On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.

So you finally convinced me to download DCS. I purchased the F/A-18C and the A-10C at the same time due to being 50% off. I tried entering your code, but it wouldn’t take it. I’m guessing because I had 2 planes in the cart. So I don’t know if that’s something you want to mention to folks. Can’t wait to try some of these missions.

If you're going to request something ridiculous, at least make it interesting. The Wright flyer was unarmed and could barely turn. Suggest something like an Eindecker, Spad or DR 1...

I think DCS would absolutely swell in popularity if there were large missions or campaigns or something. Air and ground units. Realistic scenarios. Tens or hundreds of players.
I second this. Time sensitive and where the enemy is right on top of our boys and in desperate need of some close air support.
One of the limitations of DCS is there's not much stuff going on on the ground because as soon as ground units move it melts your computer. Being able to actually influence the outcome of a ground battle would be amazing.
I dig the mission-based vids, and the A-10 stuff is probably the best of that. It makes it feel like you're a part of a larger conflict and what you're shooting at actually matters.
As far as the damage goes, it's fine. Those bodywork guys in the AF can buff that out no problem. Gives the ground crew something to do. Besides, it builds character.
I love the A-10 content because the AI of the ground stuff is always fun to me; feels like more is actually happening with all the activity on the ground. Have a good day GS and yall :)

I think the A-10 is still one of the best close air support platforms around. Comparing it with an F-15 isn't really fair, since they're meant for two totally different sorts of missions. An F-15 is great if you need to get in, hit something, and get out immediately. The A-10 is for when you need longer time on target to take out multiple enemies in a single sortie.

From what I've read over the years the ground-pounders say the A-10 is "it" when it comes to CAS. Hopefully it's around for a good, long, while.

There's a good argument that the Close Air Support mission is kind of over for the A-10. Old Cold War SAM platforms are one thing, but against modern stuff, the A-10 is kind of a sitting duck. Especially if it has to contend with enemy air cover. Then again, it carries a LOT of ordnance. As a bomb truck, it's a pretty serious piece of gear. The US Navy had similar capabilities in the A6E Intruder and I'd love to see that comes to DCS. Even better if they did the full re-engine and new avionics the A6F was supposed to get. The biggest issue is the lack of stealth, but the second you try to use the F-35 as a bomber, it can't carry nearly enough in its internal bays to justify its use and you have to mount things on its external hardpoints. Once that happens, the stealth factor drops off considerably and you're just flying a very expensive plane without a lot of cover to do what the Hornet and the Warthog can do (and what the Intruder and the Bombcat used to do_
That gun run on the tank tho... You might not have killed him yourself, but you definitely fucked him up a bit, spooked him out of defilade, and gave the friendlies a fighting chance!

I think the A-10 has the kind of loiter capabilities (and toughness)----ideal for close air support----that other platforms don't really have.
The close air support missions are my favorite. Would love to see f35, F15E and any sukhoi but especially the su30 and su35 doing higher risk close air support and SEAD.
In practical terms, retiring the A-10 will be worse than the Tomcat! It is SO good at what it does. Its a phaff using the F-35 for the same job.

IR signature of the a-10 is extremely low due to just using turbofans right? Especially from head on aspect it probably has a big advantage firing fox 2s

Early BMPs had a 73mm and a sagger atgm... modern ones use a 30mm autocannon
They do a damn good job at making the vehicles, it all looks very realistic almost like you are actually inside the plane............. BIG ups to the people that put in all the work for these models.
I'm willing to wager that: If you had kept your confidence in the gun run and stayed on target, you could've killed both of those BMP's without taking a hit. GG anyway man, I LOOVE the A-10 videos!
The debate with Congress wanting to get rid of the A10 warthog is also from the AF that it is designated to. The solution would simply be is to give it to the marines that is attached to US Navy. Then they can put it on their jump ships. It would take little modification to make that happen then it would not be a specifically a road warrior which we Navy pilots the Air Force road warriors can't take off without a runway. 90 to 96 on Big John flying helos from the sea king to the Seahawk got hurt on a training mission after coming back from Kuwait. Talk about a ponder. The A10 would be perfect for the Marines and the pilots. Also with navy assets and able to continue to support the grunts on the ground. Absolutely. IIRC, EVERY time the USAF starts talking about retiring the A-10, the US Army or Marines say "we'll take them", then the USAF decides to keep them.

