  • These videos are in no way meant to replace the purchasing of commercially produced DVDs of SCTV. Making this series available is in no way meant to break copyright law. I am hoping fans of the series will have renewed interest in SCTV and will spread the word about this Classic Canadian Comedy Legend.
I have included all 185 episodes of the Syndicated Series of SCTV. Please note that the Syndicated Series has material not available on the current crop of DVDs, and also that the DVDs have material not available in the Syndicated Series. Please note that there is also material not available in either.
This means that at this time, the complete series is not commercially available for purchase. I hope you will consider signing the online petition at www.change.org...

This is pretty accurate to the Kraft commercials of the 60s & 70s.

Oh man, The Young Weasels?!? This show was way wackier with Harold Ramis writing for it than, say, SCTV Network 90 when Dave Thomas took over from Ramis.

Earl's "You hired her" remark to Floyd after Pirini Scleroso's report seemed to be a tipoff that, besides being "SCTV News" anchor and Count Floyd of "Monster Chiller Horror Theater," Floyd was also SCTV's news and public affairs director. (Although evidently, based on how SCTV was run, he was no Ralph Renick in terms of spotting talent.)

You can see what they were trying to do… The whole point was the tone deaf elite responses of the panel.
But what Andrea’s character describes was far too horrifyingly accurate.
Society had only just begun discussing such things openly, but it was still nowhere near as exposed as it became over the decades since.
And I thought I was cringing at the Sid Dithers sketch where Catherine’s character gets slapped several times !!

If you think that's bad, there was an early sketch from the Canadian episodes where John Candy smacks around and sics his dog on Catherine O'Hara because she brought the wrong dog food. People overuse the phrase, "That would never air/be allowed on TV/fly these days", but this is a prime example of how past TV shows got away with a lot of stuff that would send the cancel culture out for blood.

I think they went for that "so terrible we shouldn't be laughing" thing. Plus the real life misery of such a real problem vs the clueless celebrities and the whole exploitation aspect of making entertainment out of real life misery. It hits hard though. They may have overplayed it, not to mention Andrea is so believable as the battered wife.
They never held back when satirizing the moral vacancy of the world around them
