+JohnPKnuckles ooohwee! maybe, I guess I meant her voice is kind of punchy, completely undercuts the traditional feminine sound, just like modern artists often do. but your right, she has it all!
Love discovering new artists!!! Never heard of her but she is clearly one of Dinah's kids...lol...and her phrasing and voicing are VERY innovative for the 60s...love it.
Brave Indian warrior Since first I met you I can't forget you Cherokee sweetheart! Child of the prairie Your love keeps calling My heart enthralling You Cherokee! In the Summertime Of lover time gone by From my memory So tenderly inside! My brave Indian warrior Obne day I'll hold you In my arms hold you My Cherokee! Wow!!!!!!!!! This is a marvelous clip. Where and when was this recorded? I am pretty sure it was in Europe because that's where she fled in 1959 after 2 phenomenal Capital Lps to broaden her career prospects. She remained there for 40 years and was a HUGE success in France, Holland, Germany and all of Europe. Is this at the Antibes French Festival of 63'? I would love to have access to more of this show. Can you supply? If so please include email address for correspondence. Thanks for this clip. Sincerely, Exquisitesounds
The clip is absolutely Donna Hightower, not Dakota Staton. Donna was not only my friend but I am writing her biography. Donna was often compared with Dakota and also, Donna owed some very key parts of her career to Dakota, which I will detail in my biography.
@@randallriley How s your bio doin ? Postcovid ? How about writing a bio on EARL COLEMAN ? = The most neglected male jazz voc legend evvuhh 5 lps in 40 yrs, saw @ Northsea 87 did you ? PS. DAKOTA CANNOT BE OVERTAKEN BY ANYONE - lungwise ,.. maybe Della, another belter queen i.e. female shouter a la Spoon, Bradshaw, Wynonie. Glo Lynne is similarly starving a monograph,,rapidly - there s a WW3 brewin ... keep the faith. Maranatha 🇫🇮
On 1:12 one can't explain the feelings of this song phase❤❤❤
There is something magical about this version. Her voice the drum kick its all good.
My favourite version i just adore her delivery
the way she sings is s modern she spounds like a r&b artist from now days. so spunky and free . FAB
...Or maybe the way r&b artists sing is reminiscent of HER sound. That would actually make sense.

or maybe they sound like her, since this recording predates what you now refer to as r&b.

qqtweee Thank you so very much for your kind posting. Do you have any other female Jazz singers from the 50's or 60's?
She was in Europe until the 90's, mostly in Madrid, Spain, my dad was a good friend of her.
your dad knew my grand aunt?
Hello, can you tell us what show this was from? Were there other songs sung by Donna?
Does anybody know what key this is in
Amanda Catherine She's singing it in Ab
3 deslikes!!! Muito estranho! Acho q entraram no canal por engano! Kkkk
she's just the best singer. i like her more than SV (who I like a lot) or EF
Sorry, that is Staton
Can someone definitively clear this up? This sure sounds similar: th-cam.com/video/QE3YvygXfgc/w-d-xo.html
But this clip IS definitely Donna: th-cam.com/video/O230RaPy9o8/w-d-xo.html. She sang at my wedding in 2009!
