Had my deepest and most profound experience with ayahuasca about 3 hours after eating a double bacon cheeseburger with fries. I had no idea about the diet etc until much later, so my first few experiences I filled no real special diet. I eventually followed it when visiting Peru, and honestly couldn’t notice any difference. Not saying you should do what I did, but figured I’d share my experience
That's really interesting. I wonder if it's more that if you didn't know then your soul still didn't want you to go through an extreme experience... I haven't been able to cut out everything because of some addictions but that's exactly one reason I'm doing the medicine to heal from addiction so yes.. also, just wanting a self purified vessel ❤
the diet is SO important! Lots of foods have adverse reactions to the medicine. For instance, at the end of my ceremony I ate some eggs with salt and it completely cut off the effects like a switch. I then proceeded to eat pineapple and got a headache that lasted for almost a whole day. There are many reasons to follow the diet and unfortunately I found out the hard way... Purging has nothing to do with what you ate, it has to do with throwing up old thought forms, toxins... What I know to be true is the cleaner the diet, the better the experience.
It partly does do with what you eat. If you eat a clean diet the less time the ayahuasca will spend on purging physical toxins. It will then be able to concentrate and laser in on the more spiritual root causes of the traumas and spiritual toxins one has accumulated. The cleaner you eat the faster you can work on the emotional & spiritual blockages.
Julie Solomon I think it is highly individualistic. I’ve found nothing that cuts me off from the spirit and only one thing my body won’t tolerate: Coffee.
Andrew Unruh I agree.. I tend to eat a pretty clean diet. Organic meats, veggies, ect. I never watched my diet too much prior to doing a ceremony and never had a problem. I go very deep and have gotten a massive amount of healing. Try to stay away from red meat and dairy the day of, that’s about it
I agree that the point is surrender. I have not partaken in an Ayahuasca ceremony yet, but am familiarizing myself *heavily* with the process......and most importantly, the purpose. You are seeking change and transformation into a more balanced being in harmony with the forces of nature and the Universe. You must go all-in and surrender your ego to something greater than the self and that includes all animalistic, low-vibrational desire. When I seek Mother Ayahuasca I will do so fully engaged and with deep respect for maximum potency. I have already introduced myself to Grandfather Mapacho and will bring him along on the journey. BTW : Mexican dream herb tea (Calea Zacatechichi) is atrocious and I have a hard time believing Ayahuasca could be more bitter! Most people can't get it down but through multiple brews I got to where I could take it down pretty quickly. But that flavor stays on your tongue for quite some time afterward. I like it, though. It adds to the experience as I believe Ayahuasca will too. As we think good taste = good and bad taste = bad but as awareness hightens we learn that a great many things are not as they seem and we often assume wrongly.....
Glad I watched your video. Going to my first Aya retreat in 10 days. Been cutting out everything and stressing about the dieta. I’m a ready to get there and experience the journey already lol
@@c.8535 it was amazing! The first ceremony nothing happened and I was disappointed it by the second one I saw and learned so much about myself and the world. The taste was not that bad to me and I ended up going back 6 months later for my second Aya retreat. I am still learning new stuff about my self and life day by day. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and the energy was unexplainable. 💗
I start my two week intensive December 15, 2019. First time. A little overweight and coming into it off bad diet but two weeks prior to start I’m doing great on my diet. I hear you purge a lot if your body is not ready.
SO much truth. I physically gag when I recall the taste - over 5 years later, also I felt that abstaining from masturbation gave me increased internal energy reserves needed to work through the ceremony and connect with the vine - and it felt like the spirits appreciated my efforts.
Interesting perspective you’ve given here insofar as cutting out the stuff which we use to distract us from our internal conflict and discomfort. Thanks man, great video
Thank you. This was soo helpful. It helped me understand the purpose of the diet more - so with more understanding it will be easier for me to surrender to it.
