      @@elenchus You wouldn't want to do another Surface? I was thinking about one of those, but the price was super high for what I was looking for. I've only ever had HP's, but was looking at others, but the HP had what I wanted so I stayed with another Envy. My other is a 2017 15 Inch and before that is a 2011 Pavilion.

    • @elenchus
      @elenchus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@professorhineschoice I deeply love my Surface Pro, and I've VERY nearly bought both a Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 6 this year. I've waited just because I'm so late in their life cycle. My problem is really that I got the cheapest SP4, the M3 one (I really wanted passive cooling), which was never really going to meet my needs to begin with, much less 4 years later.
      I've had an Envy also, one of the very first Envys, a big 17 inch super powerful model from 2011 I think. I actually still have it behind me, although the battery long ago died.
      I think my favorite portable computers are still Surface devices, but you've got to consider that the deal isn't nearly as good as the Envy line. I really only use my laptops when I travel, which is maybe a few days a month, although these can be critical times for my work. 99% of the time I use a desktop workstation, so I'm hesitant to spend, say, $2,500 on a Surface Book 2, or even $1,800ish on a Surface Pro 6 with 16GB of RAM. But if I like the Surface Book 3 or Surface Pro 7, they will still be top contenders. Also high on my list is the Spectre 15 and XPS 15, but I lean towards the Spectre because it's quirkier.

    Lmao! Am I severely tech challenged? I seriously thought that you meant opening the laptop meant lifting the screen portion to expose the keyboard and turn the darned thing on! Only after you talked about removing the rubber on the back of the device, did I finally get it. This is exactly why I watch this kind of video from time to time. I'm going to put out a word of caution concerning these recent laptops from HP (specifically the 2019 Elitebooks). I have multiple users of whom I am sending their laptops back for repair work because the displays are going bad in as little as 3 weeks of usage. The symptoms include the screen "flashing" and then a silver glare appears on the screen almost as if there is a lot of screen bleed from the back light. It's so bad, it acts like a privacy screen. If you look at the screen dead on, you can see whats on the screen. If you look at it slightly from a left or right angle, the screen bleed is almost too much and you cannot view anything. I've never really had any issues with HP laptops until this recent batch of them. HP is having to replace the entire display. Just know that if you have a similar issue with yours, contact them and get it repaired before your warranty runs out.

    • @TheNickLavender
      @TheNickLavender 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just wanted to give an update. I have more of these that have developed the same issue. What is crazy, is that the replacement displays that HP is installing, have had the same issue pop up after about 2 months of usage and these laptops are heading back for their 2nd display replacement. I would strongly advise that anything manufactured of the Elitebook line or any of their laptops that use the same display from 2019, DO NOT PURCHASE AT ALL. The hospital I work for has purchased in bulk about 400 of these and we are preparing for an RMA nightmare as the displays on these begin to fail.

      Jayblue873 are we talking about bulky gaming laptops without touch screen, short battery life and with all plastic body here? No right? For less money you can get even better specs buying a desktop computer if only GPU and CPU are taking into consideration. But here we are taking about slim laptops with aluminum body, which are usually quite expensive if they have a core i7, dedicated graphics and touch screen. This one over here is unusually inexpensive for such laptop segment, and that was the point of my comment.

    Lisa, great video as always. You sum up everything I need to know and avoid the fluff. Maybe you could help me out with this... I'm still torn between the HP Envy 13 and Asus ZenBook, both of which would be equipped with the i7, MX250 and 16GB of memory. For the money I'd go with 256GB SSD + 16GB Intel Optane on the HP, and 512GB on the Asus. Thanks!

    Thanks for reviewing this laptop! I am really confuse between MSI PS42 or this one since the MSI is a bit more powerful (It has the 25W version of MX250, while Envy has 10W version, consider 30-35% lower perfomance than MSI), Still though, Envy has a much more elegant and nicer chassis design.

    I've been using it for almost 2 years now. (i7, 16GB, 1TB SSD). It was a great deal at Coscto when I bought it, but I have come to regret it so much. Maybe it's just my luck, but the right side plastic hinge imploded a year later and so the laptop could not be closed. Plastic fragments were falling off.
    The frustrating warranty repair took weeks! Now, another year passed, it's becoming unstable again, with a few keys not working properly. So, yah, not gonna trust HP's customer service or craftsmanship ever again.

    I'm a new programmer and looking for a great but a budget laptop, do you think this is great? I took a formulary and they gave me three options, this (I know I said budget but if it's necessary or worth paying I will pay for it) Lenovo Ideapad 3 (Great but this is better), and a Lenovo Chromebook (definitely not for programming). So what do you say, Is this worth paying or I better go with the cheaper option (the Lenovo one, Chromebook is definitely out of my options)

    I've got an older HP Envy 13 and I'm not a huge fan. The hardware design and port selection are nice but the display is garbage (serious light bleed from the bottomand I have a random white spot), it gets pretty warm under any kind of load, and the USB C port on it doesn't accept power delivery.
    Also that white back light on a silver keyboard is terrible. Looking at the keys if it isn't dark I can't tell what the letters are with the light on

    Hi Lisa. Thanks for the HP Envy 13 review. A quick question...did you find that if you balanced the Envy 13 on your knees, whilst using it, that the screen could not be bend back far enough to get a good viewing angle? My concern is that the screen may not bend back far enough.due to the design which raises the rear of the keyboard? Feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am considering purchasing the i5 model online from HP. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    • @tabhome1618
      @tabhome1618 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah even I waited for that one but no luck. I went ahead and bought one and I am quite pleased with it. It is sturdy and no flex as seen here during the keyboard eval. It runs cool and relatively silent and has a pretty good display. Working well for me but I mostly use it for word, ppt, photoshop and coreldraw work. I don't do video edits or play games and it is a pleasant device to use. The keyboard is a bit shallow but it is not a pain to use and one gets used to it after a while. Battery life ranges from 6.5 to 8 hours. I mostly use it at around 45-65% brightness. I think the screen is bright enough for indoor use. It may not work out in an outdoor scenario under direct sunlight.
      I would still like to see some review for the same, especially one that covers the kind of sd card capacities it can handle and egpu options that work or other real world stuff that actually helps with buying decisions. Benchmarks and tech stuff is good but other reviewers really don't go in the specifics of what is relevant to an end user. That is what makes this channel stand out than the rest as here it is not purely focussed on tech talk. Nearly all of these devices with similar specs perform not so different from each other in the real world, yet they all are so different in terms of what a specific user finds more suitable to their requirement. It is quite good to see that atleast someone out there understands and is taking this approach by creating content that is really relevant to the consumers than just being an alternative promotional medium for the manufacturer.

    I am in the UK and i got mine for £969. Its a good looking premium device and i love it. HOWEVER, after a year the touchpad has completely died and its not usable at all. A lot of other people has also come across the same problem and HP charges over £300 for the touchpad replacement. I must say for a £1000, HP has the worst touchpad ever. I dont think i can recommend HP Envy 13 to anyone.
