    I've wanted, for years, to start making silver jewelry but the most daunting task is the knowledge of not "over investing" from the onset. This is a true blessing. Thank you.

      My advice, go as minimum as you can - just get started and see where your interests head - your tool list will follow. 🙂
      I started out by finding a jeweler going out of business on ebay. 👍
      then I discovered I had a strong liking for lapidary, and so started slowly investing towards that. Im also very big with diy (check out my channel).
      Main thing is, just start 🙂

    Cute and talented. I'm a fan. 😜 Seriously though... only watched one video so far, but it'd be great if you could explain a bit more along the way. Like what the... pickle pot..? Is. For those of us that know nothing. I learned leatherworking from watching Chuck Dorsett with Weaver Leather Craft. Not sure if you're familiar, but his educational skill is phenomenal. Anyways... something to do, but definitely going to watch more of your videos. Would love to get into this.

    • @Jento
      @Jento 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SpiritMountainSilver The tool video was good and helpful. As was the simple silver ring... though that left me with more questions. Like... why a pickle pot? What's the point? And it got me a bit curious about the stamping and how to get that done without deforming the metal, since it seems like it would... Though, no clue. Sorry. Can only blame it on being really new to this. I always have a million questions when I start getting into something. Lol.

    • @SpiritMountainSilver
      @SpiritMountainSilver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha no worries I’m the same way! The pickle pot is where you will put your pickling acid which is used to clean the metal of fire scale and such after soldering! Stamping fan deform the metal so you must be careful when doing it and learn the right amount of pressure to use. I still have to practice stamping. It’s a hard skill to learn!

      @Jento 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi everyone, this girl should be to learm bit more about metals! She shows as mandrel and blocks calling them stainless. It`s sure possibly, but for this tools are used hardened tool steels. There are existed hardened stainless steels, but they are expensive and not necessery. Tool steel is cheaper and better. Her "stainless" steel mandrel on top is bit rusty. Her "brass" hammer is sure from steel. Believe me, I've seen a lot of bronze and steel and I can tell the difference. About this "brass" "smoothing" hammer: please never try to flattening something by hammer surface like this. It should be bit rounded without sharp edges. Ask any blacksmith; it's the almost the same job. Next: necessery for round bending are round, and flat & round(or halfround) jaws pliers.

    • @SpiritMountainSilver
      @SpiritMountainSilver  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing your insight! Always good to learn proper terminology and anyone concerned with these types of specifics should definitely take note. As for the hammers I use, they produce the results I’m going for, but there’s always different ways of doing things and finding what works for you is all part of the joy of silversmithing!
