I was a ride operator in Frontierland from 1969 to 1973 and drove the mine train many times. Here is a little bit of humor that happened one cold winter's night. As I was coming out of the trestle that is shown in this clip, and again it was cold and very dark, one of the other operators had pulled one of the bear frames out of its storage location and was sitting in the tall elephant grass with the bear on top of him, screaming for help at the top of his lungs and pretend struggling with the malicious bear. I made no mention of it and continued to push the "spiel" button at the appropriate locations. When we returned, everyone exited and about ten minutes later security came rushing in our direction. They said that there had been a report of a wild animal attacking someone on the ride. They never found the wild animal and we kept our mouth's closed about what really happened, but we all had a good laugh.
+LiveFastDiePoor Let me know.. I am in the OC four days a week from North SD County. I have other stories about the Rafts, Keelboats, Mansion, Canoes, etc. Send a message.
+Michael Forrest I am in Arizona and disabled too and I can walk. little bit but I go there all the time and get on like 70 rides in that one day but some rides I rode more than once.
OMG that is funny! I would have been one of those people who thought it was real. Disneyland is such a fun place, but it does straddle that place in your mind - appearance and reality.
+adamthewoo Hey, I only found your channel earlier today actually and watched through quite a few of your videos, great work! After seeing a few I thought you guys have to collaborate, but seeing you here makes me wonder if you already have? If not, you guys have to asap because you both make amazing, informative and highly entertaining videos. Keep up the great work both of you!
+Acme Inc. I actually wrote this episode months and months before I left. The last main channel video I had any participation in was that ride through of Haunted Mansion Holiday.
+Max Tyler If you look up TheDailyWoo and justinscarred you'll find that they already do. Keep watch all the amazing videos they have. There is so much video goodness they bring us.
+Acme Inc. as Tyler stated its been some months cause we took quite a long time animating to make it accurate over at Utmost Studios... Sorry it took so long but glad it's finally out and everyone likes it... :-) From all of us at Utmost Studios...
Justin I just love these videos .....I was there during this time it really was magical.... It gone but not forgotten ...I will always remember the living desert 🏜️...
Great show, I loved it! When I was a child in the 1960's, Mine Train Through Natures Wonderland was on of my favorite attraction rides at Disneyland and I did and do like it better than Thunder Mountain Railroad! I wish they still had the ride! Not that Thunder Mountain was a bad ride, in fact it's a great ride! Maybe they should have both rides! I can't ride Thunder Mountain due to my Disability's any more but it is still a very cool ride! I have a video and 8mm film and a slideshow of my old pictures that I took on the Mine Train Through Natures Wonderland!
Thank You!... We are glad you like them... It's been a long time coming and we are happy to finally have it done for everyone... From all of us at Utmost Studios... :-)
Great job Justin and Utmost. After hearing about this video for such a long time, it's awesome see all the hard work that ya'll put into it, come together so well. Thanks everyone!
We are happy to hear that! Your Welcome... We aimed to get it sooner but it was a lot... lol We are happy to finally have it finished and glad you like it!...
WOW! My favorite Disneyland ride - worth the "E" ticket! Yeah - too bad about the limitations of film back then - even though Kodak was a Huge sponsor of Disneyland and "The Wonderful World of Color"! The Rainbow Caverns were indeed breathtaking. Thanks so much for re-kindling some very fond memories!
This is a very well-done video, informative and entertaining. You put a lot of work into re-creating the old Disneyland, and we appreciate it. Let's see more!
Always regretted missing out on experiencing the original Rainbow Ridge and the Mine Train/Rainbow Falls in Frontierland! I wasn't born until decades later. With a time machine, it's the first attraction I would visit from the original Disneyland!
Awesome job on this Justin and Utmost Studios! One thing you forgot to mention is that one of the geysers still exists at the Disneyland Resort. Its next to a waterfall in front of Frontier Tower at the Disneyland Hotel.
Great narrator...good job! Yeah I remember all that stuff from back in the 50's & 60's. I kinda felt sorry for all those mules walking around all day though.
Learning about the history of the mine train thru nature's wonderland is what eventually led me to your Randomland videos. So, you could say, I've been waiting almost 2 years for this video.
I rode this in 1972 and really liked it. It's too bad it didn't last, but understand the need to upgrade with a roller coaster. I'm glad to know there are some pieces left. Nice job of telling the story. Thanks!
Justin sure is!... He's very talented that's why we're glad to help him tell his stories and visualize the information he's giving with creating Animation for each episode that may need it... From all of us at Utmost Studios...
