As a kid, I was a big fan of Gilligan's Island, so I did enjoy The New Adventures of Gilligan, which aired in 1974. Gilligan's Planet aired in 1982, and I remember seeing a few episodes, but by that time in my life, I was more interested in sleeping in than getting up for cartoons.
Yeah, i remember my older brothers and sister started to sleep in on Saturdays. As the youngest I didn't have to fight for channels and kept the tradition longest. Thanks for sharing and watching.
I'm now interested in seeing all these animated adventures. I wasn't around then, but now I have to find these! Mork, Happy Days & Gilligan all sound like a hoot, Laverne & Oddball Couple sounds at least fun and Emergency sounds like an adventure. MUSH, well, palatable, I guess? If I could find these older toons on a free streaming app or full episodes on TH-cam without subscribing... (Budget woes) I'd be in to sample, for sure!
5:50, Hard to tell if this Cartoon takes place in-between some of the Seasons of the OG Happy Days series or its own separate thing. I guess it can probably go either way depending on how you look at it.
@@GENXPERIENCE That's actually a good point. Because I'm sure they would've mentioned something about traveling through time with a random girl from the Future, or anyone knowing where Fonz, Mr.Cool, Ralph and Richie went after hanging out at Arnold's.
The '70s was a great time to be a kid, watching Saturday morning cartoons. I remember watching The Oddball Couple because I enjoyed the Klugman/Randall sitcom. A friend of mine was so enthralled with the show Emergency! that he grew up to become a fireman. He would talk about both the live action show and its cartoon version, Emergency! +4. I always thought having 4 teenagers with their pets joining firemen/paramedics on rescue missions was ludicrous. Talk about lawsuits waiting to happen!
OH, the ODDBALLS. That was unique for sure. I love the real Emergency, so I bet I would have loved the cartoon if I remembered it. NO joke. THe kids were in peril every episode.
Some of these I've heard about, like Gilligan's New Adventures/Planet. Some, like The Gary Coleman Show and Uncle Croc's Block. thankfully I've never heard of, LOL! Haven't checked out your Part 2 yet, but have you forgotten My Favorite Martian (which I think was fairly decent)? There was also the animated Star Trek, which I think was pretty good.
Opening your eyes...to some of the worst cartoons ever, lol. They certainly were a novelty and interesting. More to come. Thanks for always leaving a note.
Yes, of course. I remember the start of that show with the animation and when the coaster came in to a full stop with the 3 actors inside (one with colorful socks, lol) and of course...GARY GNU (Ganooze). I've wanted to touch on those live action kid's show...maybe soon.
When I was a kid, I very rarely delve deep into animation style. Truth be told, I wanted to be an animator, so I didn't care. However, today, I can kind of laugh at them.
Like so many I grew up with them when it comes to Godzilla I prefer the old ones but I did have DVDs Godzilla 1990s and 2000 so I accept them also in my Glory Days I had GI Joe He-Man and all kinds of things but the great Commander yes Jesus or God could not protect my stuff it was either stolen from me or lost a Time and when I was a kid nothing about being a collector After High School I'm going to two colleges but never graduating I tried to learn art from Minneapolis Minnesota the thing you see that says drove the little puppy or the pirate and I learned some interesting things but then most terrible thing happened my loved ones started getting sick and old and I had to make his decision so I sacrificed all things in our world like road signs movie posters all these things that I learned that are actually art
Being of a similar vintage (if not a touch older) this has been a blast from the past... on the one hand, kids miss out the magic of Saturday morning cartoon blocks, and afternoon cartoons. The flip side of that is it certainly invoked Sturgeon’s Revelation (90% of everything is crap).
Agreed. Yes, young people dont get the incredible experiences are youth, but I love how you point out that looking back...no matter how much we thought everything was incredible...nostalgia is the best part. The actual content NOT THAT GREAT, lol. Thank you
It's no big surprise that they made the characters of Felix and Oscar into a cat and dog for the animated counterpart! Like Felix Unger, cats are usually fastidious. And like Oscar Madison, dogs like to be dirty and sloppy.
I believe, Richie and Ralph had left Happy Days when the cartoon premiered. So it was always odd that they agreed to do the cartoon. They left during an actors' strike. And became directors. Potsie also became a director, even though he stayed with the live action show.
