I have subscribed. Whenever I watch your videos I feel like I am being taken back to the olden days. Though I love macro photography, I come here for the music..🥰🥰 Thank you..
Thanks Patricia! There is another shot of this snake on my community page here on my TH-cam channel if you would like to see its fiery red tongue :) I was happy to have that short encounter. Yes, that garden is lovely and especially that spot (has that secret garden kind of feel) in that enclosure. Thanks for watching!
@@LieslHuddleston I have just checked the picture on your community page and, yes, this snake is impressive with his beautiful red tongue. I am glad you stayed and capture his little face instead of running away (what I probably did !)
Thank you so much, Stan! I hope things are going well out there where you are :) I posted a new video today although I am not happy with the quality, I figured I better post it before I lose it as my laptop is about to quit working. I'm looking forward to your next video too, I love them!
Liesl, a wonderful video, the pictures of the birds snake and insects are really good and I love the unusual pictures of the plants. Love your video's keep them coming.
Thank you, Harold! I was surprised to just see one hummingbird, hope to try again next year and find a few of them, maybe I need to be there a couple of weeks earlier.
Hi, yaupie! Thanks for the nice comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video :) There are 2 other videos on my channel where I took pictures/video of snakes. One is titled, “Snakes, Spiders and Bees | Nature Photography” and the other is “The Joys and Terrors of Woodland Photography.” You might enjoy seeing those too
Awesome to see you are back Liesl, hope your family is well. Flower and insect images are beautiful as always. Bird and snake images are great as well, I particularly like your snake shots, eyes are sharp and it feels as though I am there in the garden. 😄 I like how you share your thinking process to make the photos. It is very helpful, thank you so much for sharing with us! 😃🙏💕
Thank you, Joyce! Yes, everyone is well now and we are happy and thankful! I'm so glad you could join in on this virtual garden walk. The day was so lovely, even if the light was 'meh' for photography LOL If the subjects are there, the photography happens easily and September this year was great for multiple subjects! I feel sad that I missed the entire fall/autumn season, but I am happy that we made it through the last couple of months. Now I am hoping for some fog or snow or frost will do, but SNOW would be extra wonderful! I hope you're able to get out and enjoy this season as well :)
Thank you Liesl for your genuine reply, writing to you is more like to an old friend than to a TH-camr. I understand how you feel, as last year around the same time, I also went through what you have went through... So glad to hear that your father and everyone is all well now. Missing the whole season of autumn is fine, we have the eyes of being a photographer, we find beauty in all seasons, right? Yes, I’m waiting patiently for snow wonderland from Garden State NJ. Happy December!! 😃💕

What a beautiful location Liesl, again I just love all of your images, they are just stunning creations 👌 I love using my 200 and 300 mm for closeup/macro photography, I find myself using those 2 lenses more than my macro lens. Your music choice and narration just made this video so relaxing. Thanks for sharing this with us. Cliff
Thanks, Cliff! I'm using my macro lens less lately too, it's nice to have the best of both worlds right on your camera at all times. I'm so glad you liked the music, you know how that goes, it took me a few hours to find these as nothing sounded right for a long time. Have a great weekend!

:) Thanks for watching my lowly effort photographing a bird, really makes me admire those of you that have those skills! Here's to lots of opportunities in the new year for us all! :D
Hi from England Liesl. That was so relaxing to watch, the images were wonderful, I also indulge in photography and flowers/ macro are my favorite things to subject. Love the channel.
Wonderful! It always fun to meet others that enjoy the same things :) We are about to experience winter, it is setting in day by day, but only 2 months to go and the flowers will start blooming again and I am excited already :D I just hope we don't have any new restrictions for going out by that time. I hope it isn't too cold where you are, but I know you live in a beautiful place, have fun out there!
Hey Liesl! Great video and beautiful shots as always! Amazing the macro work you pull out of your mobile. Loved those bird shots too, I cant wait to get a 100-400. That 5 20 dreamy shot was so amazing. Was fun following the snake around haha. Hope you are doing well!
