FYI, one of our students used the pH pen without the dibber/probe and the tip membrane broke. The dibber should be used to make a well before inserting the pH pen to touch the bottom and get a reading. The tip is very fragile, not meant to be pushed into the soil.
Thank you, and nice soil! First time to see this tool in action. Just got one in the mail today. I had already bought the ph pen for nutrients, not knowing this one did soil and nutrients. I blew it. hopefully someone reads this before making the same mistake! BlueLab suggests you to calibrate 7.0 before 4.0. Could be the reason for your occasional error code.
Is the calibration fluid reusable if you clean the probe thouroughly? If so can you just dip directly in the bottles? Just wondering. Thank you! I’m sold!
I would not reuse the calibration fluid even if you clean the probe good. I would never stick the probe directly in the bottle either. You always want your fluid to be pure and uncontaminated. You’ll get many calibrations out of each bottle. Hope that helps and have fun!
Interesting, I have a Hanna instruments testing meter along with probe but the probe dried out and needs replacement, a new probe for my tester is $260... wondering if I should just replace it entirely/sell the tester itself. It was $600 for the one I bought years ago.
This is a good pen, but one year replacement for $200.00 and everyone's pen go's bad after 1 year You can also buy a cheap ph pen every month cheaper than bluelab
To my knowledge it doesnt expire. I calibrate before each use but I only use mine about twice a year. If I used it more often I would skip the calibration process. Hope that helps.
Just got my pen. I have a question right off the bat. When I remove the pointed cover, I have a glass tube that appears to be sealed. It has liquid inside the glass all around the probe. I was wondering if it comes new with a plug at the bottom that I am supposed to remove. If not, how does the probe read the soil outside the sealed glass?
There’s a sensor at the tip and it reads ph when you touch dirt. All you have to do is clean the tip gently and store properly and it will last a long time. Hope that helps
Mine doesn’t have a checkmark on the screen. It just goes back to the main screen with a cal number displayed on the upper line when it’s done. Maybe the newer models have checkmarks?
I don’t use mine that often so I like to recalibrate every time I use it which is about once per year. If you use it often I wouldn’t calibrate each time. Hooe that helps.
I’ve used a lot of ph testers and its the only one I’ve found that is actually NOT a piece of crap IMO. If you find one better let me know but for now this is the best I’ve found.

Thx for explaining, bought it allready and now I know how to use it
You’re welcome! Enjoy!
Those little meters cost a lot but are well worth the money. I don't want my plants to burn.
Agreed! They are well worth the money as they are very handy! Take care!
Great video, thank you. For calibration, Blue Lab recommends first cal to be in the pH 7.0 solution, followed by pH 4.0.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for taking the time to include us in your demo. I just purchased my BL PH Pen and looking forward to using it.
Great! Hope you enjoy!

You are correct! Always do 7 before 4! I got in a hurry and failed to get the sequence right. Great pen! Makes keeping up with Ph easy. Good luck!

@@TheHandyHunter Thank you! Happy Trails!!
Great idea. Have you compared it to lab testing?
I haven’t but that would be an interesting test! I may do that next time I send in for a full analysis.
A other solid one. Great info.
Thank you!
They are expensive, ypu do have to care for them. Blue lab reccomends you always calibrate to 7 first.
awesome video thanks so much.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for the video this is exactly what I was looking for.
You're welcome!

Ive been really happy with mine.

You have to store it properly to make the tip last. So far mine is still accurate.
Thanks for the info! This is what I need.
Glad it was helpful!
Does the calibration fluid expire? How often (or after how many tests/uses) do you calibrate the tester? Thanks.

Can I use that to test the chemicals in my pool? Lol. That's a nice set up. Gotta be a pain sending soil off to be tested.....
Don’t think it will give you a pH reading on your pool, but maybe??? LOL. Definitely a handy tool for food plot geeks 👍
Thank you for the video
Thanks for your video 🙏
Is it possible to use the pen to measure the pH of water, or is it only intended for soil?
This is only for solid’s but you could try it on liquids… not sure how good it would work.
great video
Thank you!

That last test actually failed, you should see a check next to Ph if complete.

@@TheHandyHunter you most definitely will get the ✔️ it's sensitive to sequence
7 first 4 last I promise you'll get it 🧑🌾💨✌️
Can you use it to test water also?
Since it is made for solids I would say no. They make specific ones for liquid too. Good luck!
When do have to calibrate to pH 4 or pH 7 ?

Most reviews on this shows it's an expensive piece of Crap.
