I read for both pleasure and to learn. I DNF a lot but, I think there are only a handful of books that I feel like I wouldn’t ever give a second chance to. Love the discussion and hearing why you didn’t like The Exorcist. I’ve never planned to pick it up because I don’t read much horror and possession stories freak me out. 😅
I read the exorcist when it came out. I couldn't sleep for days on end. The movie was really good, but the book was amazingly scary and especially when it came out.
I read The Exorcist earlier this year, and I have the same criticisms you have. I think I liked it more than you did, though. It wasn't even close to good enough to consider ba reread, that's for sure.
I can see why someone might like it, though it definitely didn't do anything for me. I can also see how it could have been easily adapted into a screenplay and film.
I really liked Blatty's The Exorcist and The Ninth Configuration (Maybe because I am Roman Catholic), but not his other books. Chevy Chase was Fletch. Terrible movie. The books, I suppose, are better. Maybe you should watch The Exorcist movie. It's really great. If you don't like it, you would be one of the few. I watched the movie when I was 17 at night, in a theater. It really scared me. Younger people today just laugh. I guess there have been so many gross movies, that people don't scare easily of Horror movies anymore.

I'm glad you found the discussion about *The Exorcist* interesting, even if you don't want to read it. Thanks for stopping by!

Oops...especially at night with the lights off ie the exorcist.
I will definitely stop reading a book if I’m not enjoying it because there’s SO many books I want to read 🤷🏻♀️
I agree with you if you’re just reading for pleasure, you can always come back to it later.

@pleasereadyourbook It definitely works better as a movie. Your comments about the police officer made me laugh out loud, by the way. Spot on.

You're right, I should watch the movie. Thanks.