Of all the rides I am simply too young to have experienced, this is the one I regret missing the most. It seems like a ride Walt had a lot of love for, as well as being a ride that was really unique and engaging. To me, Disneyland is about the experience, and Walt wanted people to have the most genuine experiences possible... you can see little bits of that still woven into the park, but this ride seemed to be the penultimate expression of that want. (Epcot would have been the ultimate, IMO) Thank you for this video, Justin.
I want so badly to travel back in time if only to see Natures Wonderland! I'd take a bunch of pictures too for documenting, of course. All the while getting strange looks from those in the train with me. And no one believing me when I got back home! I have been secretly hoping the new Star Wars land uncovers some cool old remains of it! Although, I doubt they'd let us the public see any of it.
Hall of Presidents is at WDW ... however you are correct, the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln attraction (one of the 4 attractions introduced at the 1964 world's fair and then brought to Disneyland, and thankfully has been restored) DID used to step forward after standing during his address. Apparently this freaked too many people out, I recall seeing a woman run shrieking from the building like he was a zombie after her. I personally found this more impressive than the big deal in HoP, the stair climb, which was too obviously supported mostly by the staircase itself. Free-standing walking was way before its time in terms of robotics.
DeathlyPumpkin, take a look at my poor attempt at recreating the ride. (Rainbow Caverns was recreated from my memories of going through it.) th-cam.com/video/QoqhzzuIhI8/w-d-xo.html
Good stuff! And it was a pleasure finally meeting you that day, man! I also saw Sarah from Fresh Baked walking by the Haunted Mansion, but she seemed to be in a hurry.
FYI, we didn't solve all of our problems in the 70s by burying them, sometimes we had a big bonfire. At any rate, I remember the Mine Train fondly from my childhood but had only faint recollections of the details. Thanks for putting together such a nice reconstruction of the ride, things like the devil's paintpots and spinning rocks came rushing back to mind. It was a real treat to see them again.
It was our pleasure! We're only a couple guys at UtmostStudios and recreating the ride in 3D for Justin so he can have for his history lesson to be also visually compelling, and it was just in time before they took what's left of it out for Star Wars land.
Fine "recollection" there young buck ! Great fact miming too ! Been there , done that and remember those attractions vividly including the "balancing" rocks , the vivid hues of the geysers and rainbow falls .... the Organ soundtrack was massive with the highest treble and deepest bass notes . The Prairie Schooners and Pack Mules were good but could not compete , as those could not enter the Rainbow Caverns and it's coolness during the the hottest summer day ! As Disney does , remnants of those attractions have remained in remembrance of the bones of Disneyland .
Justin...all your videos are awesome, but this one is the AWESOMEST of all!! :) I love learning Disney history and this was fantastic!! Thanks, buddy...for once again, all your HARD WORK! :):)
Thought I had commented already!! Love love love this vid, probably my favorite on this channel so far :D Something about remnants from the past really get to me especially if it's Disneyland related of course.
Fantastic video gents - great job all round. Never having visited Disneyland when the mine train was open I always wondered what it was like and now I feel like I've ridden the old dusty trail myself!
Ahhhh! Please do more of these videos! I absolutely LOVE learning about the history of Disney's old attractions :) (like the people mover! I tell my friends about it all the time!) It's so nice to appreciate past attractions and the beauty of each one!
Another awesome video, Justin. I got so excited when I saw that this video had been uploaded, I love getting little doses of Disney from you. It was great to learn more about the parks history
Thanks for making this Video! I rode on the mules & the mine ride back in 1967. They were awesome back then! The Old West was still popular. We watched BONANZA every Sunday night. Little did I know that when I grew up we would own Horses, Mules, & a Stagecoach & do Rodeos & Living History events, like Wagon Trains, & Cowboy Action Shooting & Mt. Man Rendezvous. Still Love Our American Heritage, wish they would still get the kids in school excited about it, but it's all about the future now.
I've been looking forward to this video! I've always been fascinated with those old remnants from the Mine Train and often tried to imagine what the Rainbow Caverns looked like. I'm quite sad to be seeing a lot, if not all of those remnants going for Star Wars land. . . but now, I can't help but wonder what those construction guys are going to unearth when they start digging up the area of alleged buried animatronics. What a bizarre, twisted mess of metal, plastic and plaster that might be.
Well done, Justin! I've always been fascinated by his ride and the remnants of it that still linger in plain and not-so-plain sight, and I've always wanted to do a video like this -- I'm glad you beat me to it :) My hat is off to you, good sir.
