    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That number varies every year, so better go by percentages. 20-30% of all dualites will get CS. Now if there are 200 dualites, 40-60 will get CS. If there are 300 then 60-90 will get it and so on. The absolute number doesn't matter if you know the percentage.

    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      First of all right now is too soon to be actually thinking about all this. Atleast write your BITSAT and have some choices and then worry about what to choose among those.
      Secondly, to answer your question, you won't be doing much of +2 level physics after the first year Physics course, which is common to all.
      For your MSc, you will study some subjects like Optics, which will not be entirely new, but extensions of what you have already done, but mostly you will have totally new things. For example in the Classical Mechanics course you will learn about Hamiltonian and Lagrangian formulations of apart from the Newtonian formulation you know.
      Most of your college physics will involve a completely new topic, which is quantum mechanics, which deals with particles of extremely small sizes. It will involve a significant amount of abstract linear algebra, and it is really a totally new domain. A lot of courses will be just applications of Quantum Mechanics in one way or another.
      The only thing that remains same as before is the basic objective of Physics. Trying to explain what you see around you. Understanding nature. If you are into that sort of thing, you won't be disappointed.
      There are many people who were scared of Physics before but loved it in college. That said, it is one of the tougher MScs and one should only take up an MSc based on interest as you will be studying it for a good part of 5 years. So if you are absolutely repulsed by Physics, then probably don't go for it.

Also , what would be the placements if i did only the MSc without a dual (assuming it is allowed)

    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the support.
      1) Yes it is possible to do a 4year MSc. You can choose to not take a BE after the first year. Even if you take it, then you can still drop your second degree anytime.
      2) You will be able to appear for placement tests, subject to the condition that the respective companies allow students of such disciplines. It will vary company to company. For example, some IT companies allow only CS students. Some allow CS/EEE/EnI/ECE. Others allow all disciplines.
      3) If you are absolutely sure of your preference being pure science, then there are multiple other more suitable and cheaper options other than BITS.

  • @joshuaabraham7308

    Hey! Quick question. Did you have companies with r and d roles (based on the BE degree) prefer students with MSc physics since it would be more useful for developing new technologies?

    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Generally, placements depend on BE. Your MSc can be a huge value addition if you want to pursue inter-disciplinary research. There might be very few companies which would consider MSc as an additional advantage (for example if the role requires advanced math, which MSc Physics has). But those roles are so few and far between that it is safe to ignore them completely.

      It's like a research project. Generally one semester long. Can be made two semesters by choice in some cases.

    Hello! I would like to pursue a dual degree too but my parents have bought up some important points of concern. I want to pursue research after the dual degree but bits seems very placement oriented. I read somewhere that the msc here is placement oriented while proper mscs are more research oriented. That worries me a bit. Secondly, my parents are worried about the international acceptance of the integrated degree and whether places that offer phD will consider the integrated degree as msc or not. Could you shed some light on that?

    Bhaiya..
    I may get (MSc phy in PILANI /MSc eco in hyd) which one do you suggest.. I heard that (eco+cs) is best combo... Also heard that standards at PILANI are more than that in hyd/Goa.. And my hometown is near hyd(just giving an idea of travelling) which one do you suggest... Please respond..

    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good combo is a myth. Plus doesn't make sense to consider combos when CS is not guaranteed.
      Standards thing is also a myth. Competition is nearly the same everywhere as BITSAT marks are not a good indicator of college performance.
      Unless there are some medical or other issues, I don't think travel should matter much.

      Wrong understanding. JEE prep and exam is completely different from college semester prep and exams. Subjective papers, things being asked directly from what is taught in class, regular assessment rather than one judgement day where your luck may either shine or flop etc.

    Bhaiya can you please tell what are minor courses

    • @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341
      @everythingbitsatfromabitsi341  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a BITS' student, you can take up few courses (apart from the mandatory ones) as per your choice and interest. These courses are called electives.
      A Minor is another degree that you get, if you complete a certain set of courses. For example, you can get a minor in Finance if you do 5 courses in Finance, if a finance minor is being offered by the college.
      So basically if you choose your electives such that they fulfil the requirements of the minor, you can get a minor degree.
      In that way, for example, you'll major in CS with a minor in Finance.
