Im his biggest fan easily he is my inspiration he just makes most other bass players boring i find it hard to watch other people play because they are so soft with the instrument and my god the amount of people who dont acknowledge him or even know him he is easily the best bass guitarist to ever hold the instrument

John's classic Thunderbird was actually a hybrid called the 'Fenderbird' - a T bird with a P bass neck.
I've got a black Vintage Pro. Sounds good. Looks very cool. Finger board's a bit rough. But for the money you can't really go wrong.

The Epi Vintage Pro is an awesome sounding bass. I would take one of those over the Gibson anytime. Better pickups and bridge imo, and the whole vibe is just more true to the T-birds i grew up lusting after. Now that Epiphone have rejigged their T-bird case to actually fit the longer headstock, there's no excuse not to own one and pay the extra hundred quid for the case.

I own one. I love it. I also own the "lesser" Embassy vintage Pro rewired to thunderbird specs and it sounds almost identical. I also own a Thunderbird 5 pro that I had rebuilt by Mike Lull and all chromed like the vintage Pro. I love them all. The 5 string is my main. But of them all. The vintage Pro thunderbird sounds the best.

the epiphone looks more traditional, and authentic to the true design of the Gibson thunderbird then gibson itself, the only thing id do to the epiphone to fool every single "historical" and gibson fanboy out there, is simply put a gibson truss rod cover and throw out the epiphone truss rod cover, and if you really really want to (but you dont have to) lollar makes pickups that replicate the old sound of the gibson thunderbirds with chrome covers

@@billfraser1491 depends tho, i have a classic pro which im happy with but i havnt tried a vintage pro, but ive heard from other that the vintage pro has more neck dive. Many people complain about the classics bridge but ive had no issues, pickups are debatable since its all opinion but i like the deeps sound of my classic pro. Less growl but you can get that with a bit of gain and boosted mids on an amp.

I gigged with an ebony Gibson '76 reissue from '76 on through an Ampeg SVT & 2 SVT cabs(16x10s-later used a V4B cab 2x15s w/ 8 x10s). This bass needs an amp like the SVT, it then truly produces THUNDER, but w/ the versatility of the SVT the piano like highs are also awesome. After I added the folded horn(V4B cab) one bartender at a very large club in Illinois used to tell I wasn't too loud, but, the drink glasses were "dancing" on the bar from the low end! Bass was stolen, along with my 4001 Rickenbacker in the late '70s I now have the bolt on Epi TBird & the Epi Vintage Pro TBird in Ebony along with my other assorted basses. Both are surely giggable with the right amp & a little care. My guitarist played a red 60s Firebird(we both carried backup axes). Good playing on the video, BUT, the amp does NO justice to these excellent basses. Personally, I detest the cheap looking black plastic pups & hardware on the Gibbys of the last few decades, but that's me. The vintage models, both Gibson & Epi, are heavy in the headstock & will do nosedives, but a rearrangement of the strap buttons can help a lot. By the way, the first time I gigged with the cheap bolt on Epi TBird(Yorkville Bassmaster combo) around 2005, a nice looking young woman walked up to me at break & stated "I don't know what kind of bass you're playing, but it sure knows how to vibrate the right places!" 'Nuff said?"

Got a Tobacco finish Epiphone Thunderbird from a mate of mines bassist for £140 in 2013. Still have it (Im using it in two different vids on YT). The advantage of his was that he relocated the strap buttons - the back one was moved to the high point of the tail end and the one nearest the neck is through the makers plate that joins neck and body. Result is no more "nodding donkey" when letting it hang free like regular basses...

I own an alpine white vintage Pro and absolutely love it. It is my backup bass though. *My main bass is an Epi thunderbird 5 pro in trans black that I had Mike Lull chrome out *swap all hardware*, gut the garage actives and toss his pickups, and replace the bridge, it definitely an awesome beast.* After owning the vintage for a while, I went to Sam Ash Vegas and side by side test the both a 2018 gibson vs the vintage and the bolt on epi...
The bolt on neck is a different thickness 1.7" nut, 3 point bridge, had some sharp frets, it played OK but was very congested sounding and just was uninspiring.
The gibson had the 1.5" nut and extra slim neck, babich bridge, no sharp fret ends, but several nasty flaws in finish. It's set up was garbage but it played OK. It was a little like the bolt on epi, a little less congested, articulate on the lower strings and thumpy but cloudy on top, very very hot pickups but lacking in good definition.
The Epi vintage Pro has the same profile neck as the gibson, the 2 piece bridge *made of brass* does help with the upper end clarity. It's not as hot as the gibson, but definitely far more open, growly, rich in harmonics, and takes to overdrive very well. Being the only one to come with chrome hardware, it stands out very well on stage and really gives a great look on stage.

I do wish people would stop this “snake oil” description of finishes (not saying your dishonest, just completely inaccurate. Sorry). Both poly and nitro are completely air and watertight finishes. Neither allow anything to “breathe”. Especially as wood has no lungs! Nitro decays easier and quicker than poly. It’s worth remembering that nitro was specifically created to protect metalwork from rust. It’s just 70 year old technology that’s not that efficient.

Plus they're going to make a DC LP Junior this year for even less than that. I actually Paid 550€ for a new 2013 EB-Bass in an end of line deal.
