I love the choice to have, in a movie about fighting, an entire fight off screen. It lets the audience know that the fight is so one-sided that it's not even worth seeing, only the aftermath. Brilliant directing choice.
I always say that! Haha I watched him probably in over 30 or 40 movies and he plays characters and acts so naturally and unforced that you never get the feel he's an actor, but an actual character.
I'm not sure Clint was ever thought of as a comedian, but throughout his career in practicly every movie he had some great one liners, and delivered them perfectly

When I see William O'Connell, all I can think of is "Right you are, gentlemen" from High Plains Drifter. I like how Clint used him in several movies like he did Sondra and Geoffrey.
These two films became MASSIVE hits again a few years after their cinematic release with the emerging & booming VHS rental market...It was the first movie so many people rented & was exactly what they wanted to see ...Both great movies, hopefully Clint had a good residuals deal on the then new & unknown VHS movie market...! 👌

One of the funniest thing of this very entertaining movie is its extensive colourful character parade, it is real funny to see those grown up asholes picking fights with Clint Eastwood always with disastrous consecuences for them. It is particularly fumny the guy with the hat trying to intimidate Clint Easrwood with his crab tatoo, and how he pays his respects to Sandra Locke, after Clint takes the challenge. Priceless. Every which way but loose and it's sequel are two of the funniest films you'll ever watch, we always watch them when they're on telly, no matter how many times we watch them we're still laughing our heads off!!! It's a shame Clint Eastwood didn't do more films like this, he is a tough guy actor but he is actually very funny in these two films. THIS ACTUAL diner is located directly across the street from the 'Sylmar' metrolink station in the San Fernando Valley. STILL looks the same.
The man with the village people hat on was the barber in High Plains Drifter and the one sitting with Clint was also in the movie.
The barber was also the "Missouri Boat ride" operator in Outlaw Josey Whales.
He was also in deliverance. He was one of the rapists.
The barber in "High Plains" is in this scene but he wasn't the rapist in "Deliverance" -- that was Bill McKinney, who has the horns on his helmet.
