root bridge is a centralized switch tha actas as a mediator between two switches and help in forwarding data from one switch to another switch .....an route port is a port of switches in reaching shortest path to route brdge..

i have a question : one time you say the root port is the one that has the shortest distance to the root bridge and other time you say the root port is the one with the lowest cost !! which one is it then ??

Root port is the physical port of a switch which is connected to the shortest route to reach the root bridge.
For this, switch is going to check cost, bridge I'd and upstream switch port number.
