For dogs who have had mast cell tumor removal, do you recommend giving them Benadryl for life? If so, how much?

My vet recommended benadryl and pepcid until surgery. My dog has two low grade mast tumors. Can’t I give her something holistic like the digest enzymes I already give her? And what is the benadryl going to do?

My Boxer has a mast cell tumor as well and seeing oncologist this Friday. Hers is a high grade. She weighs about 63 lbs and eats twice a day. Each meal she gets a 50mg Benedryl, high quality omega 3, vitamin 3, high dose melatonin, probiotics (one called probiotiaX for histamine) digestive enzymes, curcumin, turkey tail, 3 different TCM herbs and colostrum. One meal she gets famidodine. 4 days a week she gets fenbendazole.
All of the above is with the help of the vets we see ( one being holistic) and lots of research.
Benedryl is an anti histamine and helps keep mast cells from dividing. My regular vet said my Boxer would need to be on benedryl for life.
All of the above is not typical, but it is who I am. Do not take anything here as recommendations - consult your vet and do your own research. Every dog is different.

@@kaceeboxers3580 Yeah I am going holistic route. Concerned about the Benadryl, it’s acidic and cancer thrives in acidic bodies. Everything I’m doing seems to be working pretty well. What is famidodine and fenbendazole? I also just started vit C and b12 shots weekly along all the herbs and mushrooms mixes. Also a really good cbd for dogs. I make all her food, half raw, half steamed. She is vegetarian by her own choice but does eat boiled eggs. I also make her green smoothies for dogs. Her tumor has almost disappeared. Really hoping this is working because she’s too old for tumor removal etc.

@@veganbombshellMy dog has this currently and from my understanding the tumour can degranulate which means it sort of breaks down and releases some chemicals into the dogs blood that can cause problems. One of the issues it can cause is histamines to be released which can send the dog into anaphylaxis if it’s severe and the Benadryl or other antihistamine’s aim is to prevent this. Glad to see you found some alternative treatments are helping but might be something to consider aswell. That is how it’s been explained to me anyway :)

my 17 yr old beagle mix was just diagnosed with a mass cell cancer growth in her side and abdomen growing rapidly from golf ball size to the size of a grapefruit. We were told about the options available and the strong possibility of not being able to get all of the cancer quit honestly my finances and the cost are way more than my pocket. I need to know if it is time to euthanize her? She's coughing almost all the time and her suffering isn't something that she deserves she is an awesome K9 and my baby as well. Can some one please help me? It's already bad enough..
