This episode that comes straight from the ABC/GH vault!!
Take note of the clapboards at the beginning, showing tape & air dates, and the on screen time counter... The unedited episode doesn't have fades between scenes and there are blackouts in the spaces where commercials will appear (I deleted the long spaces to post on YT). VERY COOL stuff! The picture is CRYSTAL clear!
This episode takes place shortly after the lifting of the Lassa Fever quarantine. Lesley knows that Rick spent the night with Monica. Jeff has just returned from his trip to Hawaii where his sister Terry confirmed Audrey's confession that Steve Hardy is his father. Laura is being set up, once again - by Bobbie & Luke..
Part 1
Rick and Lesley are sleeping in separate bedrooms. Lesley reflects on her decision. Rick feels strange asking permission to enter his own bedroom. Lee calls to say that Laura's 6 month probation hearing is scheduled for that afternoon. Laura is afraid that the incident at the Nightlife Café will sway Judge Stallman's decision. Bobbie is almost giddy when she tells Luke that today is the day when all of their scheming against Laura finally pays off. She's convinced that the judge will send Laura off to reform school, clearing the way for her to latch on to Scotty. Jeff is keeping something from Heather. Heather is keeping something from Jeff. Anne Logan calls Jeff to tell him that Audrey has left the house. Diana continues to be tormented by her heavy breather. Scotty has a calming effect on Laura. Rick & Lesley talk about trust, and the difference between self-control and attraction.
This is the era when I started watching General Hospital. I was 10 years old It really made me want to be a doctor when I grew up. As I got older, I realized doctors didn’t just stand around and chitchat at the front desk. So I became an interior designer instead😂

Everything was so amazingly put together on the show, back then ,when I was a child ,yes it was in play form in part, almost like Masterpiece theatre , the training with the vast majority of the actors, impeccable,
what's good about today, is that the show has more diversity, showing all Americans,
but when it comes to storyline, staging of scenes, directing and producer Gloria Monty,
back then crushes today ,in just about every way, so superior.
The Luke and Laura clips from 1980 when they were on the run is the best of GH. No one could stop watching. And truth be told those 2 did have great chemistry. Everyone was watching that show back then! College students would race home from classes to watch in the dorm. The show was HOT and was pummeling other soaps in the ratings. leading to some cancellations. They just couldn't compete with GH at that time.
Debbie Smith it lasted about 8-9 years.. GH dominated the 80‘s before YR took over.. Everyone praised Days but Days was NEVER a rating hit like GH even with super couples and stuff..
I don't know. No one tore me away from All My Children. Watched it from 1972 until dumb ABC cancelled it.
Agreed, the Luke & Laura story was the best any soap produced & was a great story n general. It was the only storyline that interested me & still does. 👍💜
@@kathyflorcruz552 It did not compete with GH and n the same time slot and they both ran on the same network ABC. Yes AMC was very good in the same time frame of year's.
Luke raped Laura and both actors have distanced themselves from that storyline.
You notice that it's Laura and SCOTTY on the 60th Anniversary People Magazine cover-not Laura and Luke.
It was a shameful storyline and it was never meant to work out that way. The 'Luke' character was only supposed to last for a year until Gloria Monty decided to turn a rape into a love story.
UGH.
This was the best era of GH, in large part because of the storylines penned by Douglas Marland: the Luke/Laura/Scotty/Bobbie and Alan/Monica/Rick/Lesley quadrangles, and the Heather/Diana rivalry for PJ. Bobbie was arguably the most hated character in soapdom in 78-79 because she plotted to break up Laura and Scotty.
DM on Another World staff maybe Texas too was amazing.
I loved when Douglass Marland wrote for As The World Turns in the 1980s. It was must see TV then. So many great actresses were on it. Among them Julienne Moore and Marissa Tomei. Meg Ryan too. She left in '83 or there abouts.
Yes todays story's not great why many actors leaving it's because story's go nowhere how they get voted best writing team don't get it I've been watching for over 30 yrs
I didn’t know Marland wrote for GH, no wonder it was so good during this era.
Can I just say how much I loved the sets in this era? Top notch. The Webber house...Scotty's cabin with the wooden beams. It all helped to make it seem so real.

Tony Geary and Jacklyn Zeman have always had such wonderful chemistry this episode is a perfect example of it!

@Cecilly Anne No. She is Steven Lars' mother, Liz's older brother. Sarah and Liz's mom was never shown on screen. Jeff married her after he left Port Charles.

Lol he looks like a cross between John Denver & Mister Rodgers 🤣 😂 Love GH reminds me of when I'd come home from school and watch it with my Mom from like 8 or 9 yrs old (Frisco/Felicia era) for many years. In the late 90s I stopped watching due to college, work, etc..but I wish I could watch all episodes from 1 until today..not just tidbits. It'd be a fortune if they could get it all on DVD I think, ❤

I love seeing a young Genie Francis/Laura. I have always been a big fan. Glad she is back at GH but the show is just not the same. miss classic GH. it was the best !

The actor who played Bryan has passed but it would be nice if GH found a way to Claudia back.

I forgot how much Bobbie hated Laura. I guess it was because Bobbie loved Scotty and he loved Laura. I saw this show maybe a few days a week back then.

This is one of the only channels that has decent(even good) video quality of old GH. Being raised born in 93 I guess I'm spoiled when it comes to video quality. I wish you had more, especially more episodes with Laura.

This nearly 17yo Genie Francis was a better actress than many actresses 2 or 3 times her age. The 44yo, fast-paced scene in the Webber home with the lawyer was better than GH has had in a long time.
Laura's resemblance to Lesley is remarkable. It's nice seeing the 70s decor. My best friend had a bedroom that looks like Lesleys. Wallpaper, lime green, even the white furniture. She had a sunken tile tub too. Only 70s decor I liked! I hated avocado green, harvest gold, and paneling! Yuk..
She never resembled Denise Alexander

This is awesome seeing old episodes of general hospital like this! I had just turned 2 yrs old 3 days before this episode aired. Its so interesting to see all this and how great the storylines on here were versus what is happening now which isn't all that great unfortunately.

Sure you're right! Storylines now are a bunch of nonsense. Nothing close to these old clips. They were more interesting. Now it's a bunch of Sonny and Jason.

Thanks for posting the whole episode! This is the first Heather I remember. Robin was THE Heather but I do remember back then I was sad they replaced this one & it took a while for me to warm up to Robin. I sure did though during the whole Diana Taylor murder thing. So good re-living the good old days :) I can't wait to see what treasure you find next!! I have tried all of my resources and they have the same stuff that is out here already.

The show was sooooooooooo good back then. It is shame that Robin Mattson did not play Heather back then. MOB was such a bad actress. Susan Pratt got much better. The stories are top notch though thanks to Doug Marlnad. Thank you for posting!

Her name is Maggie. She took care of PJ in the past, and again when Heather had her misscarriage.
Two of myr favorites themes in this. Top of show, Lesley's gorgeous, sad theme while she lies in bed flashing back to problems with Rick. Next, heather goes to phone diana, the haunting music with the kids theme "London bridge" dropped in. Haven't herd them in years, used to be played all the time, they dropped Lesley's theme I. Early 80 or so, and never used heathers theme with robin, though I think it certainly would have fit her machinations too. This is when the show was still so damned tig
