Everyone needs to stop hating on this song. Songs About Jane was truly an amazing album, I agree. Everyone was hating on Overexposed because it has a pop sound to it and that it was straying from its rock/alternative roots. But I particularly love this song mainly for this reason: the blend. The lyrics are lively and pop-y like Overexposed, and the beat is somewhat reminiscent of Songs About Jane. I personally loved Overexposed, and I thought that it deserved a lot more love than it got. And this is only one song from the album. There will be about 10 or 12 more songs in addition to this. Don't judge V just by this specific song. Who knows, this could be Jane's big comeback. I, personally, hope that the entire album is like this song: a perfect mix of Overexposed and Songs About Jane. Sometimes I feel that I am the only person who likes this song. I give M5 my full support, and I hope you do too.

Never been a fan of Maroon 5. But I will say that this song and music video paint a different picture than I was expecting. I will never deny that what they did here was interesting.

But I'm pretty sure (and hope) the entire band is loving where they are at right now! They haven't sold out. FFS! They've evolved. If they released SAJ today it would bomb. Not because it's not incredible, it is. But cos the music landscape has changed. So if they want to survive and keep doing what they love, they have to keep evolving. SAJ probably would bomb if they released it today. It was the style of early 2000's. Most of the music that were hits back then, probably would barely chart nowadays. Wow, this is really good! Really big departure from Maroon 5's other stuff, but it still captures that tone. It's really seamless and beautifully crafted. The first part of the chorus actually sounds like Am I Wrong, and the second part sounds nothing like Maroon 5. Still a wonderful song.

I sang this in 6th grade 2016, because I had been bullied in 5th grade and was still the left out kid even years after. My mom would sometimes go to my school to try and help. My father told me I just had to be stronger and only once. He was never there for me to begin with but this was especially disappointing. Years later this song holds an especially special place in my heart. In 8th grade my parents began arguing constantly due to financial issues, then my father was discovered cheating in my mom with a young 20 year old woman (he’s almost 50 at this time). Then shortly after starting high school the following year he started using drugs. This entire situation was terrifying for me, and seeing the psychological effect drugs have on a person is traumatizing. I genuinely feared going home after school when I was supposed to be having fun. All I got was attempted break ins, calling 911 for my moms health issue related to the stress, and being left alone for hours at at time hiding as my dad tried to break in as my mom worked herself exhausted as she was previously a stay at home mom who never worked a day in her life. Im in college now and was recently diagnosed with PTSD. I was never able to enjoy what for many teens are the most enjoyable and import phase of their life, where you grow socially and physically. Everyone around me still see my dad as a hero because he was always so kind to everyone, and he was for a time. But this was the second time on drugs (my currently 30 year old sis went through this too, far before I was born as a young child but no PTSD thankfully) and he knew exactly what he was getting into and I should have never felt unsafe. I looks exactly like him so they’ll talk to me about him all the time instead of my mom who also has a boyfriend. None of those people were there for me. People flocked to my mom in sympathy while I was pushed away when they wanted a private word with her. “I wonder where we’re you” indeed. One day I will have a stable job and move on in my life alongside the people I know truly love that I also love in return. It’s hard, but the therapy helps and I know that any overwhelming feels about that future change are temporary and can one day step foot in my own hard earned home and feels truly at peace, and not the urge to run away. I don’t think anyone will read this, it’s only for me. So, future Nat, when we stumble on this video again comment how far we’ve gone. Good or bad I’ll be proud ok?
It happens to every pop band that becomes famous and rich because then they don't have the same style because they're not in the same situation as they were when they wrote the first album. It becomes generic pop because now that they're well known they need to pander to a greater audience.
Ben Palmer I agree, unfortunately. They've said they went in this direction starting with OE mostly because it is in line with what's popular now on the radio. While that variety and change up has helped grow their fanbase over the years, Maroon 5 is one band that never needed it. That's not a bad thing, but they traded some of their originality for it. Some change is good so you don't go stale, but really, this band just didn't NEED to go in that direction at all. I think they would of been just as successful, if not more, had they continued to stay truer to their roots. HOA should of been a clue for them to try and go back to their roots, instead of veering off in a different direction. Seems like V isn't as bad as OE, with some songs going back a bit to their old style and being more of a mixed bag. But I could only imagine what would happen if they made a second SAJ-style album now. :)
1. It doesn't matter if they didn't need to go in a certain direction, if they've already done it, there is nothing we can do about that. 2. HOA may have failed at first, but that doesn't meen it was a clue to go back to their roots. Especially with smash hits like Misery and Moves Like Jagger. 3. OE wasn't bad at all and is my favorite album by them so far. 4. I admit that a second SAJ-style album would be interesting, but with the way M5 is now, it's not very likely. The closest thing we've got is "Leaving California" and a couple other songs on V that sound like SAJ. 5. "...they would of been just as successful, if not more, had they continued to stay truer to their roots." Not really. That's not very likely in this generation. A different style is preferred today. Moves Like Jagger probably wouldn't have been as successful if it had sounded like Songs About Jane. 6. Just let Maroon 5 go in what direction they want, they may release something in the future that surprises. It doesn't matter if you like their music in the future or not, but they'll always be Maroon 5... the true Maroon 5 that releases every album in a different style.
Dollarluigi very true and I agree! There's just so much debate going on anyway haha. Misery might of been a hit, but pretty much if it wasn't for Adam joining the voice, it wouldn't of been as successful I don't think. The re-release with MLJ included after they performed it on the show made it big, but the original release didn't go very far. I heard they were actually thinking of calling it quits after HOA, but then Adam joined the show and everything changed. I'm not fighting the direction they're going in, I think I'm one of the few that actually defend them for it lol as I like all of their stuff, new and old. They can do whatever they want, but so many people harp on them for selling out to mainstream pop, even though it's made them more popular. M5 probably has one of the most divided fanbases there is for that reason. Funky unique music is in, pop is always tops, but the indie genre is creeping up fast and I really think they could take it to the next level even more if they went back in that direction more.

