  • We checked out the 2022 NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center. The show was Aug 4-7, 2022. This is the biggest show on the NSRA schedule and has close to 10k vehicles in attendance. Needless to say, 4 days is not enough time to see it all. This is Part 5 of this series and this episode we continue with our look at the outdoor exhibit area including some of the parking areas that are used for certain awards. Always too much to see and not enough time but we got to see some really cool builds, nevertheless.
Still trying to get back to pre-pandemic attendance numbers but more people showed up than last year, so it is getting close but still no shortage of awesome builds to see. Weather was a little bit dicey this year and it did rain on several of the days, but it wasn't a complete rainout.
    Onto the cars!

I asked NSRA if they do any discounts for the senior members who have been with then since the 80's and they said NO. So I dropped my membership and no looking back.

I liked this event better when it was all pre-49. Those are real street rods! It's not that I don't like the newer stuff, it's that there are plenty of other places to showcase those vehicles. This used to be a celebration of a particular genre of vehicles. Oh well, thank God for the Frog Follies!

I understand how you feel, it all comes down to numbers for the show promoters (in this case NSRA). They shell out a great deal of money to put the show on at these bigger venues, so they open it up to get larger numbers. I think the other reason is also to attract younger people because the perception is that younger people are not as into the older cars.

@@CWooProductions I know, I have heard those arguments but the thing is the numbers are not any better than when it was all pre-49 (I am talking about the Nationals at Louisville, not regional events). In fact for a few years the numbers were lower. The NSRA made excuses like it was the economy, high gas prices, etc. when it was actually the fact that the 30 year rule pissed a lot of us off so we stayed away. There were T-shirts printed that said "Not Street Rodders Anymore". I remember attending the 1994 Nationals as a spectator in a friend's mini-van. Now we could enter it as a street rod😡!?!
