I have to agree, there were glints of the ace combat spirit before this point but this is where it truly revealed itself.

This was supposed to be Ace Combat 7 tho since PW began development when the series and the genre as a whole appears to be dead.
And then AC7 got released.
This is from the level where Monarch unleashes his anime protagonist powers.

The buildup in the briefing was hilarious. We tried to intercept the enemy transports, so they sent guys to intercept our interception, so we sent more guys to intercept the interception of our interception, and so on.

In the Ace Combat series, the "massive dogfight" missions' soundtracks always felt like "intense battle for survival." This feels more like "Monarch's playground."
the "playground tone" of this allows the game to contranst this with crimson squadron who are clearly beyond the realm of easy targets for monarch

I don't know Comona from 4, Mayhem from zero, and Daredevil from 7 felt like play ground missions. But I do see your point because in all honesty these missions are easily my favorite and Project Wingman hit the nail on the head.
This is a playground, because there are 257 allied planes to draw fire off of you. Even crimson is trivially easy, as they will barely shoot at you.
Indeed the hardest fight in the whole game is the one where crimson shows up at the end of a mission, and you are outright told to run away. But you can stay and drive them off if you deal enough damage. Unly you will have maybe 40 missiles left, and there is a good chance you wont be at full health.
Oh, and by this point the best plane you can have is a mig29, whilst they roll up in f22s and su35s. And of course they still do their turn on the spot bullshit.

When every other mission in the game ends, the allied planes follow a specific path while Hitman squadron forms up on you.
But when Cold War ends, _every_ allied plane forms up on you. There's no verbal acknowledgement, they just unanimously agree that you are the reason this battle was won. Even Kaiser and Stardust form up behind you. Easily one of my favorite small details in the game and it made me feel like a badass.
I played the mission yesterday, and I remember when Crimson squadron turned up with reinforcements I started turning to face them, and behind me the entire Cascadian force turned with me, a grand charge with Hitman at the head against the cream of the Federation. And it was bloody glorious. Barely managed to survive the encounter with practically nothing left by the end of it. Less than 200 rounds in the gun, no missiles left, 3% health from Crimsons own hits, but gunning two of theirs down with the gun in the dogfight was euphoric.

So I was about to go to bed right before this mission, and then the briefing said that it would be "the biggest furball in history." I've played enough AC games to know that this usually means both one of the funnest missions and one of the best soundtracks. "Ah well, bed can wait one more mission."
Project Wingman delivered in both respects. What a great soundtrack! What a great mission!
I had the horrible luck of being interrupted about 5 times on my first time through this, for about an hour.

@@AVerySexuallyDeviantOrange The first thing I did when I got my Reverb G2 was to load up that mission and play it again. I was severely disoriented several times, kinda felt like I was going to die, and almost fell out of my chair at least once. 11/10

As a wise man once said, “this mission IS Project Wingman”, and a mission this good can’t be complete without great music! I don’t think that they could have picked anyone more qualified to make music for this gem of a game.
This, this just made me speechless. I just played this mission, and I had to come to say this.
When I first started this mission and saw the missiles trails literally filling the sky, I went insane. And then this theme kicked in.
This soundtrack is just so beautiful. It's modern quick beats in combination with the classical orchestra resemble that of a Ace combat masterpiece, and at the same time and its intensity and tension progression from the beginning into its climax reminds me that of a Touhou theme. And this main motif of Project Wingman being arranged and blended in to this fast pace as well as more modern instruments adding to this excitement. Well, I did compare it to AC, but I'd argue this theme itself is in a position to rival even the greatest AC themes on itself.
The combination of the mission and this theme was just absolutely fantastic. And I have to thank you for making this soundtrack. While the mission was amazing, it wouldn't have been what it is without this. Such a beauty.

