Fun fact: I was a camera operator on this MV. This MV was the first project in Korea to use the MoVI, which is the first hand-held gimbal camera stablizing system ever developed. We built two sets and using the MoVI, we shot the entire MV in one shot in both sets. The rest is editing and a crane for the overhead shot. The EXO guys were totally professional and even though they were tired shooting long hours take after take, they never complained and always gave their best performace for each take. Great guys! Thanks for reacting to this...brings back memories. haha

Amazingly, the way this MV was shot is ridiculously astounding and seems to have stood the test of time. I'm pretty stoked but not surprised that EXO was part of the beginning of MoVi filming in So. Korea. A lot of the MVs today(conceptually) seem to be copies of MVs from past years and often lacks originality. EXO's concept of EXO planet etc. and the way they were able to weave that story line into a lot of their MVs is pretty hard to duplicate. EXO's calling card has always been their commanding (both individual & group) vocals, complex choreographies and their fearless innovation. It's nice to hear about EXO's work ethic first hand from an industry peer @JosephJang . Good job on the shoot and thank you so much for sharing! @G.O.T. Games, thanks for another great reaction, but like everyone says...check out EXO's live performances, simply the best!! Be prepared tho, EXO rabbit hole is quite deep....

@@GOTGames korean media calls exo ticketing as blood ticketing. It's a battle on who can click the fastest. One reality show once tried to buy a ticket, as the clock turns 12 the site crashed and everything's sold out when it comes back.
Their first concert ticketing got delayed twice because the ticketing site needs to upgrade their database because 1 million people accessed the site at the same time. Shows even joked that everything EXO touches crashes.

EXO (SM Entertainment in general) has an amazing songwriter and producer team, who make those awesome and unique songs. I love that not only every group has its own sound/vibe and feel to it but they manage to be consistent and so good throughout the years. AND their b-sides are absolutly fantastic as well. With groups, that write and produce their own songs, i normally dont like their b-sides as much (there are exceptions like Monsta X) because they all sound the same or are just average at best compare to the title track. The team from SM comes up with so many fresh ideas

EXO was the third male kpop group I got into, and overdose was the very first song by them I heard and it was this song that D.O became mt bias in the group.

In EXO's "Overdose" MV what you saw is that the members have been trapped in a maze by the Red Force and they are trying to use their superpowers to escape the maze. For example, in the Korean version you see Chen throw a beam of light which is an example of them using their powers. Chen has the power to control lightning so he tossed a lightning bolt to Lay who has the power of healing. Lay is the only one who could have caught that light beam without being injured because Lay has the power of healing and he can heal himself.
So, the story in the MV is pretty much the members trying to summon their powers to try and escape from the maze.The box that D.O. had at the beginning of the MV was full of dirt. D.O.'s superpower is the power of earth or dirt and it gives him super strength or force, so he was using the sand to build his strength back up. The other members were also trying to use their powers of teleportation, fire, light, etc.
In the beginning when you see the EXO-K members making that picture while standing on each other, they are forming their hexagon symbol which is EXO's official symbol. (In the M version, you will notice it's different members.) The different sets you see, are thought to be different rooms within the maze, or maybe alternate realities or time periods created by the Red Force to lure the EXO members to them.
Also something to note, you see Kai in the beginning and end of the MV in the Korean version because he is the center and visual of EXO-K. However, in the Mandarin version you will see Luhan fills that same role because he is the center and visual of EXO-M. Plus, Kai and Luhan were each others' power counterparts as well. So this establishes the connection between EXO-K and EXO-M. Kai and Luhan were supposed to have a bond that connected the two groups and made them one as part of EXO's storyline.
How EXO worked back when they were split up into the two groups was that all the members were in both MVs, but the K members were featured more prominently in the K version of the song and the M members were featured in the M version. As you saw, in the EXO-K version of "Overdose" the K members sing the main parts of the song and they are the first group of 6 you see. (When you see them revisit the same sets in the MV the group you see is the 6 EXO-M members.) If you watch the Mandarin version, you will see the M members take over the main parts of the song and the K members are the ones you see second. So, even when the MVs look the same, they will always be slightly different because the members are assigned different parts in each MV.
For example, in the Korean version, the EXO-K rappers (Chanyeol and Sehun) are the ones that are part of the rap section. If you watch the Mandarin version, you will see Kris, Xiumin and Tao are the rappers because they are EXO-M's rappers. Tao is also the martial artist of the group, so he is the one that does the flips and stunts in EXO's routines. And the main vocal parts and high notes are done by Baekhyun in the Korean version, but in the Mandarin version that part is Chen's because he is EXO-M's main vocalist, etc.
At the end of the MV we discover that the maze has only one way in and no way out. Which I think is meant to represent and mirror the fact that they are saying they are trapped by love and once you are in there is no way out. The maze was also EXO's logo for this album and it is shaped like EXO's hexagon symbol.
Although, in the song they're not overdosing on anything except love. As the English lines in the song say: "So bad, no one can stop her ... her love, her love (is) fantasy ... Oh she wants me, Oh she's got me ... Oh she hurts me ... someone call the doctor ... (her love makes me) overdose ... too much of your love makes me overdose ... too much overdose ... You're in my heart ... with you I can't stop", etc. This song is kind of a love song about how powerful love can be that it feels like no matter how much you try to resist it you keep getting pulled back in like a drug.
However, for the storyline in the MV there might be a little more at play than just being drugged by love. Some theories say that the story in "Overdose" is connected to the story in their "Lucky One" MV. In "Overdose" the members get trapped in the maze and they can't find their way out. The red light represents the Red Force who have trapped them in the maze. It is thought that the maze causes the members to get disoriented and sort of become incapacitated so they are unable to defend themselves. The maze dulls their senses and makes it so they lose the ability to use their powers at full strength, etc.
The theory speculates that sometime after the end of the "Overdose" MV, EXO gets captured or transferred from the maze and brought to the government facility by the Red Force and that is why we see them in a hospital-like setting in their "Lucky One" MV. In the story in the "Lucky One" MV the members are drugged and they are being experimented on to discover what makes them so special. In "Lucky One" the members use their powers to break free from the facility. And this is where some theories connect the story in "Lucky One" to the story in their "Ko Ko Bop" MV. One theory is that the story in "Ko Ko Bop" is them trying to detox from the drugs they were given in the government facility in "Lucky One" and the blue Ko Ko Bop drink Suho mixes and the members drink is supposed to counteract the effects of the drugs in their system. That is why they act so out of it and in a drugged state in "Ko Ko Bop."
As you can see all of the stories in EXO's MVs are connected. We just have to pay close attention to every detail and put the pieces together.
"Overdose" came out in 2014 and this is one of the last MVs where all 12 members are part of the song and MV. (Kris left the group right after this MV was released and Luhan will leave within the next 6 months.)
You should watch the Mandarin versions of "Overdose," as well. :D If you watch EXO-M's version of "Overdose" you will understand why we say even though they may seem like they are similar MVs, there are distinct differences between the Korean and Mandarin versions that are important to EXO's storyline.
Plus, I think you may even enjoy the Mandarin version of the song just as much, or more.

