    If you want your castle to look really fancy, light it up. Having lights will make everything pop even more. Especially if you have different rooms with different lighting setups.

    Good reasons to have multiple castles:
    - Multiple waygates, especially if you change your server setting for more castle hearts.
    - You can send servants out from each castle, effectively doubling, trippling, or more the resources you receive.
    We just finished act 3 and we've been decorating since act 1 because... it's fun. And it's fun when your limited on decoration options, but you slowly tackle boss by boss and get rewarded with something new. The game doesn't need to be rushed to the end so you can enjoy your castle for like 1/4 of the game instead of decorating from the beginning and enjoying the decorations for 100% of the game.

      Decorate to your hearts content. You can move all decorations with your castle, and deconstructing refunds everything.

      You can decorate along your journey but keep in mind that you'll get more potential and Access to more ressources easier if you dont have much time to spend on the game for example !

      I think it's stupid to wait. Main reason being that you're in the endgame and after that there's not much else to do and no time left to enjoy your castle since you've exhausted the game. This logic of waiting is wrong, but whatever floats your boat I guess.

      i've been decorating all the time. only problem is as you are unlocking new decoration items you have to rebuild and restructure the rooms. the rooms, size and shape of my castle was constantly shifting and changing untill i unlocked everyting :D

    i love designing castles based on aesthetics, only issue i tend to find is the limited territory that permits building in this way, often very hard to keep a symmetrical design

  • @holdmytool
    @holdmytool 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I find that it’s easy to overdue ANY aspect of castle design…lighting, style, symmetry, etc. It seems that less, often times, is more. I’ve broken many habits that lead to a boring castle. Instinctively people love to make huge rooms, throw the storage containers against the wall, slap down some carpet and Bob’s your Uncle…mistake. I started sticking containers and work stations in the middle or placed them specifically different than what I used to, to mix it up. Placing storage containers back to back and in between support pillars is a good tip. It’s a great idea to find balance between functionality and aesthetics. Practically speaking, decoration sometimes can be secondary and utilizing all your space to stick 17 forge smelters into the area for fast production is the goal…but boring. Also, sticking a wrap around porch/balcony on every floor, is boring as well. You almost have to restrain yourself on the fun stuff to give your castle balance. A tip I thought of was doing layout for a specific room, then breaking it up into sub-rooms with a specific function and theme. For example, I made a main forge room with all the main stations and goods, but made 2 smaller rooms, one with a fabricator and called it the Tech Chamber. I craft power cores, store empty batteries and charged ones and what not, but it’s a cool little room with a purpose. The other room I called the “Royal Mint” with its own dedicated fabricator and I use it only for coin making. The little cubby area is no more than 2 squares, but it has the ancient forge and weapon containers. It’s my dedicated weapon room. Then I decorated the smaller sub-rooms, with ample light but not too much. Some carpeting, desk or table and maybe a single window. Sure I could’ve made one large “warehouse” with everything pushed against the walls, but instead I mixed it up to give the castle some life instead of the same boring crap. So think of some themes to help yourself break up the boring and monotony of simplistic castle building. Also, watch other people’s TH-cam videos to get tips. Watch how they layout their rooms, level by level. Make sure your castle is functional, but aesthetically interesting too. Remember, less is more. You might be thrilled with how a room looks with the lighting, layout and theme, but if you do that to every room, unfortunately it gets boring.

  • @Gleyveon
    @Gleyveon 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I think waiting to decorate your castle is a bad idea, because once you reach the end game you might no longer have the motivation to do so, or will feel overwhelmed by all the possible things you can build. Just decorate and change as you go!

  • @calimantis
    @calimantis 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    A lot of great tips, honestly. I often have the problem of dreaming and building too big at the start, or envisioning a design/layout that doesn't work out very well in practice. Starting with something small and practical and then building upon it as I go works out surprisingly well

    My main castle has a sort of twin castle setup that breaks the "same outer walls" rule by giving a connector in the middle. One side is a chemist's castle where most of my alchemy is done, the other side is a mini Dracula castle where... everything else is. Between it, a 2-wide room with a waygate and default stone brick designs to divide the two halves without looking like just two mashed together castles. It helps that my plot looks like two plots joined together, so my tip is to allow yourself to be inspired by the plot layout to try something unconventional.