Wow, this is really good! Really big departure from Maroon 5's other stuff, but it still captures that tone. It's really seamless and beautifully crafted. The first part of the chorus actually sounds like Am I Wrong, and the second part sounds nothing like Maroon 5. Still a wonderful song.

I sang this in 6th grade 2016, because I had been bullied in 5th grade and was still the left out kid even years after. My mom would sometimes go to my school to try and help. My father told me I just had to be stronger and only once. He was never there for me to begin with but this was especially disappointing.
Years later this song holds an especially special place in my heart. In 8th grade my parents began arguing constantly due to financial issues, then my father was discovered cheating in my mom with a young 20 year old woman (he’s almost 50 at this time). Then shortly after starting high school the following year he started using drugs. This entire situation was terrifying for me, and seeing the psychological effect drugs have on a person is traumatizing. I genuinely feared going home after school when I was supposed to be having fun. All I got was attempted break ins, calling 911 for my moms health issue related to the stress, and being left alone for hours at at time hiding as my dad tried to break in as my mom worked herself exhausted as she was previously a stay at home mom who never worked a day in her life.
Im in college now and was recently diagnosed with PTSD. I was never able to enjoy what for many teens are the most enjoyable and import phase of their life, where you grow socially and physically. Everyone around me still see my dad as a hero because he was always so kind to everyone, and he was for a time. But this was the second time on drugs (my currently 30 year old sis went through this too, far before I was born as a young child but no PTSD thankfully) and he knew exactly what he was getting into and I should have never felt unsafe. I looks exactly like him so they’ll talk to me about him all the time instead of my mom who also has a boyfriend. None of those people were there for me. People flocked to my mom in sympathy while I was pushed away when they wanted a private word with her. “I wonder where we’re you” indeed.
One day I will have a stable job and move on in my life alongside the people I know truly love that I also love in return. It’s hard, but the therapy helps and I know that any overwhelming feels about that future change are temporary and can one day step foot in my own hard earned home and feels truly at peace, and not the urge to run away.
I don’t think anyone will read this, it’s only for me. So, future Nat, when we stumble on this video again comment how far we’ve gone. Good or bad I’ll be proud ok?

For example, there's "Leaving California" which according to them sounds like SAJ.
It happens to every pop band that becomes famous and rich because then they don't have the same style because they're not in the same situation as they were when they wrote the first album. It becomes generic pop because now that they're well known they need to pander to a greater audience.
Ben Palmer I agree, unfortunately. They've said they went in this direction starting with OE mostly because it is in line with what's popular now on the radio. While that variety and change up has helped grow their fanbase over the years, Maroon 5 is one band that never needed it. That's not a bad thing, but they traded some of their originality for it. Some change is good so you don't go stale, but really, this band just didn't NEED to go in that direction at all. I think they would of been just as successful, if not more, had they continued to stay truer to their roots. HOA should of been a clue for them to try and go back to their roots, instead of veering off in a different direction. Seems like V isn't as bad as OE, with some songs going back a bit to their old style and being more of a mixed bag. But I could only imagine what would happen if they made a second SAJ-style album now. :)
1. It doesn't matter if they didn't need to go in a certain direction, if they've already done it, there is nothing we can do about that.
2. HOA may have failed at first, but that doesn't meen it was a clue to go back to their roots. Especially with smash hits like Misery and Moves Like Jagger.
3. OE wasn't bad at all and is my favorite album by them so far.
4. I admit that a second SAJ-style album would be interesting, but with the way M5 is now, it's not very likely. The closest thing we've got is "Leaving California" and a couple other songs on V that sound like SAJ.

A different style is preferred today. Moves Like Jagger probably wouldn't have been as successful if it had sounded like Songs About Jane.
6. Just let Maroon 5 go in what direction they want, they may release something in the future that surprises. It doesn't matter if you like their music in the future or not, but they'll always be Maroon 5... the true Maroon 5 that releases every album in a different style.
Dollarluigi very true and I agree! There's just so much debate going on anyway haha. Misery might of been a hit, but pretty much if it wasn't for Adam joining the voice, it wouldn't of been as successful I don't think. The re-release with MLJ included after they performed it on the show made it big, but the original release didn't go very far. I heard they were actually thinking of calling it quits after HOA, but then Adam joined the show and everything changed. I'm not fighting the direction they're going in, I think I'm one of the few that actually defend them for it lol as I like all of their stuff, new and old. They can do whatever they want, but so many people harp on them for selling out to mainstream pop, even though it's made them more popular. M5 probably has one of the most divided fanbases there is for that reason. Funky unique music is in, pop is always tops, but the indie genre is creeping up fast and I really think they could take it to the next level even more if they went back in that direction more.
