This is why Richard Ayoade is the absolute best.
He doesn't just "keep the show on the tracks," and he doesn't just "pitch" punchline opportunities and step out of the way. He keeps the ball the moving... which I guess makes his 'game' either tennis or juggling...? Either way, love the hell out of the guy.

Guernsey could use that video to weed out applicants: anyone that said, “I want a job where i get to do that!” is automatically rejected.

You mean to tell me that half of American media is just an overgrown recruitment video for the Guernsey Police?

Watching this now two years later... I'm Czech, and when the man "walking" his stuffed dog to circumvent the Covid restrictions came up, I thought "that sounds like our Covid restrictions."
And of course it is. And of course he did. 😅
I missed the story at the time, and everything about that time is a blur so I'm not sure if it did happen at the same time - but there was a point when everyone was scratching their heads when people were only allowed out of the house in th evening / at night in order to walk their dogs, but only in a very limited radius from their home, allegedly to prevent people from gathering. Which then everyone pointed out made no sense because it would actually lead to exactly that around apartment buildings...
So if this did happen at the time, I can well imagine someone basically just thinking "it can't be more absurd than it already is."

In my small village because everyone was off work and only allowed walk around no pubs nothing ...i found it the most social time ever in my life...had more social interactions with neighbours than ever in any time before or since. It was great. And of course everyone was also excited to talk about covid and argue about it and people were just standing around talking a lot the whole time at the start. It was kinda dumb. 😂 you cant trust most people to make sensible plans. Im always going to just go my own way while everyone else is argueing about how to use a compaass. 😅

@@Padraigp Sadly, I don't have such a positive experience of Covid times. Village versus town, I suppose. I had to move to a new town in the middle of 2020. It's a pretty great place to live, but that was very much not a good time to get to know your new place of residence.

wow, I'd somehow missed that Farage quote, the "I'll be Trump with the straight jacket removed". I mean why didn't you just abandon all pretense and say I'm literally going to exhume Hitler's corpse and reanimate him 24/7 Weekend At Bernies-style

Hislop, despite how he thinks of himself, is such an Establishment figure. Public school, Oxford, Church of England, BBC...and he thinks because he edits a mildly satirical magazine that he's a rebel. Like being a bit cheeky in the Prefect's Common Room about a teacher...while really being supportive of the overall system. Look at the previous editors of Private Eye, Christopher Booker and Richard Ingrams...it would be quite hard to find bigger reactionaries.

What do "Shy Tories" and "Shy Trump Voters" have in common? When you say them, they both begin with "Shite".

Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !"
Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam."
Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!"
Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..."
Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!"
Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky."
Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction."
Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?"

They should do an episode with Roisin Conaty, Richard Osman and Sara Pascoe and call it "Have I Got A Bit More Gums For You".
