Yes. I bought two of these adapters. They work OK for just general usage. I put on in an Optiplex 9020 with a 500W PSU and a GTX 970 and after a few hours, the PC starts going into an infinite reboot loop. I tried with both adapters and three different PSUs. When I returned the PC to stock, I also had to reset the bios to defaults to get the thing to boot again. It runs a GTX 460 just fine. I imagine a GTX 960 would be OK since it draws less current than the GTX 460 does through the PCIe slot. The PCIe slots can handle up to 75 watts. I think this adapter is only good for about 20 watts.

I have a question brother, can I use use 500w psu with 24 pin and just cut and add the wires with a 8 pin connector….You reply will be very helpful for me
While it’s technically possible to modify a 24-pin PSU connector to fit an 8-pin motherboard connector, I strongly recommend against it. Here’s why: 1. Compatibility Issues: Dell desktops often use proprietary connectors, and their pin configurations may differ from standard ATX connectors. Cutting and splicing wires can lead to compatibility issues or even damage components. 2. Safety Concerns: Modifying power supply cables can be risky. Incorrect connections could cause electrical problems, short circuits, or even fires. 3. Warranty Void: Altering components may void warranties or support agreements. Alternative Solutions: ⦁ Adapter Cable: Look for a 24-pin to 8-pin ATX power supply adapter cable specifically designed for Dell systems. These adapters ensure proper connections without compromising safety. ⦁ External PSU: If your Dell case doesn’t accommodate a standard ATX PSU, consider using an external PSU (outside the case) with the necessary connectors.
HI, I NOTICED THAT WHEN YOU TURNED ON THE NEW POWER SUPPLY, THE PC TURNED ON AND SECONDS LATER, OFF. IS THIS NORMAL FOR THESE DELL OPTIPLEX BECAUSE MINE DOES EXACTLY THE SAME?? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Did you update the BIOS for the 9020? Last BIOS dell driver update is from July 2019. Recent but two years old now. I never had issues with the 24 pin to 8pin adapters. Most likely, the issue might be with the power supply you are using. Ive only used a 500W power supply unit. That is the minimum standard for any graphics card. If the card was made in 2020, the dell BIOS might not have the right instructions to work with any card made in 2020. Most people overkill with the power supply and put in a 750w and they have a GTX 1060, with a single hard drive. If you have that pc and uses just 1 SSD, 16GB RAM, i7 4790 processor, matx motherboard, cd/dvd drive with a GTX 1060 = your total power draw is 310watts. Also, I play on a GTX 1060 that is why I use that reference
@@billn.1318 Yes both the 9020 and the 3040 have the most current bios and they both have EVGA 500W PSUs. The question isn't how much power a GPU consumes in total. The problem is how much does it consume through the PCIE slot. Some consume more than others through the PCIE slot. There is nothing wrong with the GPUs, MBs or the PSUs. I tested both GPUs and PSUs on an MSI H110 that doesn't need an adapter and everything works fine without the adapter. One of the adapters burned out and won't even work at all after just 30 mins of use. The adapters should be able to pass at least 125 Watts but they don't. The can't even handle 50 watts because they are junk. All I'm doing is suggesting that people don't buy an adapter that can't pass at least 125 watts to the main board. Sorry, unfortunately, I couldn't find any adapter to convert a Dell power supply to a 24-pin standard power supply. This is because there is no demand for such a tool since Dell PSUs are mostly low wattage. A standard PSU with a 24-pin connector is very accessible on the market at a comfortable price.
