i have to be honest, Stella Kidd is one of my favorite characters ever. A well written female character, that isn't about emasculating men. Just a strong feminine woman that takes what she wants. A solid character that is just what she is. Love her.
She might actually be my favorite female TV character.

He is taking time off because he was close to Treat Williams and when he was killed in June this year it hit him hard because he played Taylor Kinsey’s dad on show.
He was already taking time off when that happened, so that's not it. He may have extended it because of his death but it wasn't the main reason.
