    I've been using a FRFR setup since they became a thing in the early AxeFx days. It's the way to go if you can understand and accept that you need to work everything else in sync that is 'guitar-oriented'' (including plugins, EQ settings, pedal settings, PA setup, FOH person, etc). It provides a baseplate for a much more versatile sound - although you do need to shift your thinking about what a cab does and how you incorporate it into your chain. It pairs extremely well with flatter response, high-headroom pickups (I use volt-modded EMGs) for maximum tone-shaping capacity.

    Almost sounds like a Dokken riff, Slippin Away off of Under lock and key, or the song Holding On For You by Annihilator. Both are great songs

    Would love to know how it sounds as a pseudo PA speaker, i.e. with acoustic guitar and vocals routed into the Aux input whilst running electric guitar as usual. Will it give good tonal range and balance for those extra signals? And how does it tonally compare with the Fender Tone Master FRFR 10 (and/or 12) for the same 3-signal use?

    Thanx for a dB reading. With a classic backline with only the vocals using a mic anything less than getting 95dB from a guitar amp and you are royally screwed. Until they make a volume knob for a drummer than a 95dB is the 11th Commandment. Also THANX for the feedback thing. It too is a mandatory function. In a classic guitar, bass and drums and muggins here doing ALL the singing anything less than what I can do with my 50 watt Plexi is a no go. I just swapped over to a Friedman IR-X tube pre. I have yet to find adequate amplification. For the record the Plexi will be retired to the corner of the room but NEVER sold, 😇

    I subscribe to both real amps and cabs in WDW. As a secondary option I have an AXEFX3 and QC that I’ll use as a second option with a stereo power amplifier. Assuming this can do stereo by having a second cab. I wonder if WDW setup can be accomplished with 3 of these?

    First of all, thanks for doing that video.
    My opinion:
    We talk about FRFR, so we talk about a sound which comes with an IR loaded and produced...and the keypoint is, an IR is an already miced up speaker, so there is the character of the used microphone included.
    Wouldn't it be better, to just use your room mic, instead of close micing this cabinet?
    I think, that would represent the over all sound more realistic.
    And at some point you said, that you could mic the cab for live...which would be totally insane, because it would change your actual sound again...why micing an signal which already simulates a mic speaker? ;)
    This cab seems great for on stage monitoring or practice with band and get back that "real" feeling, like playing an amp/cab in the good old days. 😊
    Sending the IR sound to FOH is the best, savest and easiest way to deliver a guitar sound.

      @TSFAHTPS  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@joewebrocks I know it’s not really meant for close micing…I just did it in this video because the direct output isn’t working yet because the software where you can load IRs isn’t available yet…I could have distance miced it but I don’t really have enough space in my studio so I close miced it. The mic I use to talk into was peaking when I had the volume up high so that wouldn’t have worked either

    There seems to be a loud hiss in your audio that sounds like your compressor raised the noise floor or had to do the work of your preamp. It is best to hit an average of -9 db at the peaks when recording (A relatively hot signal) to avoid the compressor or editor having to do too much of the work in post, and thus raising the noise floor. I love your setup and studio.

This is not a rant…I am not complaining…I just get a little frustrated when people think that we get stuff for free…we don’t…it’s a LOT of work and very time consuming…and there are a lot of costs involved to make regular TH-cam videos!!

    I realize I am being a bit picky, but a (powered) cabinet cannot be both "FRFR" and "voiced for guitar". Those are 2 very different things. Either the highs and lows are "managed", or they are full range and flat. Having said that, I am interested to try one out when they arrive in stores. Has anyone made a product like this that will take a speaker out from a tube amp? I'm not sure whether that would need an artificial load or if the speakers would handle it, but either way it seems doable and something I imagine would be very useful for a wide range of people, and venues. I suppose attenuators have gotten pretty reasonable and anyone with a collection of heads probably has one but it seems like a good differentiator from all the other For Real For Real cabs out there.
