Hi All, thanks for checking out the video and for your awesome support over the years! If there's something specific you want me to cover about the AZ-1 or questions you have about it, tell me here and I'll do my best to include that in an upcoming video. Oh and the LSx engine will not fit, already did some measuring and it was perfect except for a tiny interference around the front, back, top, bottom and side parts.
@@heikkiaho6605 he gets a ton of info wrong for one. He seems like a nice guy but I would rather watch an owner go over their vehicles as they know ALL of the ins and outs. It's difficult watching one of his reviews and cringing at information he gets wrong. He does more good then bad but still, some of his reviews are rough given how eccentric he can be.

This video makes me love my NA miata. I had an automated search on craigslist for a few years and finally found a 1.6 L NA with factory hardtop unmodified from the original owner, I told him I'd keep it as long as I could, maintain it myself, and keep it stock. The miata is likely larger, but still tiny if you drive it up and down 95, but at least they placed the steering wheel on the correct side 😅.
I get how your AZ-1 brings a smile every time you see it. My daily driver is an NB2 Miata that has been well cared for, and every time I have to go to the store, I see the car and I just light up inside. It's always fun to drive.
My friend has a AZ1 and he took out the limiter and it's goes around 130mph and turns are crazy we where going like 50 mph on a right turn at the light
Ok, you're one of my new favorites. No weird quirks and features, no fleets of cars, no Lambos, and no autotrader links. I am still amazed at your editing skills. I spend most my time on my channel editing. And you are only one state away so let me borrow your AZ-1 and I'll let you drive the Porsche.
When you mentioned how difficult it is to import Japanese cars like the Autozam I said to myself, “Too bad he doesn’t know about Duncan Imports.” Lo and behold! It really is a must-see for car enthusiasts. They’ve got Japanese hearses, tons of kei cars including utility vehicles like fire trucks and what seems like a hundred examples of the Nissan Figaro, even some right hand drive sports cars like the 300ZX or Mazda FD. And the best part is most are for sale!
"They were unlike anything I could ever imagine driving through the streets of my small hometown." Yeah. That's it. That's what I felt. And then, once, I saw an R32 GTR in my hometown. And I was brimming with joy as I took pictures.
@@TomsTurboGarage Yeah, it was right when I started getting into JDM cars besides RX7's and Supra's. I thought the R34 was always cool, but overhyped. I started getting into R32's at that time, and voila, there one was. Thanks for reading, Tom!
Due to the nature of the engine being a Suzuki, I'm sure it revs up very quickly. That being said, it is also very easy to increase the power in this motor. I would love to see some slight internal engine modifications and a new exhaust to help keep this baby road worthy. While you're at it, get a larger throttle body/bore out the intake manifold. Even a simple bump from 64 to about 100 hp would be a huge improvement for a car of this weight and size. As per the usual, great video Tom. I always look forward to seeing what's new with you!
Always have loved the AZ-1. Always reminded me of a mini Ford RS200. Saphire Cossie in the "Unobtainables". They were unobtainable to most people on this side of the pond because of sky high insurance costs, and joy riders...
You can check out the tuned versions of this car. It can produce up to 150hp from the stock motor. Doesn't sound like a lot but consider it is just 720kg...
There's a japanese video were the tuners made 200awhp from a suzuki alto works (Same engine) so.. i dont think ruin such a rare and original vehicle worth it. Those little engines are beasts and revs as high as rotarys tho.
So lucky here in New Zealand, we got just about every car on that unobtainables list. GTR, s-cargo, Be, and even your Mazda, seen them plenty and even still do today now and again

Dude I love the way you introduced yourself to the az1 . Loved how you showed the old magazines and gran turismo 2 game . I’ve been really interested in buying one . Duncan imports always seems to have a few for sale .
I notice that the biggest issue with superbike motors is their gear ratio. Very long 1st, and then close ratio box. Fine for fun toy, but would be a dog in the traffic, or going slowly. If you wanted any decent top end, you would have to gear it appropriately, but then your idle speed would be very high, and would put a lot of strain on your clutch when pulling off. I would far rather adopt a more docile engine with a better gear ratio from a dual purpose bike. There are 160hp adventure bikes with far more usable gear ratios. Tractability would be a more realistic experience with slightly sacrificed power. Your thoughts on this guys?

Does it come with a remote controller?
I'm UK based and like you I always get interested in cars I can't have (unless as a grey import) or are shunned by the majority. I have loved the Autozam for a quarter of a century, but unlike you I have not been able to buy one..... and now they are way out of my price range. Thank you for showing yours to me
Been waiting for this one! Perfection as always Tom. Loved "Story Time". Can't wait for the next episode. Between you and me I've just bought a bit of JDM exotica too....
Thank you sir and OOOH! Can't wait to see that!!
Man, I love Kei cars so much. there's a Japanese importer accross town from me, and if i ever manage to learn left hand shifting, i'd love to try and score one, preferably a nice little kei van.
looks like shortened version of NSX
Mr2
That’s such an awesome little K Car!!! It looks like baby NSX!!!
*ROTARY SWAP*
Desmond moonbear the baby rx
You know that this video just doubled the value of this car on the Japanese import market! It looks smaller than my old bug-eyed Sprite!
So CoOl
Wow i love it the older cars have so much character.
Omg that thing weighs 1000 pounds 2JZ swap it and die but could you imagine a 2JZ swapped in that thing
@@weixianng ummm the car is a mid engine and is not impossible I've seen a 400 big block Mopar in a Volkswagen and that's way heavier than a 2JZ
You mean 1300cc Hayabusa.

@boostedsil40 you know Ferrari in the 60s said the same thing but they got destroyed by the heavier GT40 with a 427 in it it's mid engine it doesn't matter how heavy it is you can still turn
that is the cleanest AZ1 I have seen stateside. Not sure how you came across such a wonderful example, but congrats!
0:42 Geez that's the Texas Giant on fire! Six Flags over Texas is right next to my house so I recognize this ride and the Titan behind it right away...The Texas Giant has always had issues but damn!
This thing is super cool, always remember these from Gran Turismo. Despite constantly going to car shows I've never actually seen one in the flesh.
Look at that highway RPM! Love your taste in cars. Unappreciated gems! There’s somebody in my neighbourhood that I see driving around in a red AZ1. I feel I’m one of the few people who see it and know what the heck I’m looking at lol
You are a true car enthusiast. So glad you get to experience enjoy one of these.
