadays feels like they're entitled to join in on anything they want and be represented for quick dopamine shots without actually appreciating nor understanding what they're digesting. Nothing can be held to a higher standard, and nothing can be left sacred anymore. Once something gets popular, it quickly panders to the lowest common denominator, the new crowd, and turns to shit, churning out low effort slop.
That feels... Pessimistic? I don't see why people enjoying the stuff I obsess over at a surface level is crazy. I like some stuff at a surface level too. Just because I've read all 332 issues of the 1984 Transformers Marvel UK comic doesn't mean people who've only read 3 issues of the 2023 Skybound series are my mortal enemies, uh, as an example. The only really niche stuff I enjoy is Transformers, so maybe its just an exception, but as someone who's browsed its catalog front to back, I feel like it's only gotten better the more people that's been let in. Sometimes it feels a bit diluted, but I can always go to like the old Transmasters UK forum to talk to people with like, a deeper appreciation of the whole thing. Maybe if you could tell me about some fandoms that did get ruined because they didn't get gatekept enough, it would help illustrate the point to me? (I know a lot of people get sensitive about this stuff, though, so apologize if I *completely* missed your point lol feel free to correct me!)
You gatekeep to keep art with meaning from being commodified and meaningless. For some reason when things become mainstream they get worse and gimmicky.
