I noticed the the little gems had weight to them in the property menu. When you simulated the dress would get dragged down. You can change the items weight to 0 and the dress would be unaffected.
When you bring it back in as a trim. Click the object and you will see the glue option in the 3d window. Also turn the weight of the object down to 0 . Watch this video th-cam.com/video/YGw-lQar-xQ/w-d-xo.html

it just defaults to it. You can make them square once your done with your mesh
Select all of the fabric and Click on the remesh button
