i got the opportunity to go fishing in Pongola a few years back, we went fishing on the Jozini river for 3 mornings and 3 afternoons, each session about 3 to 4 hours long depending on the biting action, the guys who owned the boats did the sardine run earlier that year and brought 2 100L cooler boxes full of sardines, we used the sardine fillets rapped around chicken livers held on with cotton and had about a 10 - 15 cm long steel trace with a small weight on the end just to help cast a little further, you would cast and real in slow crank style like bass fishing and literally you would get 10/10 hits, if it got down to 8/10 it was nearing lunch time and we'd call it a day, i caught 86 tigers, all between 1,5 and 3kg and 2 barbel 1,2 and 1,7m long too heavy for our scales, if you want to catch tigers go to Pongola you will not regret it.

Mullet gizzards would probably work great as well one question I have from watching these videos is are the barbel any good to eat here in the states when we catfish is pretty much just a catch and keep fishery
Many people do eat our catfish but the people who do tend to eat them are subsistence fisherman. 90% of leisure fisherman don't eat catfish. I personally have never eaten it BUT I am seriously going to do a catch and cook of one to try it 😋

Hi ITTF,
I’m writing this comment to give you some information and tips on tiger fishing for future, i live near the Zambezi and fish for them very often and I am also a competitive tiger fish angler so I hope my knowledge will help you. So I will try to cover far more effective and exciting ways to target these fish that would make your fishing experiences more enjoyable.
Bait Fishing.
In this video you were obviously bait fishing but as for the baits you used although they obviously do work,
there are far better options, tiger are mostly visual hunters so scent baits is not the best way to go,
live baitfish or cut pieces of fish work extremely well, when using cut pieces the shine from the fishes skin allows the fish to spot it.
When bait fishing it is more advisable to let the fish run with bait with your reel set on a very low drag to allow them to eat the bait 5 seconds should be a fair amount of time before striking.
Lure Fishing
Now we come in to the more exciting and very effective techniques tiger can be targeted on a verity of lures the most commonly used lures are shiny lures like spinners and spoons, but you can use hard-baits like crank baits and jerk baits as well but it is bet to change to single hooks from tables to improve hook up ratio. Hi. I am from Zimbabwe and live near Kariba dam. After fishing Tiger Fish for the past 53 years and my personal best at 22 lb ...I have found fresh chicken breast soaked in light veg oil with crushed garlic. Prick the meat with a fork to get the scent.
This technique has proved by far the best method. After each bite fit new bait.
As the bait hits the water the oil separates from the meat leaving a strong garlic scent.
Garlic is well known for attracting many types of fish around the world.

and tiger live in all water columns depending on the time of year and weather conditions, they don’t only live on the bottom.