I don't mind the taste of Ayahuasca at all. To me it tastes like sweet potatoes. I noticed that in almost every Aya group I've been in, a lot of white people (specifically white men) incessantly complain about the taste and really exaggerating on this idea. Other non-whites I have never heard them complain about the taste. In fact, a husband (white) and wife (Japanese) were talking about the taste and the husband said it was the most foul wretched thing he ever put in his mouth, and his Japanese wife said "It just tastes like slightly burned sweet potatoes, I liked it!" I felt the same way (I'm non-white). This intolerance of the taste of the medicine (which I don't even notice at all) may have to do with an unconscious intolerance to surrendering to an indigenous culture's medicine. The taste is part of the experience and to call the taste of the sacred plant as disgusting or foul or horrible is disrespectful to the plant and mother ayahuasca and mother nature in general. From the beginning, there is a hostile relationship between such a person and this plant spirit. I think this represents the arrogance and controlling nature of such people to demean and put down the taste of a sacred spirit. The "strangled wretching of the gringo" (a shaman's words I read) has more to do with humbling them in their own narcissism. I think the taste is more of an emotional resistance by whites to non-white spirituality and ritual practice than an actual physical horrible taste.
BV the Sage This makes so much sense and rings true for me. I’m a woman of color, and i had heard nothing about how wretched it tastes. When I finally had it during my first ceremony it was so much more mild then I was scared of because it was so over hyped. I knocked it back like nothing and the shaman gave a rather approving “ESOOO!” :) However now im preparing to go for a longer ceremonies, and im having a very hard time with the dieta. Its not disgusting, but i dont like it, I keep having to tell myself “this food doesnt taste bad its just neutral”. I’m a good cook and its hard to give up my seasonings
Aryans have a natural adversity to unpleasantness. As you can see from the societies we create, (the ones POC all seem to can't get enough of) we are a people of the finer qualities of existence. I've noticed that POC, on average, enjoy living in foul environments. This can be seen by visiting areas where Europeans are a minority. So you're absolutely correct, there is a BIG difference between the races of man. And that's all right :)

its not that aya isnt a psychidelic or a drug, its that these terms in our culture are so vauge. ayahuasca is truely psychidelic, its just easier to use lsd for fun, but lsd can go deep, but not as deep as mushrooms or ayahuasca. psilocin (magic mushrooms) is 4-ho-DMT and ayahuasca is DMT with an MAOI so the dmt can reach the brain so the stomache doesnt break it down. ayahuasca is special because its damn near impossible to have fun. keep ayahuasca sacred! because the west fucked up all these other medicines like mushrooms and peyote. LSD is the odd ball but thats too long to get into
Couple of things Aya tasted ok to me, earthy i would say, surrender is the work here, you should let go and respect the medicine, my experience i didnt purge in multiple occasions, diet was 3 days before, actaully i have forgotten and had a coffee same day didnt have no issue, but follow it like dont eat pork and alcohol etc
I e done it both ways with and without being strict on diet and it didn’t make a noticeable difference at all for me personally. Granted I do not eat fast foods or many unhealthy things in general. Ive also done it with and without cutting out cannabis and no difference in my case. But it’s nice to do it to have the self discipline
Hello Colin, im taking part in my first Ayahuasca Ceremony in August, ive been told to fast beforehand, and like you advise in your video to cut out certain foods, fats, salts, dairy, sugars etc. Can i ask you, what did constitute your diet in the lead up to the ceremony, it seems easier to ask what can i eat rather than what i cant as the "cant" or "dont" list seems awfully long. Any advice is appreciated, i get migraines when i dont eat, thats probably the sugar im guessing? So what meals did you eat? Thankyou
Hi Jason! So I kept things pretty simple. Rice, lentils, poached eggs, raw vegetables (or roasted with a very small amount of olive oil), raw fruit, fruit smoothies (using sugar-free almond milk), skinless chicken breasts with salt-free seasoning. You may find this cookbook really helpful: auriannajoy.com/ceremony-recipe-book/ And just remember, if you end up eating something that's not on the diet, by accident or otherwise, don't beat yourself up about it.
