- This is the parade on Moscow's Red Square devoted to the 63rd anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, 9 May 2008. This parade is highly notable because it marked a return to military technologies and vehicles going past Red Square, something which had not been seen since 1990. Taking the salute is Defense Minister of the Russian Federation, Anatoly Serdyukov. Commanding the parade is Commander of the Moscow Military District, General of the Army Vladimir Bakin. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison conducted by Major General Valery Khalilov.

These uniforms were replaced by blue closed collard uniforms for officers and cheap green uniform for sergeants and soldiers in 2016.
@@loicdupont9857 A cheap uniform for sergeants and soldiers, this is the so-called everyday (office) uniform that appeared in 2013. Officers wear it everyday, and soldiers wear it on parade. Also, the Air Force and the Airborne Forces have this uniform, they have it in blue, and the Navy, they have it in black, the marines were in the parade in this uniform. In my opinion, as a casual, it may be normal, as a comfortable, zippered jacket worn over a T-shirt, but it is not suitable for a parade.
True, this form has differences from the Soviet form. The Soviet tunic has 4 buttons, and the Russian one has 3. They have different collar lapel designs. In the Soviet form, the ground forces wore boots, and the Russian ones in patent leather shoes. There are different cockades on the caps, on the Soviet form there are cockades with leaves, and on the Russian one without leaves they are simply in the form of an oval. On the collar of the Soviet army there were colored buttonholes, the Russian army does not have them.

It's hard for me to identify this veteran, but If you look closely, he has a star on his tie, this is a very special star only awarded to the Marshal of the Soviet Union, the highest military rank of the entire Red Army. However this is the small Marshal's star, which was awarded to the Marshal of the artillery, Marshal of the aviation and marshal of the armored troops since 1943. Since 1944, this small Marshal's star was awarded to the Marshal of the signal troops and marshal of the engineer troops. Since 1962, it was awarded to the admiral of the fleet. And since 1972, it has only been awarded to the General of the army.
So he definitely wasn't a marshal of the Soviet Union, but possibly Marshal of the artillery, Marshal of the aviation, or any of the other titles I listed previously. If you look closely to his right shoulder, he has two red star medals. This red star is called "Hero of the Soviet Union", another high military decoration. This medal was awarded for "Heroic feats in service to the Soviet state and society".

It's not considered politically correct in Russia to use too much that comes from Soviet days especially when you consider that a lot of Russians want to see the mausoleum demolished and Lenin buried at the Kremlin Wall.
The Russian government has to play a balancing act to try to placate everybody, and the current administration really doesn't want to be seen as too nostalgic, nor does Putin like old Soviet symbols, or we'd probably be seeing a parade commemorating the 100th anniversary of the October Revolution this year.