That's right EXO MVs are like mini-movies all of which are interwoven to their concept. You won't regret getting into this group. They have the best vocalists and dancers and the most diverse discography in the industry. While all their title tracks are lit, the real gem lies in their b-sides. - Altogether ever since their debut in April 2012 including solo projects, EXO has won over 400 awards. Which put Exo in the 2018 Guinness World Records for winning the most daesangs at MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards). That also makes them the most awarded male kpop group of all time.
- The first Korean artist in 12 years to sell over 1 million copies of an album in 2013. Ever since then, Exo has been consistently selling over a million copies everytime they release a new album. Making them sextuple million sellers.
- Many of the members are also professional actors (movies, kdramas, musicals etc) and do CF (commercial film) endorsements.
- Multiple members are also models and brand ambassadors of popular name brands such as Calvin Klein, Prada, BVLGARI, Gucci, Dior, Burberry and more. Which is why they're also known as Fashion Kings.
- They were chosen to represent South Korea as the nation's pick by performing in the 2018 Olympics which is on youtube and is fire! They were also invited by the South Korean president to the Blue House to perform for Donald Trump and his daughter Ivanka who happens to be a fan of EXO.
- EXO-L is the official name for the massive fandom of EXO which stands for EXO Love

- The reason why EXO hasn't taken the world by storm is because they have been poorly advertised and managed by SM Entertainment in recent years. They haven't been given a world tour in years.
- In Asia especially, their concert tickets sell out within seconds and sometimes even less than a second which broke more records. Their live performances are phenomenal. These guys are the real deal and are considered as Kpop legends who opened the door and set the standard for the 3rd gen of Kpop. Awesome to see how much fun you're having on your EXO journey! If it's one thing you won't lack, it's favorites when it comes to EXO's music. Speaking for myself, out of the 115 unique songs they have released as a group, there are close to 90 I would consider favorites. It's super hard to choose just one track. But 'Overdose' is definitely a good candidate. Had me hooked from day one, same as 'Monster'. The live concert stages are gonna blow your mind even more, so prepare yourself to fall deeper into the EXO planet rabbit hole ^^

I think for the next group song you should def watch 'obsession'! If you wanna check out any solo stuff I def recommend lay 'lit' first - it's the most cinematic high budget mv I think I've ever seen. Kai also released a 'film' for his first album that has a bit of every song and that's visually STUNNING. And Suho JUST released a new song "Grey suit"! Then I recommend baekhyuns "Bambi", D.O. "rose", and the rap lines (chanyeol and sehun release music under "exo-SC") "what a life" and "telephone"!

I love your reactions! EXO was the first kpop group that got me hooked into kpop or should i say the music in itself. I honestly wasn't in music or dancing that much but after hearing and watching their performance in 'the eve' , I was so into it and impressed that i spent that entire week searching about them and getting to know them. Despite the members being in the military and getting so much little news about them, I still can't get over them. Its been like 5 years(?) but them love and respect I have for them isn't going down a bit.

Overdose was the song that got me into EXO and to a certain degree, further into the world of Kpop. I think it would be great to explore their Exo Planet concept. Each member has their own "powers". Songs like Mama (debut song), Power, History, Lucky One all have this theme. Growl is another iconic hit that is a MUST.

My fav group
You should check out their MV Obsession. It is from a couple of years ago and their are only 6 because 2 of the members were enlisted in the military at that time and Lay from China is not able to promote with them due to political conflicts between China and South Korea. The MV is amazing as are all of their live performances.
You should watch A.C.E's "Goblin (Favorite Boys)" music video. A.C.E are criminally underrated and deserve so much love. I also recommend MCND. They both have such good songs and other amazing content.
