@@skillato9000Mickey always has ink rising off of him to signify that he has some of the blot in him. Doing more thinner actions causes more of it to rise, doing more paint actions causes less. The actual scrapped concept was Mickey's entire appearance changing to suit the play style, like having more washed out colors on a thinner run or brighter ones during paint, or even the scrapped scrapper Mickey concept where his paint melted off of his sketch. Fairly sure there's always at least an occasional blot drip rising regardless of your play style, though. It never had a chance, a pretty small team is handling remaking the entire game in unreal engine. They were never gonna be able to keep the original's art direction's integrity.
Going to be honest there's some critiques I have, I loved the original's pushing out walls and AC Unit in the climb of the first tower in the original game vs the new flip out panels. The Paintable world elements don't feel nearly as bright, though giving you a starry outline for missing objects is absolutely genius. I don't need them to be absolutely neon, but a version between the new & old colors would probably be better, as it felt those elements were like in an actual cartoon, where the objects characters would interact with would be less detailed than the environment. The "fog" effect is kind of distracting and washes out a lot of color, especially next to a Wii game feels saddening. The actual modelling, detail, redesigned areas, THE FIRE BRIDGE IS AN ACTUAL BRIDGE, etc. No comment absolutely beautifully well done. It's just the color contrast & washed out color that need work.
I like that the game might make a comeback with the remake, but theres just tiny details that makes me wish they didnt remove, sectioned painting and thinning was fun, but now its just 1 blast of the brush and it gets painted instantly, just small details like that is all, really hope that they clean up the details in the game since the game hasnt released yet, i look forward to it either way though lol

Never played the original, but by comparing here it does legitimately look much better, but as a natural progression of what's possible with new tech and experience, and not just trying to make it more 'realistic' or completely different or stubbornly similar. It's a good idea to make tweaks where they could be used, too. I hope there are more remakes that take this approach to polish and improve instead of trying to reinvent the wheel or stay stagnant (Can I get some remakes to make Sonic Adventure era games playable but maintain the charm of the style...? Please...?) I will say though that while I really like the new dragon design, it's so drastically different from the original it seems like an unnecessary overhaul that feels more like trying to make it more 'cute'. I don't know much about Asian cultures so I don't know if it's more accurate to the style they were going for -- I can accept it if so -- but somehow I doubt it, since it looks much more western and cutesy. Making it static is a weird choice and disappointing, cause I know I've always super enjoyed big beasties in my games, and just a little bit of movement goes a long way to making something feel real, even if you go with the mechanical angle. Giving it a flat back with a bridge, though, was an excellent idea and ties in a cool element with comfortable gameplay nicely.
