Being a video that shows the Doepfer Wasp Filter's character off on some simple square waves. Modular signal is processed with a tiny touch of UAD EMT-140 Plate Reverb to take the edge of its dryness.

I’ve just ordered one of these blighters. My first experience with synths was waaaaay back in 1980/81, my friend had ordered a Wasp synth, which we had loads of fun with… Then, lo & behold, out of nowhere, they sent him a second one… Temendous! I spent months, usually in a stoned stupor, playing with those things, not having a clue what I was doing but I swear it set me up with my current understanding of synths to this day. It’ll arrive tomorrow and I can’t wait to dive in. Great vid man, cheers 👍

Awesome demo! Beneath the A-106-6 XP this is my favorite Doepfer filter. And I also think Doepfer is a bit underestimated somestimes. They got some really wicked sounding modules out there...at an unbeatable price. And of course you could never be more thankful to Dieter for inventing Eurorack!!!

My Special Ed. black and yellow Wasp just came in today. Bought it pretty much based on this vid. So far, so weird.
Also built my case into a cardboard box thanks to one of your other vids.

I think people just say that kind of thing about Doepfer because it's the guy who has been on the block yearsss before the general population caught on. Their designs for the most part are solid, and each module does it's job well. Power system feels lacking to me, but that goes for all Eurorack. If they had flashy panels, changed up their name in secret, more people would think they're the greatest module producing shop to have ever lived. Great review btw, this was exactly what i was looking for!

it sounds _really_ good with a mid/side decoder (BP to mid, Lp/Hp to sides). With the mix knob less than 6-4, the lowpassed signal is present in the left ear. Above 4-6, the highpassed signal is present in the right ear. Weird amazing stereo stuff happens as the knob approaches the midrange. As always with the Wasp, there's like a billion patch-specific sweetspots.
Edit: never be afraid to play with the input level settings. It feels like the most useless knob on the module, but it messes with the way the resonance behaves, making it even weirder. Yes, that's possible.
Also, the filter likes square waves with a bit of PWM, not necessarily 50%.

Looks like an awesome filter to complement the Doepfer SEM filter in my setup. And yes, Doepfer makes great modules. Loving my basic Doepfer A100 system that I picked up to learn modular synthesis. Mine came with the SEM filter and I'd love to pick up the Wasp to complement it.

No keyboard, I'm just tapping the raw output of an oscillator going into a filter. Have a google about modular synths, and play with this so you can start to understand how it all goes together: petervandernoord.nl/patchwork/

Yeah, it really is a keeper isn't it. This is one of the exceptions to the general rule, however. There's a reason most great filters cost 3 times as much as standard Doepfer stuff. Lame question: Where did you get those knobs? I've been looking for Davies look-alikes that fit 6mm but they're damn hard to find.

Thanks for the tip, I return to the knob question once every blue moon, but I never seem to get around to ordering. There's always some module I'd rather spend the cash on. Then there's the 6mm issue. I suppose the real question is where you can buy 6.4 to 6.0mm adapters en masse. The only ones I've ever found are in specialized guitar shops, and they cost a fortune.
