In this day and age why arn't these rolls packaged and delivered with some type of protected edges? Seems to be more of a headache doing things this way?
Yes! This is my big complaining always! I hanged my first wallpaper in 1986 and there were always factory cut the edges! This is always a lot of headache and a lot of time.
we have in the wallpaper industry for years, cutting edge installation methods are not comen in China wallpaper market. most of our product with a smooth edge.www.lancawall.com.
...because this is commercial and you're usually dealing with dozens on rolls on large unfinished commercial projects...hotels etc...not just a few rolls that sit in a closet until you're ready to do your small bedroom...
Most residential wallcoverings are factory trimmed, some of the higher end wallcoverings are hand silk screened and have a salvage edge that requires either table trimming or double cutting,54" commercial vinyl ,to my knowledge always requires double cutting the seams. As far as the edges go,as a long time wallpaper installer,I can't count the number of times I have received wallpaper that the edges where either damaged in packaging or shipping.Tip,always lay your wallpaper rolls flat, don't lean them against the wall,it can damage the edges.
Because you have to be able to remove the excess wallpaper while still wet, sounds like you need to install and remove excess in one session.... I have 5 rolls.... If I do roll 1 and 2 with that seamless cut in the middle, I can't wait until the next day to do that between roll 2 and 3 because roll 2 has already dried. Am I right? Is there a way to overcome this? I am dealing with a mural made of "canvas".
...explained within first minute...it cannot be aligned side by side and is specifically designed for a double cut seam...this is commercial vinyl not traditional residential paper...
Tip...when installing commercial vinyl do not cut your seams immediately, allow them to relax a few minutes before making you cut
Why?
Good luck ! you're gonna need it

Don't paste the edge of the stuck wallpaper as you do not want it to dry 100% before you stick the next one.

what is the point of the 5 cm overlap when you can just align them side by side?
If you align side by side, or butt join the paper, you will see the joint. This way the joint is a lot less visible
...explained within first minute...it cannot be aligned side by side and is specifically designed for a double cut seam...this is commercial vinyl not traditional residential paper...
this way you do not see the joints