Justin had an amazing idea for this and we were glad to make Animations as close to accurate as possible in the time given to help with the Visual aspect to really see what we're missing with the ride being gone... I know Justin Thanks You and We also Thank You from all of us at Utmost Studios...
I'm happy you were able to make this short documentary of the mine train( yes you had to see the rainbow caverns in person to appreciate it's epicness)before it is all taken down for the new starwars land. I'll have to make my way to Disneyland and and enjoy what's left of this ride before they close it off to the public for construction. then it's off to a Galaxy far far away!
I just saw this...and gotta say I was lucky enough to ride the mules yep it was great...did the whole park ...it was something to see ...it was truly amazing...
Hey this channel is awesome because I have only been to Disney World not to Disney land and now I am learning history of it thanks for the videos Justin
I've moved out of my birthplace of Southern California across the country to Maine just recently, and I've been missing Disneyland. Thanks for the videos Justin, they remind me of home and they're getting me through the New England Winter.
This is really fascinating. I didn't know about the Mine Train until today and this seems to be the most extensive video about it. Old Disneyland stuff is so interesting.
Every time I went to Disneyland, I always saw the boarded up tunnel. I'm not dumb even from that age but I looked at the tunnel and sorta lined things on the opposite side of the trail instantly realizing it was a train tunnel only boarded up. My mom said it was a place where employees stored stuff but I knew just from looking at it that it was 100% a train tunnel. I still remember that tunnel to this day and I remember the tracks that I say coming out of it.
I always wondered about that abandoned train and track on the island. Now I know. I once saw some of the Disneyland cats sleeping on that train. I love your videos, keep up the good work and never Change that intro. I love it.
Thank You!... We are glad you like it!... After all the time we had everyone wait to make sure it was the best... From all of us at Utmost Studios... :-)
THEremiXFACTOR yeah, I was just there in November, even the train is closed at the moment. you can see how big star wars land is going to be from the top of the parking garage.
THEremiXFACTOR a cast member told me that they are not only building Star Wars land, they are bringing back natures wonderland and they're building arrondale.
Sorry it took so long... It was due to the Animation... We were holding Justin up with it cause it takes a long time to get everything together from scratch... Really glad you enjoyed it!... It was a really fun challenge to make the ride... We love to help Justin add the icing to the cake by adding visuals to help him with his stories... It's all for you guys and again Glad you enjoyed it... :-)
Awesome job putting this together, the production value mirrors the massiveness and complexity of the NW attraction. Sadly, even the ranch is gonna go soon...hopefully those buttes will survive in a different time and galaxy.
when I was a kid this used to be my absolute most favorite attraction at Disneyland and now that they're picking apart Walt's legacy a piece at a time it really makes me sad to see what's happening to the old park my kids will say how come you don't like to go to Disneyland much anymore and I say because it's your Disneyland now guys its not mine anymore. I'm old enough and lucky enough to a scene a small world and the great moments with Mr Lincoln and the journey to the prehistoric times at the 1964 New York World's Fair before they came to disneyland. fortunately even though they can take away all those old attractions they can't take away my memories.
I already gave kudos to Justin on Twitter, but I had to swing by here and repeat myself so the Utmost guys know how much their work was appreciated. Fantastic video that really made me feel like I missed out on something special at Disneyland. (Although, I was 2 1/2 when it closed. I may have ridden it and can't remember. LOL.)
I always learn more from you.. love your fun facts and Disneyland history... I love learning about Disneyland.. I ready books but I enjoy watching your videos too...
Thanks for telling and showing all of this information about this old ride. I remember as a little girl walking around tom sawyer island with my mom and noticing the old engine across the river and wondering what it was. As I recall, we thought it looked like it might have been part of an old ride that might have crashed. Now we know the real answer.
Well it seems like we got off track here (pun intended) with all of the fol'derol about Home Dawwg and his anti-aging remarks. The REAL point of this comment section should be to applaud LiveFastDiePoor for giving such an outstanding performance whilst filling our heads with DISNEYA (you know...Disney Trivia). I appreciate your efforts and the chance to re-live memories long hidden. I also think you did a great job on the history of the motorboat cruise. Everybody should watch it, if they haven't already. Very informative and, oh yes, entertaining as well. Keep up the excellent work.
I love learning about all the abandoned remnants of old Disneyland. The 3D bits were also really cool.
Agreed