Probably because after leaving the show, Voice Acting work would not be the same time consuming filming schedule as a sitcom day after day, and Voice Acting may not have been affected by the strike (I think), so it was a way for a paycheck.
Easy way to make a paycheck. A lot of cartoons have the actors voice their parts all in one sitting for the whole season. No makeup, no wardrobe, just sit in front of a microphone and talk.
I actually watched the Oddball Couple long before I ever heard of the Odd Couple. I never really got into the Odd Couple series, but I love the movie with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau!
I was a regular Uncle Croc watcher and fan. It's probably the only one of all the shows you mentioned I would watch again and would pay for a good quality reissue. I thought it was a scream. You do realize it was all a send-up of Saturday morning junk, right?
I remember watching Gilligan's Planet. In fact, I knew about the animated cartoon before I knew about the live action TV series and was a bit confused and surprised when I turned on the TV and saw a live action version of Gilligan instead of a cartoon. I got over it pretty quick, though. 🙂 Note: I was a bit confused as to why Ginger was the only live action character that looked different from her cartoon counterparts. I didn't learn why until years later.
THat is crazy! Watching Planet before even the original sitcom. I imagine it would be strange. Yes, I didn't mention the blonde Ginger in the show, but it probably was a good idea. Funny, Tina Louise is the only OG cast member alive.
Sometimes not ALL of them were that bad, some of them are probably Guilty Pleasure to most People, like The Fonz & The Happy Days Gang or Laverne and Shirley for example. I'm one of them.
Even if they were all part of a peculiar time of Live Action going cartoon, there were some fun ones. I have to admit I watched Laverne and Shirley, too
Garry Marshall wanted a piece of Saturday Morning TV and ABC had to oblige him. Ergo, cartoons featuring "The Fonz," "Laverne & Shirley," and "Mork and Mindy." I preferred the "Private Olive Oyl" segments on CBS at the time.
me, talking to the Narrator: the show had a dog. Narrator: And are ya ready for this? And their pets. (4:00-4:02) me: given this is a "serious" show, maybe the dog isn't the typical silly sidekick. Narrator and on-screen image prove me wrong (4:17-4:27)

So glad you found it. Thanks for watching AND for commenting. Okay, I was not a fan of Kroc Block, but I know a lot of people that are, so very cool. I am going to do a Sid & Marty Kroft show, and that will include Far Out Space Nuts with Bob Denver. Gilligan's planet came long after Lost in Space, though.
As if Scooby-Doo clones weren't enough, now we had animated series adapted from sitcoms & dramas. Still at a time when the big 3 or Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, DePatie-Freling, & Ruby-Spears couldn't come up with anything original. I'll bet all these stars had dreams had dreams of being cartoon characters.
You're not crazy, yes, I remember those cartoons and I used to watch them the origin behind happy days gang was really bizarre. I'm a huge doctor who fan and any little tip bit about the good doctor I'm always interested in, so Hannibal bear went to the BBC and wanted to do a doctor who cartoon but it was not today I guess they pitched them an idea and they said nah. We're not interested so I'm a barrel of active robot so I said what if we took happy days and did it with them just took all the doctor who's stuff out of it. I know if they went.
As only a casual Dr Who enthusiast, I did find this extremely interesting. Especially because you can see that bit of influence from the Dr. on the Fonz show. Thanks for sharing this and watching.
Both Ralph and Richie were redheads and had R names. The cartoon logic at the time would be to have the characters as different as possible. They should have used Potsie and made him blonde.
Kevin Tighe pronounces his stage name as "Tie," like Colonel Tigh off Battlestar Galactica, not Teeg, like in the name Teague. You're not the first popculture TH-camr I've encountered to mispronounce it, but I'm old enough to remember the next week previews at the end of each week's episode, with one lead actor or the other introducing themselves in voiceover over the footage and inviting us to tune in next week.
Well, you were discussing "Emergency +4" and talking about how they got the original actors, Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth, to voice their characters, and that's why you would've mentioned the actors' names, in order to provide useful context and information (which you did :))

I loved Carlton that was the funniest thing in the world. I’m in the middle, the cartoon that was great. And his voice was Garfield. I’m old too.
Carlton character is CLASSIC. I loved that the same voice did our favorite fat cat.
The Addams Family RV looks errily similar to the Creepy Coupe driven by the Gruesome Twosome from "The Wacky Races" (1968).
