I only gatekeep at work, where Im certain the suitor will signature my scent. I remember before really getting into fragrances, I used to ask a few colleagues what they were wearing, and I made sure to never wear them at work out of gratitude.
Man, you aint weird for "gate keeping" with people you interact with personally. I remember I was wearing my fave clone CDN Milestone and someone at work really wanted to know what it was and I told them, man I must've stressed about that for about a week hoping they didnt get it and make it their signature scent! I was beating myself up wondering why I didnt just say it was Millesime Imperial so they wouldnt get it, such a damn GEEK! But damn man, it took a lot of trial and error for me to find my fave, affordable signature scent! They can do they own work! LMAO

I tell em it's the OG when it's really a clone.....like you said the middle eastern ones are to difficult to pronounce & most people don't know frag lingo because then it becomes a whole story to explain the cologne 😊

A random person on the street, all about them learning about something they think smells good. However recently my GFs roommate bought a big bottle of her signature scent, which is a prime example of why you wouldn't want to tell other people. ☠️😅
I'm not so much of a gatekeeper anymore, but I definitely used to be when I only had a handful of scents back in the day. Any advantage I could have over the other guys out there when it came to pulling the ladies, I would use... and fragrance was a big one!
I've had people ask me what i'm wearing, and I always tell them what it is. I think it would be cringe and disrespectful to tell someone the wrong fragrance or lie. I own 140 bottles and I only know about most of them because of reviews, smelling on other people, or popularity. Even if the person next to me or my best friend wore my favorite fragrance, I would enjoy it. I've worn expensive stuff and been asked, I usually let them know the one I'm wearing, that it's a little more expensive, and then let them know a more affordable one that smells similar.
I don't mind gate keeping. I hate to smell like the next man. I pride myself on being exclusive. If that scent does it enough for me to where I want to keep quiet....I'M GATE KEEPIN!!!!
