XiangQi is a chess variant, possibly closer to the proto-chess than is chaturanga. The games that Maomao's parents played were XiangQi and WeiQi. Go is WeiQi with a rule-change. The Japanese claim to have perfected the game with this rule-change; the Chinese claim that the Japanese screwed-up the game.
