I’ve fully been bamboozled by this in the opposite direction. A band went as far as pulling the house lights back up and then as I was almost back to the door, hard fade to black, they came back out and I was like “…tf?”

I remember reading a Korn interview where they said that they hate the fake encores too, but they have to keep doing them because every crowd expects it nowadays.

All while still walking off stage after their “last” song. Shits wild to me. Though one band did it right. They played their “last” song but waited until the crowd was convinced there was no encore, before coming back out. The only people in the venue were people trying to get pictures with the band and merch. Played like a small acoustic set. Super dope.
Went to a The Dear Hunter show, and they were like, "When we play our last song we're done, no encores. In fact, every band you see do a fake walk off for an encore, just leave." I hope it catches on, to be honest
I can confirm David Draiman still does the abuse breakdown. I saw them in July with my mom (my mom likes Disturbed and she's aware of that part) but as soon as he started doing it she was laughing cause everyone knew the words to it and was singing along to it.

only once have i seen a true encore at a concert lol it was back when i went to go see Red in 2017. they got through their whole setlist, finishing with one of their biggest hits from their first album. the house lights immediately went back on along with the wait music once their set was done. but the crowd was so cheering so loudly that the band walked back on stage and played a deep cut off their new album. it was amazing!
I saw was at a spite show and Bodysnatcher played first. Awesome set great crowd. Awesome start. Then Bad Omens played. The most dead crowd I’ve ever seen. The power went out during their set and the vocalist had the audacity to say “I guess we are just too heavy” dead silence after that. So awkward for the rest of the set. The second Spite started everyone went crazy. Crowdkilling immediately ensued and I'd be lying if I said I didn't partake

As a career musician I feel I must defend introducing the band. It doesn't matter if you in the audience likes it or not because it's not done for the audience, it's done for the unknown musicians that have put countess hours of commitment into their job so that they can entertain you and make the person that everyone does know their name up front sound good. We worked hard and dedicated our lives to getti9ng on that stage so we have earned that introduction.
They gotta start using that reverse encore... go off for a couple minutes and run back out and shout "We haven't had enough of you folks yet, give it up for yourselves one more time!!!" then play one more

They'd play for 2 minutes, then all leave the stage for a minute and come back out like they're just starting their set. This happened half a dozen times. I felt like most of the crowd became a little confused after the third or so walk off.
The society banner would’ve gone over better if they: A. Didn’t outright call attention to it (i.e.: “This is what I think…”), and B. Did the more punk thing and burn it while playing in a small club that would’ve undoubtedly freaked out about it.

I remember the bassist looking like Ned Flanders, and there was one point when the singer went on a rant about prayer in schools and then took to reciting the pledge of allegiance and emphasized "UNDER GOD" before playing their next song. I get that this is a Christian metal show, but I'd like to think most Christians are of the understanding that there's a time and a place for this.
With the encore thing there's a band called the Wildhearts who have a well rehearsed encore routine that the fans are in on, where they leave then the fans sing the hidden track from one of their albums, which has 3 overlapping parts, the fans divide it up without any need for direction then the band come back on. Occasionally though the singer just says "heres the bit where we fuck off, you sing for a bit, then we come back... How about we cut out the middle man and just play 3 songs instead?"

I’m not standing there literally face palming on stage thinking how tf did I end up in this situation when the singer gets pissed and screams “ I SAID TAKE A F*CKING STEP FORWARD”.. people just slowly stepped forward out of fear

I attend dozens of big shows every year and out of all those shows I saw last year, there were only three shows where the crowd just erupts after the last song and kept it going in hopes of an encore. All the other bands would walk off stage and waited just a couple of minutes before running back on stage whether the crowd got loud or not, it was cringe every time. The 3 bands that got true encores waited for a long time before coming back on stage and only after the crowd had stayed loud the whole time. They were Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, The Black Crowes, and the band that waited the longest and got the loudest applause wanting an encore was Robert Plant and Alison Kraus, they waited an eternity and for their encore they covered Zeppelins Rock and Roll, which was Epic.
Once I went to watch a band play, some local band was opening. They got mad and proceeded to swear at the crowd because no one was singing along to their songs while they kept holding the microphone out to the crowd.
I was at the Rave in Milwaukee, WI about 15 years ago, and the band that went on after us, the singer took his shirt off, then layed a towel on the floor and proceeded to stick his finger down his throat to make himself puke on stage on the towel. All of this happening mid song. so cringe! lol
I think it was in 2017 or 2018 when I went to my first metal show. It was my first Band Crush Arch Enemy, and I was super hyped for them. But they had 3 support bands, of which I knew non. Two of them turnend out to be awesome, Jinjer and Wintersun. The third band however (which I don´t remember the name of) was a bit odd. I cannot remember their style, but one of the guitarrists jumped around on the stage like a tornado the whole set, until about 20 minutes in. At that point he twisted to much, he fell over right into the drumms, and kicking down half the drummset. Forcing him to rebuild the drumset midsong, nobody caring to assit him. When he was done he finished the set not moving away from his designated position. It was hillarious