Even in nearly perfect A10 engagement conditions it still struggles more than an f15e would in ground support. Honestly a modernized f111 with smart munitions would be a far more capable platform.
Would love an Air2Ground comparison: A-10 vs the new F-15E. The low speed is also what frustrates me about flying the a-10

Was watching and talking to the screen when you were doing that last run, "No, use a maverick!" lol Wikipedia says BMP machine guns are 7.62mm. The main gun is a 73mm on a BMP-1, BMP-2 and BMP-3 use 30 MM autocannons.
1 if fine for a gun pass, and you were going home anyways, else use a maverick. The guys on the ground always need air support. Sudden lead poisoning on a plane is usually not as fatal, compared to a body.
The A10 is absolutely obsolete.
And believe me, I’m it’s biggest fan….But.
Against third world problems you might get away with flying them.

But Sam systems are just too good.
Never mind every swinging dick on the battlefield might have a shoulder fired AI (or whatever) missile.
Close air support and Armor just can’t survive that.

That is exactly why the A-10 will never be obsolete. Loiter time, firepower, and the ability to withstand punishment that would put other planes in the dirt. As long as there is a ground war, there will be the A-10.
In a COIN or other low-intensity mission A-10s still work fine. However, not so much on a modern battlefield. Neither Russia nor Ukraine are doing any effective CAS these days because ground attack aircraft near the FEBA simply die too fast to SAMs, AAA, and CAP. The Russians lost at least 29 Su-25s learning this lesson, while the Ukrainians lost 16+ Su-25s (pretty much their entire pre-war inventory). A-10s are more survivable than Su-25s, and US pilots would certainly be better--but not enough to make these sorts of CAS missions worth the exchange rate (and pilot losses), I think.
I disagree that it wouldn't survive on a modern battlefield mainly because the USAF operates differently than Russia and Ukraine: USAF doctrine is such that they would focus on achieving air superiority and knock out medium and long-range SAMs with the appropriate assets (EW planes, F-35s, etc). That would allow A-10s to operate along the frontlines in a way current UkAF can't mostly due to lacking the sheer number of aircrafts and advanced ordnance/systems the USAF (and USN) can field in a theater.
But the US would have air superiority and radar jamming etc. Probably would eliminate the sam and aaa first.

The A-10 is amazing. I once flew one of the training missions in the A-10A, something hit me, didn't feel like much but the plane was leaning over hard. Looked out of the cockpit, left wing was missing up to the gear. Still got home safely and landed.

only thing A10 probably has going for it these days is a very small niche with payload and HOW it loiters. low and slow.
tbh, you're probably better served by dumping an A10 and going with multiple of anything else. even if it costs more. that said, I am only talking about land combat... naval warfare, I got no clue.
Wow, whoa whoa, Let's not name the A-10 and F-15E in the same sentence. The A-10 is Pro at Ground support. the F-15E is a weak suggestion.
If I tried this I’d get 6 missiles shot at me before I even got close. Not because I’m bad, I’m amazing in the A-10CII and I only say that because I am. Only 2 aircraft I am actually great with the F-14B and the A-10CII I’ll easily admit I’m subpar with others and shit with the rest. But yeah I’d get taken out immediately because whenever I do similar missions to other people I always have things happen to me that never happens to them.
kills an F1, kills everythijng he sees... this thing might be outdated... LOL. Low and Slow is the whole point of close ground support. Fast movers can't get as close to the action without getting really dangerous for friendlies on the ground.

exactly my experience with A/G missions in dcs in general. These greedy gun runs always get you killed. Even more so as you had enought mavs on the pylons. But it happens to all of us lol. You just want to kill it with guns...and then you die...
If you haven't had a friendly fire incident, can you really say you completed a CAS A-10 mission?

The A10 is absolutely obsolete. It would be useless in a peer conflict with China - which is what our military should be planning for. It should be retired immediately.

My love-hate relationship with the A-10: I like the fact that its a missile truck that can loiter in the air for minutes and can receive enough punishment to do its job and go home. But, it kinda annoys me that it's essentially built around the gun and there's even a system built for it just to compensate for the gun's recoil and rotational inertia. It would've been nice if the gun can kill everything, but no it can't. In most cases, it is probably just unnecessary risk to dive down and do a gun run.
Heavy damage to that right engine but it should buff out ;)

I feel like it's cheaper to use a dedicated air to ground assault aircraft than use a multi role fighter. I just can't see how it would be cheaper to use an f15 for a10 things. The f15 will only use million dollar missiles or bombs and never use thousand dollar bullets

Had 4 A-10s flying around Miami today. I guess it is for an airshow coming up but I was a bit freaked out at first.
Warthogs can take it and shrug those 14.5’s off no problem. Made for situations like that.