Hey man, how good is Warthunder compared with Ace Combat and Project Wingman? Always wanted to give it a try but the 'F2P' model kinda turns me off =/
@@gabrieloceano Its unmatched when it comes to how many historical vehicles it has. It is also unmatched in how bad the grind is. If you decide to play you will be grinding a lot as there are a lot of vehicles. As for how fun the game is... Very fun if you're into realistic damage models. There isn't anything like it. Shells, bullets, and bombs are all coded to interact with armor in a realistic fashion. To destroy any vehicle you will need to either kill the crew or destroy vital components. I find this really satisfying and this is what keeps me playing to this day. As for the f2p grind. The game is actually rather fair when compared to other games but don't get me wrong there is always a steady influx of competitive premium tanks/planes added to the game which allow you to skip the grind and play at top tier. In my honest opinion the best way to play warthunder is to buy a mid tier premium on a sale to grind silver lions with. This would cost you around $30-$40 and would last you forever. I did this and the grind is very doable especially with your daily boosters on. The game is definitely not perfect but its free so I'd say give it a try. There is no loss if you don't enjoy it.

Project Wingman may be the illegitimate brother to the Ace Combat series, but this song has earned a spot at the table with "Liberation of Gracemaria", "Comona Base", "Dare Devil", "Mayhem", all the greats of the *big* air battles
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon had a whole-ass mission be a Gundam reference and it didn't go as anime as this.

The BGM is called White Devil (a nickname for the original Gundam), the base you're protecting is Belyi Base (White Base in Russian, the name of the carrier the Gundam spent most of its time with) and I'm given to believe the way the mission unfolds matches a few story beats for a Gundam episode.

Man, the Project Wingman soundtrack was epic, but this and Kings are absolutely stand out. Polar opposites, but they both pin you down and shove emotion down your throat. One the manic excitement of an unstoppable hero coming to save the day and the other the dread of facing an equal and opposite force tinged with the determination to win at all costs. Holy shit, absolutely amazing work.
Now if you'll excuse me I need to go replay Cold War on Mercenary.

It is physically impossible to play this mission without a huge grin on your face.
Finally found this track after playing the level it's in. It's perfect. This mission is basically the Round Table missions from Ace Combat Zero, and that is perfect. And this music had me turning up the volume to get things as intense as possible.

Mowing the lawn has never felt more badass
I was loving this mission. But when Crimson came in. It. Just. Made. Everything. So much BETTER! The constant tension as I struggle in my F-14 in a turn battle against their Su-37's, dodging missiles, popping flares, all the while having this banger of a soundtrack blasting in the background. This is one of the most thrilling missions in gaming I've ever played.
I was only on medium and by the time I finished the mission I was fully out of missiles, and out of 2400 rounds in the cannon I had 74. It ended just in the nick of time because I don't think I had any chance after that
for me that would be PREZ
"THE Mission" as I called it, was everything that I ever wanted.

I haven't smiled playing a mission from any game in YEARS, yet when the little synth came on at the beginning I couldn't help but beam. Bravo on helping to breathe life into one of the best games of the decade, and for giving such a memorable tune to an amazing battle.

I'm gonna say it, this is PW's Lighthouse. same kind of mission, same kind of atmosphere, you, the enemies, and the game mechanics. no airships, no crazy mechanics or superweapons. just you and a massive furball only possible in the game. fuck I love these levels.

Lighthouse FUCKING SUCKED. Idk if I just got old but the 'glimmer' that makes me howl and want to beat it faster on higher difficulties with more kills like I did ACES, Mayhem, Shattered Skies, or the end fight of Weapons of Mass Destruction, on was absolutely not there.

I used to be really into Starbound when i was younger. The theme of my favorite race is “I Was The Sun Before It Was Cool.”
Hearing this for the first time 2 years ago sent me flying into nostalgia just from the guitar riff alone. The way the song makes you feel like a bombastic cowboy in the sky, the same emotion i got when listening to the NovaKid theme.
Thanks mate for making an amazing song, and bringing back some energy i had long lost from my childhood.
