It's a minor thing, but I like how whenever you showcase a chess variant, you always demonstrate checkmate at the end specifically using some aspect of the chess variant's special rules being used to checkmate. In this video, you checkmate using the double knight, in the Chess Plus video, you checkmate using a combined queen/knight, in the Hostage Chess video, you checkmate by dropping in a hostage rook, in the Identity Theft Chess video, you checkmate by converting a castling rook, and so on. It's a very small detail, but I always liked it, and I'd imagine a not-insignificant amount of thought and creativity goes into thinking of situations you can create where you can utilize the variant's rules for an otherwise-impossible checkmate. Great work.

    Why Knights?

So that you can take twice the L.
But in seriousness if I had to take an uneducated guess, knights are the most annoying pieces to face when used right but this setup seems to give everyone a bit more of an edge except the knights due to the wraparound movement. Giving you 2x the knights and allowing you to combine them to quickly advance an attack seems to allow it to be a bit more versatile.

@@prohunter717 well that's nice only until you realize that it is completely broken... you can literary go anywhere with them and once you want to take anything you split them. it is basically a piece that forces you to have 2 DEFENDERS as a single piece. that means for one of your moves your opponent had to do 2 moves and it make the whole game really unbalanced in favor of white

@@tracexcze5408 The knights are still limited in their distance like the pawns and the king. Everyone else can take full advantage of the cylindrical nature of the board.

Some good points here. I would add, knights are also the weakest piece in terms of point value (GMs consider a bishop slightly better), so adding knights adds the least amount of material, but since the number of pawns and knights are doubled, a knight sacrifice to break open pawn formations becomes a more attractive tactic.

Its a wierd rule, but Im guessing it was not planned from the start, but they had to introduce that rule when they realized the magnets only match with different poles. So you cant merge all knights.
So even if you let them merge with all other knights its still will happen that they cant. you can just change place of two knights if it becomes a problem.
So yeah, they should make them different in some way to tell them apart.
Or they could make each half different in someway, a stallion and a mare or something. And allowing stallions matching mares with stallions only. Then it would add the tactic on wich of your knights you send where.

Chess already has a few situations where you need to remember stuff like this. For instance, you need to remember whether a king/rook has moved to know whether the player can castle. Or, when promoting a pawn, unless you have the right chess pieces lying around you need to use a placeholder object and remember what it is.
My point is that not much has changed here - novice players can come up with placeholder solutions (turning the knights one way vs the other way), while high level players will remember whether they want to or not.

Also, I dunno if you are not allowed to remove *en passant* from this variant.
You are not allowed to destroy the pieces, therefore they are always durable.
Also, you may not spin infinitely, even though there are magnets on the pieces, because everything might fell off.

Two sets of split knights overpowers the pieces and makes for confusing play (as others have pointed out, it's a real hassle to keep track of which splits belong to which whole). One split knight would be an interesting variation with perhaps a split bishop for balance. I would think this variation would become somewhat mooted by strategy that capitalizes on this over-power piece The cylindrical board would initially cause some distraction since you need to employ memory in order to not have to rotate constantly to see where one is. I suspect players would have a second flat board to reference.

if knights cant join the other knight of same color, this can get confusing.
like im sure its not that hard to keep track of, but it kinda a problem if you can come in to a game and have to normal knight but dont know if they can join each other.
So ether joing knights of same collor should be fine, or someting should clear sign of them being different halfs of different pieces

There's a version of chess that I think I saw on kickstarter or something like kickstarter where pieces can share squares kind of like the knights in this version. It looked really cool because the pieces kind of entwined if they were on the same square like the were embracing. I had thought the name of it was Love Chess, but that is apparently an erotic computer game.... Does anyone know what it is? I can't find it by googling.

my question is is in the medieval age chess wasn’t a game it was a tool disguised as a game to teach people strategy in military tactics and probably politics and how to play the great game of politics so how would third millennium chest teach people to fight battles or to strategize or think strategically either in a military sense or a political sense

It's just a unique idea to make a money. There's nothing about politics in the documents of manufacturer charter. Formally everything is legal. If the owner has plenty of money, machinery and can hire the people who would execute the work for money, he'll make something up.
