best magic system (especially hexes), best weapon variety, more created builds than any soulsborne game, best covenants especially covenant of champions (higher difficulty level), every NG+ are different not the same thing over and over again, and best bow builds. there are more but the most important thing that DS2 have that the others don't have, DS2 is tried to do something different (this is very important) but sadly lots of soulsborne players didn't acept it. DS2 is not a perfect game but the devs introduced lots of great ideas in this game especially in pvp. I loved this game.
The slower animations, limited rolls and much more strict stamina management make this game's PVP the most skill intensive and rewarding of all the Souls games, IMO. The faster pace of DS3 and ER are fun in their own way, but I really miss the emphasis on stamina management and punishes that DS2 brought to the table.
I really miss the stamina aspect of the pvp, at a point you get so immersed that you can tell the options of your opponent from guessing how much stamina he has left, something that has been made entirely irrelevant in Elden Ring.
Well they are quicker games overall, the combat is faster paced, more reaction-oriented. Having a ds2 stamina bar in those games would have been a bad design. edit: like imagine beating Mohg with a ds2 stamina bar, after dodging his chain of attacks, you wouldn't have enough to run at him and hit. Or you would be able to just r1 him once then walk away in hope he doesn't attack you. I think it was needed to make boss battles more interesting. That being said stamina recovery is an interesting aspect, its an aspect exclusive to ds2.
@@kamehamehaDdragon Your point is kinda irrelevant because IF the stamina system would still be in place, the boss would obviously not have the same attack patterns. It worked in previous games without any drawbacks in interesting boss moves, so it could've been done again. Also, you can literally beat Mohg by not rolling once, just positioning yourself slightly behind him is enough.
@@trime1015 when you say previous games, you only mean ds2 right? Because every other game has different stamina and attack recovery, ds2 is the only one that has super slow after attack recovery.

@@user-228__ yeah, basically, but not gamebreaking compared with other ones in the souls games, like moveset swap of ds1 or the bow glitch of ds3. probably the worst one of ds2 is the "infinite" backstab bleed.
What makes Ds2 pvp so fun is how many ways there are for you to express your skill at it, theres so much tech in this game that it can challenge Ds1 but unlike Ds1 the tech is not mandatory otherwise you get chainstabbed to death hahahahahah those were good times... also this game has way more variety in terns of weapons moves and builds and the fashion is still the best one for armor matching, theres so much that can be said about it but ill just end it there...
The fact that back steps actually had iFrames really sold the PvP for me in this game. Not only was it stylish, but it was useful, whereas in all the other games, it pretty much only stylish
Genuinely there was a Dark Souls 2: 2. It's where I had a full interest in PvP (and could be considered decent by regular standards) due to how the engine worked.
Best pvp in the series. Much more thoughtful and considered. Plus you could invade anyone. Don't like being invaded? Burn an effigy at the cost of not being able to summon.
10 reasons DS2 has better PVP than the others. 1: It's not backstab centric like DS1. I have a friend who played like a thousand+ hours of just DS1's PVP and was REALLY good at it, like, "I'm going to humiliate this well known streamer/youtuber by accident" good, and at one point I got them to admit that "If you're doing something that isn't a backstab, setting up a backstab, or avoiding getting backstabbed, you shouldn't be doing it". 2: It doesn't have oneshot combos like DS3 and ER. 3: Stamina management is still a thing for people who don't invest heavily in it. 4: Weight gradually slows your character's movement and rolls down (I think in brackets of 10%, but it's been a while), meaning that you actually make trade offs for threading the needle before you're fatrolling, such as having a harder time chasing/escaping. 5: Up until ER, DS2 had the highest amount of build variety period. 6: DS2 has the best balance between the builds (you can make pretty much any weapon into a viable PVP or PVE weapon if you know how, bless Mundane). 7: Backsteps are actually useful (arguably too useful). 8: Best PVP covenants by a mile. Cosmetic rewards for having a good W/L record, access to 6(?) maps that are all very different (idk I haven't actually done the Blue Sentinels arenas), and Ratbros being absolute degenerates and pulling random people into THEIR worlds is an awesome reversal. Also the arenas were in the base game instead of being behind a DLC paywall like DS1, DS3, and almost certainly ER, so no fragmenting the playerbase through DLC access. 9: PVP is on by default and has to be turned off at a bonfire (as well as turning off for 30 minutes when the area's boss is beaten, and the timer only counts down while you're actively IN the area), as well as allowing solo invasions to happen to everyone by default (from BB onward invasions were tuned towards prioritizing people who have ally phantoms in the world, which is why ganksquads have been a problem in BB onward but DS2's never had anywhere NEAR as a much of an issue with it). Also PVP (and NPC invaders IIRC) still works in areas where you've beaten the bosses, which means people who like having invaders come into their world and mess with them aren't punished for progressing through the game (and also you don't lose out on drops from NPC invaders). 10: Poise is the most balanced its ever been. Actually useful and pretty intuitive without being absolutely degenerate like DS1 (and ER in some other ways but we'll see how patches address continue to address it). ER MIGHT end up in a better place than DS2 on the poise front, we'll see. Bonus: DS2 also does something smart where it gives you HP any time you raise a stat, and raising the dedicated HP stat means you just get even more HP on top of that. This means that it's almost impossible to be oneshot if you're in the level range you should be for a given area, even if you're not touching your HP stat at all, and it also means that people who want to get REALLY beefy can become proper tanks too.
Bonus bonus I just remembered. DS2 had parries on L2 even when you were 2handing a weapon (at least for a lot of weapons), which was great for mindgames.
Im still thinking to this day that dark souls 2 has better pvp than the other games The amount of stuff that you could do with skill was very high Gosh I missed this game so much
So they really gutted stamina management... strange decision. Tons of tricks in this game, reminds me of Tekken 5 DR in more ways than just graphics. Very fun fights and very nice build btw
PvE is really fun too! Saw "loads" (not THAT many, but alot for what i expected) of summon signs, and am now placing them myself and to my surprise i actually get summoned rather frequently (again, like twice an hour at the worst times, but still i didnt expect 2 people/hour beating bosses), especially the Loyce knights since alot of people farm the knight souls and the DLC areas meant to be co-op, like SmelterDemon. What they could've done, imo, is remove soul memory reqs for summoning, since that would boost the times you see summons/get summoned. Farming sunlight medals is a pain
I remember having a blast with this game when Scholar came out on Ps4. Bloodborne was my first real ouls experience and while that was fun in its own way I sorely wished it had a better PvP because it was just dead by the time scholar came out. But this was always super active and I made a lot of long time friends playing this. Scholar will always have a special place for out of the souls games, even with its spammy PvE and soul memory matchmaking.
the thing I kinda hated about ds2 "arenas" is that often you would run into players with massively higher levels than you and leads to being killed in 2-3 hits even if you got decent hp. Not sure what's the specific cap or range but i've ran into meta level players or 150 when i was 88-100 sl. I also didn't enjoy the backstep spam, not that fight to fight against.
Don't know if awful is the word I'd use. It's definitely on the weaker end, but it's unparryable 2-handed r1/2's and wide sweeps gives it a use alongside more capable weapons.
