Why didn't the 2 studios just share all the good sounds between the games? Then both can be good in that department instead of being bad with some sounds. Yes, it's because they wanna be different. But different isn't always better.
On top of sharing all their audio assets, they'd have to share code and implementation between the two dev teams so the audio is processed in the exact same way. Chances are that would be a massive undertaking since we are looking at 2 different games developing at 2 different times, while at the same time being based on 2 different games by 2 different teams. There's a lot of different ways you could build code within the same engine, and I'd think that it's not hard for the different workflows, pipelines, and office politics to affect the way each game handles audio at a very fundamental level. Also because the games have very opposing creative direction. Or it could literally just be incompetence/laziness/bureaucracy/poor communication/politics/logistics etc. that significant assets/code was not shared who knows?