Former rock star here. The proper form for drinking wine during a gig is 1)Have some glass, use a glass. Beer steins work fine. 2)There is no shame in being a wine drinking rock star. It's uncool, sure, but you should be used to being an outcast by now, so fly that freak flag!
My cringiest gig story is when I got essentially held hostage by my own band. We finished our set at a small dive bar but the sound guy just didn't turn on the background music again so we played one more song. But then my other two band mates just kept starting more songs and we had basically run out of playable material. So I kept trying to end the set and they kept going...

I remember listening to Blink-182s live album the mark tom and Travis show and they joked that they were going to comeback out and the shows not over, it’s funny as hell as they are so self aware how cringe it is.

I went to see Coheed and Cambria for the first time, and one of the openers was Glassjaw. The guitarist was in a thick puffy jacket, looking like he lost a bet (it was an indoor venue), and the only crowd interaction was the singer yelling "get that fuckin camera outta my face." Just awful performance, and the other two openers before them blew me away. Shoutout to Silver Snakes and I the Mighty!

He does this *A LOT,* he’ll be reading the comment and change words or completely skip over key words and sentences that give more context to the story, it just irks the shit out of me.

Went to Fallout boy when I was in High school. Cobra Starship and Paul Wall opened for them. Paul wall is on stage, and he goes all the way to the verrrrrry edge of the stage, puts his mic out to the crowd, and screams, “HOLLA IF YOU AINT GOT STDS!!!” Lol fucking what? Everyone in the stadium did a collective, “huh?” It didn’t get any better after that.

Once I went to watch a band play, some local band was opening. They got mad and proceeded to swear at the crowd because no one was singing along to their songs while they kept holding the microphone out to the crowd.

I was at the Rave in Milwaukee, WI about 15 years ago, and the band that went on after us, the singer took his shirt off, then layed a towel on the floor and proceeded to stick his finger down his throat to make himself puke on stage on the towel. All of this happening mid song. so cringe! lol
I think it was in 2017 or 2018 when I went to my first metal show. It was my first Band Crush Arch Enemy, and I was super hyped for them. But they had 3 support bands, of which I knew non. Two of them turnend out to be awesome, Jinjer and Wintersun.
The third band however (which I don´t remember the name of) was a bit odd. I cannot remember their style, but one of the guitarrists jumped around on the stage like a tornado the whole set, until about 20 minutes in. At that point he twisted to much, he fell over right into the drumms, and kicking down half the drummset. Forcing him to rebuild the drumset midsong, nobody caring to assit him. When he was done he finished the set not moving away from his designated position.
It was hillarious

I was once at a local venue and Wolves at the Gate was performing, they played a couple of songs and then the vocalist proceeded to go on a 15-20 minute talk about religion… not what we went to a concert for. My friend and I walked outside and smoked a cigarette until the next band came on.

We finished our set at a small dive bar but the sound guy just didn't turn on the background music again so we played one more song. But then my other two band mates just kept starting more songs and we had basically run out of playable material. So I kept trying to end the set and they kept going...

I watched an opener for a hardcore show (solo set) scream while playing piano. Bad piano, blood curdling screams. They then decided to start stapling shit onto their body while screaming into the mic. Nobody cheered, nothing, it was just weird.
In '89 I saw the Cure, they VERY RELUCTANTLY played FIVE encoures!
I remember listening to Blink-182s live album the mark tom and Travis show and they joked that they were going to comeback out and the shows not over, it’s funny as hell as they are so self aware how cringe it is.
To this day I will not laugh at the fact a fan at a cannibal corpse show yelled while drunk “play something heavy 🤓🤓!”

I went to see Coheed and Cambria for the first time, and one of the openers was Glassjaw. The guitarist was in a thick puffy jacket, looking like he lost a bet (it was an indoor venue), and the only crowd interaction was the singer yelling "get that fuckin camera outta my face." Just awful performance, and the other two openers before them blew me away. Shoutout to Silver Snakes and I the Mighty!
I love when they read comments from Facebook, but, and there’s always a but lol, one thing that grinds my
gears, is when Jared is reading comments and skips over key words that give context to the story. He does this *A LOT,* he’ll be reading the comment and change words or completely skip over key words and sentences that give more context to the story, it just irks the shit out of me.

Paul wall is on stage, and he goes all the way to the verrrrrry edge of the stage, puts his mic out to the crowd, and screams, “HOLLA IF YOU AINT GOT STDS!!!”

I went to a show and the lead singer/bassist jumped to hit the first chord but slammed his head on the ceiling and knocked himself out, it was actually pretty scary.