Hey, doing well thanks! Hope you and your family are enjoying yourselves out there! I enjoyed your video this morning. The snake was a fun find, I didn't bother it for too long, but I enjoyed watching it for those few minutes. If you do get a 100-400, I hope you can find one like this one where the minimum focus distance is around 3ft. That way I can still get quite close to subjects for a 'macro-style' look and then have that extra reach for wildlife etc. I sold some stuff to buy this lens and still had to pay the rest of the amount off, but I also got it when it was on sale at $400 off at the time, I still feel super thankful to have it, it is definitely worth it - but man I wish these things weren't so expensive! Next on my wishlist is an extension tube for this lens, but I am not in a hurry, they're also so much $$$!
Hello Liesl indeed it is nice that you are back with a video. I also have the 100-400 mm canon lens and partly because of your video I now use this lens for completely different photos. Actually a multifunctional lens that you can do a lot with.
Yes! It is fast becoming my favorite lens, and I did not think anything could overtake my 100mm macro lens. But, as you say, this lens is so versatile, for what I like to do with my macro lens I can do with this one too. It's nice not to have to switch lenses during a photo walk. I still wish I could reach birds even closer, like 600mm, but I don't think I could carry a heavy lens on the kind of photo walks I enjoy. I am so glad you are enjoying this lens too, it's nice to have some photography buddies here to share with :)
@@adstoop7885 A lens caddy 😄 It would be fun, but we don't have a lot of wildlife around here, just a few birds and bunnies so I couldn't justify the cost of a 600mm. LOL
Thanks for that; I enjoyed the walk. How close were you to the snake for the face on shot? I don't think we could do that here in Australia. I too have some difficulty with the 'intensity' of light and/or colour in flowers; especially bright white ones. Does anyone have a technique which enables the camera lense to separate layers of petals;perhaps in post? Mike in Oz
Glad you enjoyed it, Mike! I was about 3-4 feet away from the snake, a little over a meter. Although this one is harmless, I still kept a decent distance away because it clearly did not want me to get too close, it showed some defensiveness when I was photographing head-on. I put a photo on my community page here on TH-cam so you can see it sticking out its red tongue. Yes, I understand you have some dangerous snakes where you are. We do too, there are a handful of venomous snakes here in Texas as well, I have memorized what they look like and avoid them if I come across them. I would not get this close to one of those. For me, the best thing has been to slightly underexpose my images (shooting in RAW) and then adjusting in Photoshop, I guess one could play with the white balance too, or watch your histogram and the color channels, and make sure none of the colors are overexposed. I am too impatient for all that, I move around quickly from subject to subject, if something works, I will stick around and take a few photos and if something is not working I move on to the next thing. :D
Hi! No, I do not use the little diffuser, I find it gets in the way because I have to tilt the lens all kinds of directions to get the shot I want, often times it will be closer than the hood would allow. I think it could potentially scare insects even more than just having the lens come close to them. It also does not really seem to make a difference with diffusing light, I just don't ever shoot in direct/harsh sunlight. And, perhaps it's just my iPhone version, but the hood actually appears in view on the photo around the very edges as well. In the video previous to this one on my channel I show lots of video footage of how I shoot with this little lens, if you would like to see :)
I agree, thank you, Alex! I had not noticed the dodo, haha! I love to often stumble on shapes of recognizable things in random places. I just looked it up and there is a name for that LOL Pareidolia: ”the tendency to perceive a specific, often meaningful image in a random or ambiguous visual pattern.” (Merriam-Webster) So I ended up reading further and some like to associate Pareidolia with mild psychosis, well you and I both know we don't have that problem :) I think artists, in general, tend to recognize shapes and patterns because we look at things more closely than the average person, seeking for things to represent in our art/creations. This has sparked an idea for a future video, so I'm really glad you noticed that and commented about it, I'm quite interested now in exploring this phenomenon further. :D
@@LieslHuddleston I think you hit the nail on the head, Liesl! Artists in general, but especially photographers, are constantly looking for compositions or for lines and shapes other people might not pay any attention to. Recognising 'things' in clouds is probably the most common one. I remember that as a child I often saw 'things' on walls where the paint or plaster had fallen off. And not too long ago, I saw a perfect head of an owl in the bark of a very old, gnarled tree.