+LiveFastDiePoor Let me know.. I am in the OC four days a week from North SD County. I have other stories about the Rafts, Keelboats, Mansion, Canoes, etc. Send a message.
The fact that you were super calm should have been a HUGE hint that it wasn't an actual bear attack. XD
+Michael Forrest I am in Arizona and disabled too and I can walk. little bit but I go
there all the time and get on like 70 rides in that one day but some rides I rode more than once.
OMG that is funny! I would have been one of those people who thought it was real. Disneyland is such a fun place, but it does straddle that place in your mind - appearance and reality.

They should build another Disneyland where all the old attractions and rides can be found.
Omg that would be amazing lol.
"Forgottenland"
YES. Make this happen!
Someone is making a VR game about old rides about Disney and other parks!
Christian Kriegl you mean defunctland
Great show, I loved it!

Thank You!... We are glad you like them... It's been a long time coming and we are happy to finally have it done for everyone... From all of us at Utmost Studios... :-)
+Aaron Moore are those fish really original?
This was well-worth the wait, Justin and Utmost Studios.
The history is fantastic. The animation is impressive.
We are glad you like it cause we enjoy the animation challenge... :-)

I would roam Disney land taking videos of the old animontronics and robotics
and get a view of the older hall of presidents animontronics which I hear actually walked around on stage
Madscientist Your my kinda people Madscientist. :)

Really , really cool . Good job Justin & crew . 👍🏼
I really miss the mine train. I have vague memories riding the pack mules as a small kid.
Fine "recollection" there young buck ! Great fact miming too !
Been there , done that and remember those attractions vividly including the "balancing" rocks , the vivid hues of the geysers and rainbow falls .... the Organ soundtrack was massive with the highest treble and deepest bass notes . I think this is one of your best videos you have done! Well done!
Great voice. Loved these slow rides, such as the peoplemover, storyboats, and submarines. Thanks for the videos!!! 🚂🚂🚂
woww i see why this took so long to work on, that animation of the ride is phenomenal!! top notch stuff, dude. love it!

I remember that part of Disneyland very well and have always missed it.
Thanks for posting this awesome vid dude!
AMAZING! Best Randomland yet!! Really wish they still had the Rainbow Caverns, they seem really cool
I'm really impressed by how far your videos have along in just a few years! I could see this as part of a classic Disney Channel special!
Well done, Justin! I've always been fascinated by his ride and the remnants of it that still linger in plain and not-so-plain sight, and I've always wanted to do a video like this -- I'm glad you beat me to it :) My hat is off to you, good sir.

Why do I feel like this guy is definitely capable of an AWESOME Spongebob impression? Awesome video!
Great video Justin! love learning about disneyland History!
Anyone else in 2019? This video needs to be favored by the algorithm again.
I remember the mine train ride and was so scared entering the teeter rocks (I was 5 years old). Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
I saw the original Mine Train and Rainbow Caverns, and I loved it and the pack mules were cool too.
Awesome video! Keep up the great work! I love learning Disneyland history like this!
This looks like it was amazing back then. I wish I could've seen them then... Disney always has to take away worthy attractions... :c
Disney or Corperate Disney?
NyuuMikuru1 corprorate of course.
J
P9u
Man that was really good.
It's so interesting to see the bits and pieces left behind. All these guests walked by and have no idea!
This video is AWESOME! I'm a vintage Disneyland-o-phile, thanks so much for your videos! 😊💕
Great video. Love the animation. This really helps put the Star Wars Land expansion into perspective. Thank you!
I always wondered about that abandoned train and track on the island. Now I know. I once saw some of the Disneyland cats sleeping on that train. I love your videos, keep up the good work and never Change that intro. I love it.
Best I've ever seen on this topic. So good I'll have to watch it again.
I like this production! You spent time on this -built to scale and painted!
Wow, that was amazing! Well worth the wait. Those 3D animations were incredible!!
One of my most favourite videos yet! I never knew about this attraction before and The animations were really awesome. Good job everyone! :)
I love the way he clenches his right hand in the video. uuugh I have such a huge crush on this guy!!! I don't know why! LOL
I love your more history-oriented videos! This was awesome :)
This video was worth the wait, it was so good. Great job @utmoststudios!
Thank You!... We are glad you like it!... After all the time we had everyone wait to make sure it was the best... From all of us at Utmost Studios... :-)
great job on another awesome Randomland!!
Most of the stuff has been removed now because of the construction of Star Wars Land.
what?
Kyle Chang Walt Disney is rolling over in his grave as we speak
yeah all the ranch area has gone hasn't it? I love Star Wars but it's a shame
This was amazing! great work :)
Thank you for making the video it bring back a lot of memories. I do like the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad a lot.
Solid! My favorite history and area in Disneyland.
This was a very Interesting video. Thanks Justin!
Wow! Fantastic video Justin, I have been waiting for this ride to be in a video for a while. Those 3D scenes were top notch.
very good video very interesting thanks for making it keep up the good work
Another amazing video. You and Adam the Woo are my favorites. You guys should do another collaboration video. great vid, keep them coming.
great video! well done Justin :)
That was a really fun 10 minutes of history! :D
Awesome video, subscribed. the more Disney lore I see the more I need to s ee!
LOL.)
Thank You Sir we are really glad you like it... From all of us at Utmost Studios... :-)
Best one yet on Disney history man. Good job!
Amazing video! I always wanted to know more about that area. :)
I remember those rides! Thanks for the memories!
Iv'e been waiting for this video for a long time, thanks for making it!
Keep up the excellent work.
this was amazing, love all the animation that was put in.
Thank You!... We're glad you like it... :-) from all of us at Utmost Studios