    • @distinguishedopinions

      Multiple castles allow for more servants. You don't need to have everything in each, just upgrade the castle heart and build coffins for the servants. Also, have them side by side or not to far in order to transport materials.

  • @cozzy6547
    @cozzy6547 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don’t get why pvp players make the entire castle look like garbage and claim “function”. If you’re getting raided, your castle heart is on the bottom floor…. As soon as that gets keyed, and doors and shit you placed become irrelevant. Make a right banshee corridor and invest in strong servants, honeycomb the absolute fuck out of your castle heart and build pretty rooms on the other floors😊 great video mate!

    Some time ago I tried to build a castle, inspired by Dracula's castle from the animated series Castlevania, from Netflix.
    What was the essence of the idea?
    Make a castle with a minimal building area (in theory, these are four cells, a heart and a turning staircase), which would increase on the next floors, expanding as wide as possible on the topmost ones. In addition to this, I tried to build a castle with three "towers", only one of which would touch the ground. The rest hang from the seventh floor like stalactites, ending at the second floor. The towers are connected by floating bridges.
    I chose North Gloomrot as the location because of the constant thunder and lightning that creates a cool atmosphere. It is better to use a cascade option as a site, as this allows you to make the castle as high as possible in comparison with the surrounding area. The ideal shape of the site is L-shaped, with a central tower reaching the ground and two side towers hanging.
    The main problem I encountered is, in principle, obvious - at the base of all the towers there is no usable area at all, which makes the castle three floors, despite the nominal height of seven floors.
    But it looks really cool, especially from the bat's eyes. In addition, such a lock is invisible, even if you are in the same area as it. Although the falling huge shadow hints...

    • @distinguishedopinions
      @distinguishedopinions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a pretty cool idea. I wish the game allowed you to build more floors, but I guess there's an engine limitation to it. I loved how you could build absolutely insane towers in Grounded, and it would be dope to make non-euclidean Castlevania inspired castles here too.

  • @Xadoras

    3:20 How about using other castles as Teleport options for regions with low teleport?

  • @XoRandomGuyoX
    @XoRandomGuyoX 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had a happy accident with my design, in that I added rows of basic dirt plots in the middle of my build space at ground level. By the end of my 3 story build it was an open space, only 1x2 tiles, that allowed me to leap from my rooftop garden down to the first floor of the castle.
    For room size, 2x2 or 2x3 are recommended to house larger 'advanced' production stations.

    I very much struggle with the intended build design of this game, I.E. large, sprawling, magnificent castles. I've always been one that likes small, cramped, purpose-built, lived in abodes, so this game's building feels a bit limited compared to the tools that I'm used to having. I was distraught when I found that I couldnt place things like vases on tables or that I couldnt pack things as tightly as I wanted to.
    I'm also not a very opulent kinda guy, so I built my castle on my first Brutal playthrough to be more of a homely workingman's castle, if that makes sense. I saw the Hearth wallpaper and decided to go all valheim on room design. Rooms are no larger than they need to be and even my throne room is modest by most vampire's standards. Hell, I dont even have a magnificent bedroom for my coffin. its literally shoved into a 1x2 space because I forgot to leave a room for it and I needed to fill the space after downsizing my gemcrafting room. LOL
    I didnt start really decorating mine until right before Dracula. I wanted to have everything available to me so I could play like a kid in a candy shop. There's nothing more frustrating than having my mojo ruined because I cant do an idea that I wanted to because I didnt have the proper decorations.

    "no story"
    As a loose summary:
    The story is Dracula's death woke up the vampire's we play as and we're in a vampiric civil war to take over Dracula's rule after he was 'slain' by the church of luminance.
    (hence the multiplayer pvp)
    The V bloods are mortals that were present when Dracula was killed, his death brought 7 days and nights of blood rain which corrupted the lands and the living beings in the land.
    The V bloods became "heros blessed by god" not knowing the god was Dracula and their blessing was his blood; so we as woken vampires are driven to hunt the v blood and take over the land of Vardoran and maintain sacred amulets of power. (hence the end game pvp)
    Meanwhile Dracula is being resurrected and it becomes our goal to surpass him and kill him once again.
    Good video tho

      @distinguishedopinions  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't mean like there is no story at all.
