Hi! Do you recommend these mics for playing live with other instruments? Thanks for the video!

Hello. Nice video. I went with a rode nt1a mic which seems to be a bad decision hearing these setups. However can you recommend a mic position for recording the cello? Height and distance from the bridge would be great! Thank you.

What mic do you plan to use?

@@higherhz I currently have the Rode nt1a. I tried after watching your video 2 feet away same height with the bridge and thats the best i came up so far.

@@PanayiotisMavrokefalos Hmm, difficult to say, I think the best variant will be to play with it a little bit with the position, start from that point, and just try to move it higher and lower , closer and so on, and just check how it will go.

@@higherhz okay thanks for the input! What kind of distances do you use for your condenser mics?

@@PanayiotisMavrokefalos Usually it is 2 feet from the bridge, if you have a friend cellist, you can ask him to play, while you move the mic, to fins the sweet point ;)

I appreciate the effort. Just 3 questions. 1) In all the recordings you did, your cello has a nasal sound. Is it your cello or the mic? 2) Should not the mic help you to avoid that ? and 3) You mention a GOPRO MIC. Is it a better portion overall? Thanks for your help

The nasal sound comes from the cello, that is the sound you aim for but you wont have that sound with a 'beginner's' cello, whatever mic you record with. The C414 is a good choice and versatile with different polar pattern.

@@jeancelloroy6713 Thnaks for your response. Interestingly, I always thought that you should avoid that ‘nasal’ sound. As a professional cellist I’m always looking to get the most accurate cello sound, and that nasal sound, in my personal point of view, is far from the cello. Still, thanks for your suggestions. I will try the mic you suggested.

@@towavred If I knew beforehand that you were a professionnal, my answer would have been more modulated... Depends if you are 'Wispelvey' 'Isserlis' 'Gendron' or Stjepan Hauser. I am a cellist and own a recording studio. If you tell me what you want to do exactly, I can recommend the best microphone for the job.

One good mic (Neumann) and an assembly of bad ones. I hate to say it, because I’d hate spending the money on a pair of Neumanns.

C414 is a fantastic microphone especially for the price.
